Just saw Kay de wolfs latest clip on Instagram and he looks so good already round a supercross track. Was curious as to how he would go through the whoops and if he’d even show it. Turns out he jumped through them which got me thinking.
There really is no better time than right now for the euro guys to go over to USA with the 9 whoop rule as come race time, everyone is going 3-3-3 now. Personally I hate the rule but if it encourages more of europes best to go to America every cloud has its silver lining.
Not just Euros, there’s plenty of Americans who obviously benefit from the rule too.
However I’m sure KdW will be trying to master both whoop methods, he definitely has the skills required.
Big fan of Kay de Wolf, looks like he enjoys his time over there!
As a fan of the sport, I'd hate if they would not bring back the whoop sections from the past
9 whoops "rule" needs to go away before A1 hits.
So do flat corners before or after whoop sections.

I hope Dirt Wurx builds a 22-whoop pad at A1, just to freak everybody out.
Call it the "Reed Rule", at least 22 whoops per section
Out of curiosity, who initiated the 9-whoop rule, and what was the reason behind it, safety? I haven't heard of any pros who actually like that change
I will never understand why people think the whoops are great. I think supercross would be better and safer without them. People seem to defend whoops by saying they separate the good racers from the rest, and in the same breath will lament how races are boring when the same few guys win all the time.
I say cut out the whoops altogether; it could mean fewer injuries and closer racing.
The 9 whoop rule sucks…. None of the riders like it. Back to 15 baby and make Supercross great again!!!
Yeah, Cooper Webb for example.
Feld conducted research into what was causing the most injuries. Apparently the majority of injuries came in the last two or three whoops.
How about 6 whoops to a dragons back to six more whoops to a big bowl turn. Or to a deep sand pit turn. Or a dragons back to an immediate wall jump. Seems entertaining to me. These guys are the best of the best. Let them figure it out. They all race the same track.
If they are gonna have 9, I agree.
It’s a stupid use of a lane.
Personally, I’d have a minimum rule and it’d be a baker’s dozen.
Name a Euro champion who's come over and not won at least a regional SX title...
Tortelli but he did win an Anaheim in the 250 class, proving he was fast in SX.
Name a GP champion who’s come over and not won a SX race may be a better question to prove the myth that euros struggle with SX and whoops is a load of shit.
I’m not saying euros can’t learn whoops, it just takes a season. Rarely does someone come from mxgp and kill it through the whoops season 1.
Yeah amazing how people cling to perceptions that are outdated by a few decades…
And all the American riders nail the whoops in their first professional season…
Give it up, it’s a falsehood.

The number of whoops don’t matter as much as how they build them. Back in the day you had to skim them or it was like endurocross riding over logs to roll through them, which was way slower. Only occasionally and depending on the dirt composition would they break down to a point where they became jumpers, and that usually only happened late in the main event.
Make it 12 whoops, it won’t matter. They’ll go 3-3-3-3 or 4-4-4. The guys are going to do the fastest option with the least risk. How they build them is the issue.
Personally I’m fine with some variation throughout the season. But there should be at least 5-6 rounds with legit whoops.
Reed, Roczen…..
I know What you meant but Reed is far from being a Euro.
Sure, any highly skilled guy will figure it out quick but how can the Star amateur guys riding a full on Saturday night SX track with some of the fastest in the world not get up to speed a little quicker?
Settle down, nobody is saying MXGP guys aren’t good at SX. Just saying the 9 whoops would allow them to be right up to speed vs taking the time to learn the technique and set up to skim in a month or two. Ya can’t just send it at that level.
Ok mate, you’re right.
Alessi !
I get what you mean to, and agree to a certain degree. But I was simply answering questions that others asked, so no need to “settle down”.
P.S. the question was riders coming from MXGP, not euros, hence the Reed answer.
I feel like a broken record, but tracks should not be easier now than in 2000-2001.
The WSX track in Vancouver made for 10000x better racing than any SX track we've had in last couple years.
9 whoops SUCK. Don't even bother putting them in if that's the case.
At least go to 10 - that cuts out the easy 3-3-3 combo.
Don’t make it the same every night
Because the max is 9 now. That’s what they do every round. Mix up. 8-10-11-12.
