Last night was one of those nights, couldn’t sleep.  Allergies, it’s that time of year in Houston Texas area. Woke up in the middle of the night and poked around on cycle trader and Facebook Marketplace at used bike prices for couple of hours.   I have a trail bike I want to flip I never ride, wanted to check prices.  Then did searches for other brands, MX type etc.

Lot of Green bikes for sale Houston area.  Must have been some really good rebates. Not going to say a guy could get a screaming deal, but might save few buck on a low hour KX250.

Overall prices were all over the place.  It’s almost entertaining to see a used 2023 RMZ-250 for sale for 8300 bucks.  Ya don’t want to miss that deal.  One thing I did notice, most of the KTM’s were high hour, noticed quite a few with 60 to 120 hours.  I’d say Houston area prices are higher than most parts of the country.

I didn’t see many late model Honda’s and what few I noticed were over priced.

Also noticed a lot of 450’s, all brands.  I’d venture to say a guy could get a decent deal on a RMZ-450 with low hours.  Find the right motivated seller and come out ok if that’s what a guy wanted.  Not a lot of RMZ-250 for sale.  Noticed a few like new for decent prices in Florida.  State of Florida must sell a lot of racing scooters.

Didn’t see as many 350’s as other displacements, the ones I noticed most had high hours.

Everywhere ya look lots of 250F’s with 60 ish hours for sale that say runs like new.  I guess 60 hours is about top end time and people want to flip.

The Market isn’t good for used bikes, many adds were months old, very few were marked sold.  With some of the asking prices appears some are willing to hold on to something in this day and time.   Let it gather dust before they sell.  Most bikes in my area won’t sell anything close to asking.

Would preferred to sleep but it was one of those.  I sure kept good from 5 am to 8:30 am lol.

I got lucky on my low hour 2014 YZ250F.  Dealer friend sold mine for 10 percent consignment last Nov.  He had it sold in about a month 6 wks.  I think he got 3850, I walked away with 3500 ish as I recall.  Which was probably more than I could have got on Facebook Marketplace.

Many of the adds I read had comments like for sale not on sale.  Hope those guys don’t need to see real bad…….cause I doubt will get many lookers.  I’m sure people are getting a accused of being a bottom feeder when they are making offers inline with current market pricing.

The market has definitely softened, but some haven't realized that yet.

My understanding even with high interest rates, bikes that sell, many are being financed.  I wonder how many get repoed and thes that get repoed where do they go.  I bought a like new repoed ATV early 2000 ish for really good price.  This ATV I bought didn’t go back to a Arctic Cat or Suzuki dealer.  It when to a tractor dealer out in Baytown Texas.

Reason being the tractor company used the same finance company.  Owner told me he got lot of repoed ATV’s.  He could flip them for the finance company quicker then the Suzuki dealer or whoever.  ATV dealers would mark them way up and not sell quick.

We used to get repos from a dealer auction in Atlanta.

But you have to be a licensed dealer; it's not open to the general public.

The last 10 yrs I hv allergies too. It’s the worst of anywhere here.  Too many scams of fb it scared people off. If you want to sell a bike get into a bike shop . And work a consignment deal out. The Honda 2-st bring good money yet the rest not so much.

I had a shoulder surgery and needed to move at just the right time. I sold my 2015 yz450 with about 30 hours for $5200 when I had paid about $4200 for it with 10 hours on the clock. That was late 2021.

given the current market I think I got a good deal on my 2022 yz450 in Jan. Dude was asking $6500 but I walked away paying $5800. Had about 40 hours on it.

I found another Like new 04 cr125 asking  4k obo. Super rare to find in new condition like my 04 I bought 3 yrs ago. I haven’t seen another but 1 and that sold pretty quick he had it listed low at 3,200.  I didn’t hv the money so i don’t hv it.  It’s the only bike I,m interested in riding.  So what do you think , how much should I offer.  I would like to get if for 3,200.

I look every morning at the used bike market, pretty much all facebook marketplace. 450”s seem hard to sell, most listed for a long time unless a super deal. Kawasaki blows out leftovers & new bikes so the resale is lower, they may be the best deals for someone who will race all year and then just unload bike at years end. Agree with the 50 hr rule on Yamaha's, thats when they need full rebuild, bottom and top, so most unload before the costly full rebuild. Hondas will always have good resale, due to the legendary 90”s reliability…. Professional125 has singlehandedly driven up the price of all CR125”s nationwide…Suzuki owners are still hanging on to that 1 Roczen win and listing their bikes as “special” …Not uncommon to see KTM”s with 200+ hrs listed for top $… they are just built better. Sellers in Florida still think its covid and bikes are hard to come by…

It doesn't help KTM has been blowing out 450s for close to KX450 blow out prices.

Saw a 22 RMZ 450 with low hours for 4K locally. A Beta RX 450, low hour for $5500. Deals to be had around here.

It was a interesting day, I was born 2+ week late rare back then. My mom went out of labor at the hospital after a few hrs. They where young & bored so they left & went for a drive. They watched  ship called Danial J Morrell come into port. She went back into labor & had me.The ship unloaded its cargo then went to pu the last load of the season. It broke in 1/2 in the November gale winds  , 25 ft waves . 29 men where on board only 1 survived. His name is Dennis Hale a orphan from Ohio. The only home he ever really had. Other men made it into the life raft but died. He was in there for 2 nights with 25ft + waves crashing onto him. He was rescued in Lower Mi. He has a book , it’s a Miracle he survived. That’s not the title. I met him aprox 12 yrs ago local tv said he will be at the auditorium @ Lombard jr hs.  I talked with him & told him my birth story, etc. he talked about bars & restaurants in Green Bay his crew went to.  It was the last ship made from the same iron as the Titanic.  Denis talked about the sound & watching the other 1/2 sink, cool shit.  There’s a lot of info on the web on it.  Some report the 2 1/2,s r  2.5 miles apart dome say 5 miles. 1 1/2 is 2 1/2 miles down. If your s expert diver you can check it out. Some restrictions because of the dead men in it yet.  Regulations after this ship wreck changed . Routine inspections etc.  thd Edmond Fitzgerald sank 9 yrs later tho. The ship was 600+ ft pic is wrongIMG 1616.png?VersionId=8pHf9 Vzj

You do know all Japanese make high performance outboards that last 1000s of hours right?  Yes a MX bike is ultra-high performance but a screaming outboard at 5000 rpm in a very abusive salt water environment isn’t an easy life.

this whole dump a $10K bike before 50-100 hrs is odd to me or could it just be a product of adding an $100 to the monthly payment and get a new one rather than paying for maint?  This is prob what will kill off future buyers.

While I agree with you about high hrs, the slight difference is: when your  outboard motor quits, you grab another beer & wait for the tow, when your Mx engine locks up while you are in the air……

they also make cars that will go for a couple hundred thousand miles, not keeping an mx bike that long either. what's your point?

I am not personally buying a used bike with 100 hours on it, when i have no idea what the previous owners maintenance schedule was. I can afford to buy a new bike every couple years and not add $100 to the payment plan. it's guys like you that keep their bikes forever that will probably kill off dealerships.(see what i did there?)

Dealerships themselves and the OEMs will continue killing dealerships long before you can point the finger at the consumer.
