Great job. I loved those factory bikes.

Sounds like they had some bad test riders. I guess the factory team still ran Showa suspension?

Thanks Tony. I got super lucky when I found it on the Dallas Craigslist a few years ago. Based on wear, I figure it has less than 20 hours on it from new.

With the modern Twin Chamber forks and a good shock re-valve, it's a great bike by today's standards.

IIRC, the 95 CR250 had about 4 recalls on it. One for fork lugs that were prone to cracking, another for a casting flaw in the water passages under the cylinder, another I think for defective cranks(?), and I can't remember the last one.

I use mine for off road. Showa B kit twin chambers, NOS Ohlins shock, Eric Gorr 265 job with Mo Betta porting, air striker carb, VForce, PC exhaust. doesn't give much away to the new bikes off road. I ride it more than my 12 KTM. This bike flat out turns about anything new.

I've got a '94 CR250 in my garage waiting on a restore (it was actually the ACTUAL bike I won my first big bike moto on-Yes, I jumped from 80's straight to a 250)...how does the 95 compare to the 94? (anyone know?)

The -94 and 95 are very similar in performance. The bikes are nearly identical accept for the switch to KYB's on the '95. Both are rocket fast with grim suspension, but are great bikes with a little work.

i loved my 92. of the 92-96 i would assume the 96 would be the one to get? i was thinking about picking one up.

The 92-96 are all excellent bikes. I would tell anyone looking for one to get the nicest one they can find and not worry about the year. The upside to the 95-96 bikes is they got reinforced frames that didn't stretch as much with heavy use.

Loved those bikes. I had a 96. It was my first 250 after coming off 125s. I think it was a out a year old when I got it. I was 17. Rode it strictly in the woods up in north ga. Lots of rock, roots and elevation changes. Bike worked great. Bark busters and a few clicker changes and I was good to go. If only it was that simple now Dizzy

Pulp show had commentary on older 95-98 races. The guest was a Honda test rider. The race Budds creek , he said they had a rear linkage that soaked up all the square hole & worked great.  But it left tire marks on the rear fender. So it was scrapped.  Honda,s durability testing yrs ago was intense.  Probably why there great bikes yet.

Pretty sure McGrath used his ‘93 throughout his career with current hrc graphics each year.

This was my first ever 250 and you are correct on the first 3.

I only remember 3 recalls on mine, the heat treatment in the forks, the casting flaw and the crank.  My crank was found to have had a large crack that had formed on one of the flywheels at the crank pin.

Dave Arnold built McGrath's frames to '93 geometry, but it used tubes with different thicknesses...

McGrath is still Super fast on a 125. Glen Helen vet worlds that’s a true stock bore 125 pc engine sounds sick. He lead Brown at the start.  Mammoth has a good piece of him riding the 125.  I think he’s the only vet rider that has his style from yrs ago.  I think he’s smoother and uses better lines now . Than in 91 at Millville the top 18 just sprinted , hammered , using bad lines to get passes done and fought not to get passed.

We have a few 96's and absolutely love them. Mine has a EG 265 Mo Betta cylinder and head  that runs very good. Akit forks with a revalved shock make it a joy to ride. Still competitive with other 250's available today.

Nothing will ever compare to the 90s graphics, it's a shame OEMs don't go this route anymore. 94 KX, 95 CR, 95 RM, 95 YZ, 95 KTM
