Best 450 I've ever owned. Like it way better than my 23 350. The KX is stable easy to ride and doesn't rip my arms off. Easy to do 20 + min motos even at 57 years old. 🏁

As a guy who's been on 350's the last decade, I think the stock mapping works great. Doesn't stall, doesn't flame-out like my 350's all did. Easy to use power. Runs just fine on whatever garbage 93 pump gas I throw in it.

I also think launch control and traction control are very beneficial for the tracks I ride. I used traction control just at my last race. Track was ripped super deep and way over watered. Total slick mess. I was sliding everywhere in practice. At the recommendation of a very fast Vet A friend, I put TC on and it definitely made the bike hook up better in slick turns and was less tiring to ride aggressively. He actually runs TC all the time, everywhere.

I have used launch control on a concrete start and it works great on eliminating wheelspin. On dirt starts, with launch control and a holeshot device, you can hold it wide open and I get better starts than not using it. This is for an skinny, slow Vet guy though.

I do agree. That's exactly how I ran my KTM 450, traction control and aggressive map everywhere but sand tracks. Worked great. For what ever reason with the map changes, TC, etc, its hard to tell the difference on this KX. I'll do a little more testing, maybe Its me being to smooth with the throttle? 😂 Yeah right.

Is it a Kawki thing for the linkage (assuming it’s this) to clank during g outs or maybe when extending back out? Not sure.

Nope.  If your chain is too lose, it might be hitting the swingarm and making you think that’s what’s happening.

Interesting. I’ve always heard it when kawis are around me and now I’m experiencing it on my own. Chain is good and linkage is tight well lubed/greased. My bike makes way more noises (mainly the normal engine noise) than my KTMs ever did. Unsettling at times.

Had the same issue on my 2020 KX 450

Discovered when I went to a 51 tooth rear sprocket the longer wheelbase from the added links in the chain would make the lower chain roller spin when the suspension was fully extended going over a jump or table top. It was annoying and a little discerning when it did so

Finally just went back to stock gear ratio with stock chain length and the issue went away., took me a couple rides to figure where the buzzing noise was coming from

Havent seen it yet on the 24.. still running stock gearing

I haven't tried changing the maps but I want to try the "Cha" map to see if it feels any different. Thought about trying a 51 rear sprocket also. It's funny, all the media complained that you "can't pull 3rd gear in the turns like a YZ" but I have no trouble pulling 3rd in just about every corner. Granted, I am lightweight (165 lbs) but I just dab the clutch if I'm going too slow and she pulls fine.

I keep saying I'm gonna try this and that but honestly, now that I am getting used to it and have the suspension kinda figured out, I end up just filling the thing up with gas and pounding laps out.

Agree 100%, I came off of a '23 350sxf too, the KX is the best track bike I've had, very comfortable and confidence inspiring. It's got 450 power but smooth and manageable which I like but I'm your typical 54 year old vet guy so I like a little more mellow power now days.

I’m curious, will the 25 air filter & cage work in the 24?

Rode another 24 last weekend and felt a ton of vibration in the bars. What gives? Rest of the bike was awesome. He had the Broc Tickle map, airbox opened up and muffler core removed. I was expecting the bike to be slow as hell and it absolutely ripped. Way more meat than my 23.

Yes.  The filter frame is the same part number.  The only difference between '24 and '25 is the filter itself.  It just has more surface area.  I have been running the Twin Air filter in my '24 to accomplish the same thing.

I’ve been running the Twin Air kit for peace of mind alone. It does, however, make filter changes a breeze.

Yeah I felt a ton of vibration for a while but I switched to glue on grips & that helped a lot. Also now I don’t notice the vibration at all so not sure if over time it gets better as it breaks in or I just got more used to it

Anyone had an issue with Acerbis plastics rubbing on the frame and denting it?

TIA

I’m wondering if the engine mounts were loose or  something like that.  Either that, or if there is something weird about the stock bars.  I swapped the bars on my ‘24 to Pro Tapers before I ever rode it, and I have never felt the vibration some people are complaining about.

I recently went to the PT Evo bars from stock after about 5 hours and I noticed a difference in less vibration. I also went to Pillow Tops and going to try them for a while. I was not a fan of the ODI Grips.

I don't have the whole kit. I just run the Twin Air filters to increase surface area so the filter doesn't get dirty as quickly.

Think might get a little buddy to the 450… anyone else thinking about getting the 2025 KX250?

I’ve had my 450 since the beginning of the year and I only have 25 hours on it, so no, unfortunately I don’t get to ride enough to justify owning two bikes. 😔

Question, has anyone else noticed a tapping sound coming from the head on the 24 kx450s? This is my first 4 stroke grasshopper, I've had 2 stroke kawi's before and other branded mx 4 strokes. I don't recall the valve train being as loud on those.

I can hear a little clicking/tapping coming from somewhere, not sure where exactly but it's done it since new. All of my KTM's make noise too but it's different than the KX. It kind of bugged me at first now I just ignore it.

Lol it's done it since new and I've got about 15hrs on it now. I guess ill learn to ignore it, gonna be hard to ever since I owned an 06 crf250, which had the habit of eating it's valves. Sometimes in my dreams, I can still hear their screams of repetitive torture lol.

Finger-follower valve train.  They’ve been noisy like that since they introduced finger-followers.  Nothing to worry about.  I sold my last one with 100 hours on it and never had to adjust the valves (I checked them every 20 hours).  A quick Google search found this article on the subject.

Thanks for the link. It's a pretty informative article. I didn't think that the valve train on these bikes changed that much since the shim under the bucket style was around, clearly I was mistaken lol.

I thought I came down with a leaky seal(either countershaft or shifter) and immediately thought of this thread. I had moisture on the slider and some buildup of a moist dirt: when I got home I double checked and from what I could actually see the seals both appeared clean and oil was still full. Hard to believe it was chain lube creating that much of a mess but we shall see.

I thought the same thing. Ended up being countershaft seal for me; the oil it leaks is a trace amount compared to the total volume, so you likely won’t notice it when you change your oil. Easy fix to replace the seal if that ends up being your issue.

Do you or anyone else for that matter, happen to know which seal is the counter shaft seal? Both 92049c and 92049a  show an aftermarket all balls kit for counter shaft but the part numbers different for oem and from what I can tell only one counter shaft seal on actual bike so I’m confused. I keep trying to post a picture and it won’t let me. I don’t think the link will work unless you have a rmatv account.

You need the seal, the o ring & the steel collar tbh.

I’d just order a tusk or moose countershaft seal kit. Seems Kawi seals are made at k mart.

Only need to use 1 of the o rings**
