That is beautiful.
"Competitive riders choose the fastest bike..."
Perhaps... but wtithin a class. Using this logic, one should be able to race a 450 in the 80 class. It is faster, yes?
Classes exist for a reason - to determine the fastest/most skilled rider on the same basic platform.
They can have their own class and race each other all they want. The more participants, the better.
But let's not try to eliminate classes and buyer choices in the process of creating another one.
I agree - and much too nice to get dirty.
I bet it sounds glorious. 😁
Classes you say, 450 4 strokes were allowed to race 250 2 strokes!

I agree it is beautiful, but uncompetitive against current bikes!
Wow, I'm amazed it lasted 20 minutes on a very hilly Glen Helen track with a fast rider aboard. Most C class vet racers on Vital think they can deplete a Stark battery in 12 minutes!!
That's my point - they already eliminated 2Ts (intentionally), that's why I said, "let's not try to eliminate classes and buyer choices in the process of creating another one."
We don't need a repeat.
80hp is just silly.
Never said he wouldn’t be in the running. I said maybe he could have won on a diff bike but I personally doubt it when he barely won on a Stark. Nothing false about it you can disagree but it’s my opinion not a matter of fact. Winning and being competitive are 2 different things. Please read more carefully.
When one of the existing OEMs release a competitive electric motocross bike, the AMA will allow electric to compete in existing classes, 4 strokes will be uncompetitive and be eliminated intentionally.
It’s not just a matter of faster or slower, it’s electric vs gas. He didn’t choose a CR500 or KX500 or a 450 like most dudes he chose an electric bike. The other bikes use gas. Electric makes power way differently and doesn’t need to slowly build power and run through gears, it can go from 0-100% power at the crack of the throttle. I used to race RC cars they never ran nitro cars against electric cars for the same reason.
I realize the AMA is the lapdog of the major manufacturers, but I really hope someone there has learned from that last major screw-up and doesn't let if happen again.
We don't need anything that further hinders two-wheeled offroad racing.
This is so freaking stupid. Does Formula-e run with gas-powered Formula One cars? Do the geniuses running this sport not realize that a motorcycle with vastly different power output, operational characteristics and handling might have an advantage here or there? This is even stupider than allowing 450 4-strokes with a 50% displacement advantage and entirely different power delivery and traction and torque characteristics to race against 250 two-strokes.
Go ahead and push this idiocy if you want to see the sport you love disappear in about 10 seconds as the numb nuts allowing this scratch their heads, like they did when 4-strokes came in and cranked up the cost of entry by huge margins by giving 4-strokes a huge advantage. No, I'm not against e-bikes, it's just amazing that people can't see you are mixing apples and oranges on the track.
Electric has more and constant torque, unlike a 450f who's torque changes with rpm...
4 strokes are uncompetitive with electric, just like 2 strokes are uncompetitive with 4 strokes...
If you are competitive racer why wouldn't you chose the most competitive bike?
It's unlikely they have learned anything, they will still be the manufacturers lapdogs.
If you haven't guessed from my username, I like 2 strokes, they are fun to ride, but I realize why other people prefer 4 strokes, they take less effort and skill to ride fast, electric is a continuation of that.
If 2-strokes had been given parity in terms of displacement we'd be in an entirely different world now. Go back to 2004 and see if a 250F could hang with a two-stroke 250 with equal riders. This was a distorted model that killed off an entire class of race machinery for environmental reasons. But now we're even further apart in technology with e-bikes versus gas-powered.. With this backyard racing mentality we'll all be watching Hoover vacuums circling the track at the Nationals in a few years. Sound like fun? The sport will die a quick death.
"Does Formula-e run with gas-powered Formula One cars?"
Formula-e cars do not have the power or endurance of the Formula One cars, they would be uncompetitive!
The Stark Varg is competitive against 450fs for short races, but does not have the endurance for long races.
Why wouldn't you?
Because it doesn't have an advantage when raced against like machines. I'll keep repeating it - that's the whole premise behind classes.
The main reason the buying public went all-in on thumpers is because they all thought they were going to smoke all the 2Ts with half the displacement and narrower powerbands. (There is also a tendency for most to gravitate to something that makes it easier to go fast with less skill and a 4T appeals to a lazier rider.)
There was just one small problem with that logic...
Pit Row
Professional racing will always be about advertising what the OEMs manufacture, it has nothing to do with fun!
Which is why they need their own class, which was my original point.
Yeah, we have 90 different classes based on rider age differences of 5 years or less, and meanwhile allow entirely different technologies to compete in the same class, SMH.
Don't buy "environmental reasons" as the cause. They started with the F1-style engine develpoment because a Yamaha engineer realized they could build a stronger 4T engine if allowed to use twice the displacement of 2Ts under the AMA rules with the technology available at the time. The OEMs pushed the AMA to set the rules to favor what they sold to create a self-fulfilling prophecy. It was all about money - still is.
Companies are in business to make as much money as possible and 4Ts have been a cash cow for them. When the manufacturers saw how much potential money was to be made selling expensive, precision internal engine parts compared to the "next-to-nothing" parts business they got from their 2T lines, the 2T's epitaph was written.
You sir are INCORRECT! Current bikes are uncompetitive and can not keep up with the look of that bike!
😄👍
Vital philosophy lesson 101. Stark starts making an electric motocross bike and Vital says ya right it will never compete with a 450! Then Starks start beating 450’s and now Vital says well of course this man won, he is on a stark while the other guys were on 450’s. lol.
Also, where are all the e haters saying these Starks won’t last 5 minutes with a pro on them let alone on a track with huge hills and multiple motos.
lol, stark haters out in full force. A 450 has more power than any mortal besides ET can handle, yet this guy only won because the bike is a cheater bike?? Good grief, thought there was no way it would last a moto with a fast guy on it??!
Maybe you should look at his past results then. Dude was a winner there on an ICE bike in the recent past
Additionally, they were running all the way up Mt Helen plus up the steep side of what is typically the hip jump as well as another steep hill on the REM track. Bike was pulling hard the entire 20 min and was impressive to watch. BTW there were many Starks there in multiple classes of all skill levels and I never heard an obnoxious generator charging one up.
What is an ICE bike? I’m not up on the lingo sorry mate. I’m not saying he couldn’t have won though but he definitely chose that bike because it gave him a better chance. All I said was I doubt he would have won that’s just an opinion from someone on some forum it doesn’t mean much.
ICE = Internal Combustion Engine; i.e. gasoline.
Vet classes are open classes, he's well within the rules based on their designation.
