For just last night it should be an easy calculation, for all 3 races plus the championship points bonus might take a few minutes for someone to calculate.

But for Pierce Brown, for example, he made $50K for winning the overall and $150K for finishing 3rd in the SMX final points. Probably the biggest payday ever for him and he’s worked through a lot of adversity to get it!!!

The above payouts were for 2023. I guess it was the same this year.

I'm sure some outlet will make a comprehensive list at some point but if you wanna know for any individual, you can add up the purses + championship bonus to see what they got. Granted, these are paid to the teams and then more than likely given in full to the rider in most scenarios but I think I heard/read at some point that some of the smaller teams were keeping a portion of the purses to help fund the additional rounds.

I wonder what they did with the LCQ payouts since everyone in the 250 LCQ qualified for the main event? Seems like getting 3rd in the LCQ would be better than winning it or getting 2nd in that scenario unless the 1-2 positions for gate pick is worth $1,900 to ya'!

Are you sure that the SMX purse is paid to the teams?  The WSX purse scheme was like that, but they regulated the number of teams and it was/is structured more like a team sport with the minimum rider requirement, etc.

Also, I believe that the top 2 in the LCQ get at worst the 21st and 22nd position payouts, which are higher than the 3rd position in the LCQ, but not by much.

250 $ payout explains why the 250 top 20 riders weren’t showing. That “bonus” $ doesn’t even pay enough for the expenses of hitting all 3 of the races.

Yeah, it’s been brought up again this year and there’s a few threads from last year about it. I think you’re missing my point on the LCQ payouts, though. Normally the riders are still getting a purse even if they didn’t qualify for the main but since they took every rider from the LCQ, I’m wondering if they get both LCQ and main event payouts and if they don’t what they did with the extra money (if anything). That’s why the payout structure has 1st and 2nd in the LCQ payouts at $0 since they are guaranteed main event payouts.

Can you show where it’s been said the purse is paid to the teams? I’ve only ever heard that for WSX.

"Something new with the SMX series is, the purse money is getting paid directly to the teams to help out with some expenses of adding two races (there are now 11 nationals instead of 12) to the schedule."

If the purse money is paid to the teams then I would assume where it goes after that would be determined by each riders contract

In my opinion and not my money, this payout structure should start at A1 till the final race in Salt Lake. Then start again at Pala though Iron Man!

Yeah, but I’ve never seen anything like that from the SMX group and their sites all refer to the purse and bonuses as being awarded to ‘the athletes’.

OK, well, here's a link to a thread where I and others asked all the same questions last year:

Honestly, what’s your problem here? I never told Alex he was wrong and wasn’t an asshole about it. To me, there’s nothing wrong with asking for a source. That’s part of a conversation. I’m not on vital all that much nor plugged into much moto social media these days so I hadn’t seen anything official about the payout being given to the teams.

Thanks!  Based on ML’s response, it sounds like the riders are the ones getting paid. Even if someone else sends in the entry fee, the rider would be the ‘entrant’,  If you are an ‘entrant’ then you are the person competing.

My guess is that this got confused with the WSX purse payout, where all entries are ‘team’ entries rather than just almost anyone allowed to show up and enter.

But that thread is a year old so make sure to read the RacerX article from a couple weeks ago where they state as @USA pointed out: "the purse money is getting paid directly to the teams to help out with some expenses of adding two races". If I'm recalling conversations covering this last year correctly it was that the only way the factory teams would agree to adding more races was if the series would pay the rider's race bonuses. So I'm assuming most of the factory riders do ultimately see those checks but like mentioned in that RacerX article, it sounds like some of the teams will take some of it to cover the cost of the added events. I'm sure all of this is worked out on paper between the rider and teams at this point.

This payout structure is so so good.  It’s hard to argue that these races “don’t count” when in the grand scheme of things they are almost the MOST important financially for the riders.  Three rounds and Jett made 1.2 mil? That’s 1/4th of the work of any other series in the season and has to be almost the same pay.

Am I understanding the bit at the very end of the Vital/Hunter interview correctly, that Hunter and Chase would have rather raced Spain this weekend than have a shot at a million dollars in Vegas..?

With the drastic difference in payouts from 250 to 450, if I was a privateer I would be on a 450 and make sure I get into the top 22 at the end. In the 450s the 22nd rider makes $25k. In the 250 it's only $2k. You have to finish in the top 6 in 250s to make $25k or more.
