Isn't Jett's current contact through the end of 2025 with Honda? Why would they re-sign this far ahead of that?
We have no clue what's actually going on here, but signing a new deal ahead of a contract deadline is fairly common in sports especially with star athletes. The employer can add a few more years and employee feels like they're getting taken care of if they get a pay bump when they technically weren't supposed to.
Anyone that downvoted this didn’t see those sick moves.
Honda is maybe finally going to try and keep a star rider? They lost MC,RC,JS7(didn't get signed),ET,KR,CS.....

Sexton had signed with KTM long before the end of his Honda contract. Or had agreed to sign. It felt like a year or a little more before. Similar to the amount of time that Jett has left.
Lots of stuff is made/designed a year or more in advance. Gear and stuff that is quicker to make is being designed right now for 26 and 27 . Honda has most likely been working on the next generation Honda for a year or longer. They have been racing the 25 for a while now in MXGP. Look at Gasgas they have a Prado edition 2025 model and he will be on a Kawasaki. Makes sense to line stuff up as far ahead as possible with somebody so marketable .
They only lost MC because of the bike they made. had that 97 not been what it was , the other reasons he left could have been negotiated away. Look how well it worked out with Yamaha trying to keep James Stewart around on a bike he clearly disliked. The bike got a reputation that kept them from being able to sign guys for a while. Not that the 97 Honda was much better for Hondas rep. But imagine if they had MC riding it and showing everybody how much he hated it every week? How much worse could it have been thought of.
I don't look at it as them letting somebody go, if the rider wanted to go. RC yeah he wanted to stay and finish is career , Tomac wanted to go from what I heard at the time, Kenny You could argue they let go or that it was his discission since he wanted to do the WSX stuff knowing that was a problem. So he's not as cut and dry as others. Sexton wanted to leave too, so badly that he agreed to sign what felt like a year or more before his Honda deal ran out.
If a rider is unhappy with a bike it makes no sense to try and keep them around. An unhappy rider is not often the same rider they are when they are happy. With the way Jett and Hunter are riding , I would have to think they are happy there. So it makes sense to try and keep them. I'm sure Yamaha is saving money for when Deegan gets on a 450 and they have Tomac ,Webb and Cooper. Kawasaki has Prado. KTM is not really in the best place to hire a big name in addition to Sexton and after seeing how sexton has not been happy there, why would Jett want to go there too?. Suzuki doesn't seem to want to commit to racing at that level right now , they have Kenny . And I feel like a lot of the effort is from the team and not Suzuki, I've heard they have been using a lot of leftover JGR stuff .
I have been under the impression that nobody has been paid more than RC , not before, not since.
Maybe JS7 was fairly close ( just speculating) . Of course, DV12 was likely paid within a couple hundred of Bubba also !
I had lunch with Rossi and about 15 other Parts Unlimited personnel as part of an AGV contest back in 06 at Laguna Seca. Thanks JH! I asked Rossi if he had a favorite AMA or FIM Motocrosser. He said, "Yes, Ricky Carmichael. Because Ricky left Honda for the same reason I left Honda. Honda told us that the bike wins the championship not the rider. So every time I win on Yamaha and Ricky wins on Suzuki, its like us telling Honda to go to hell..."
Just went from 6 to midnight thinking about this contract.
I believe this is true especially in real dollars or corrected dollars (corrected for inflation/monetary devaluation etc.)
The parent company, Honda-Japan, will have to decide just how much they’re willing to spend in this current economy…global economy, at that. Things have slowed down and that has a definite financial impact that can affect these decisions.
Base Pay, Bonuses, Commitments to his brother…etc. …will all play into this. That’s A LOT of Marketing Money. I can see Honda pulling it together if they’re looking to capitalize on their strengths while other brands are struggling.
As others have said, they’ve done it recently with KR.
I would highly doubt Kenny was getting 5 mil a year from Honda.
That many championships, at his age, and already dominating everyone else in the field... gotta be an insane number.
HRC should be paying MXA or Keefer that kind of cash. They likely sell way more bikes than anyone racing any given weekend
Just like KTM shoulda paid Dungey's salary to Kailub Russell.
HRC. management pissed off MC. as well. Re. control over his image.
I don't know how much Jett will be earning, but if Herlings is anything to go by then the big bucks are in real estate.
Ain’t that the truth.
Pit Row
...hopefully Jett saves his $$ and stops buying pricey cars and lizards.
And he doesn't get married without a prenup...
You act like he makes $200k a year and is blowing it on high end vehicles. His rolls is a tax write off, if it’s even his. I’m sure he’s invested a lot of his money. With all his wins, he probably hasn’t even had to touch his championship/salary money yet.
Its only money, he'll make more, and more, and more....
Pretty sure they are smart about it and only use a certain percentage on whatever they want to buy. There is no way they spend their money carelessly, specially not with someone like Dazzy behind them. I think Jett said that he only buys cars from his championship bonuses.
Also isn't his GF in the music industry? I doubt he has to worry about money with her. 😂
Don't worry, at some point Honda will do him down, just like they did to MC and RC. May be a few years, but you can stamp it. That is if he stays interested long enough
They will pay him Aussie dollars they are cheaper.
Thinking differently here, how about Ricky Brabec and his HRC contract?
Rally racing and Dakar are huge outside the USA.
Add in Monster $ and I would hope Ricky is pulling in a strong 7 figures - he deserves it.
On a winning year...I could see 7 figures being in there...
They have been payhing them...lol
RACER X, MXA, Dirt Rider for the last 25 Years...
Unfortunately that's not how it works
eh, not to be a downer but in this sport that could end in an instant
Nobody told anything about moto brands. He could change helmet deal to PRIME ENERGY or Carlton Zero for example or clothing deal to FOX/Shift or Leatt. That is what Jett has what only McGrath also had, an image outside the sport. He could become the face of mans facial products with a line as: motocross is though enough for my face, so I use the best to get it back in shape. 🤣
