I want to hear from all you new gen kx450 owners with higher hours, specifically..
Has it been durable, reliable, etc? Any common quirks or issues? Frame and subframe cracks? Seals going bad early?
I'd really like to have one, or the x model, for a mix of mx and gncc. The smoother power and adjustability has me interested, along with the rebates.. but you know how people trash talk kawi quality...
Coming from a honda.. pretty tough to beat it in the durability department.
All the posts I've read seem to be on bikes with 10 hours or "my friends bike" or a 2015 model... I want to hear from current owners that ride them a lot! Thanks.
Here is a review with 100 hours. https://www.vitalmx.com/videos/features/2024-kawasaki-kx450-project-bike-bolt-performance
They did change the subframe exhaust mount which was big failure point along with the chain guide mount which doesn't appear to have changed much those were the two biggest issue for off-road guys.
Stew has been on the new bike all year in GNCC and they seem to be having pretty good luck from a durability standpoint besides I feel like I heard about a broken shock bolt or two but I believe this happened to him on the KTM as well so probably not a huge issue for us.
I sold them both. Honda quality is hard to beat, however I wouldn't be afraid to buy a Kx. $7k plus tax is a great deal for a great bike.
The real question is how does the 250 hold up.

Got 42h on mine, no problems yet.
Just hit 30. Rock solid.
Not high hours, but 36 so far. Not one problem so far. I have mine set up very close to the Vital MX bike with a Vortex ECU, Twin Air Powerflow kit, Full Pro Circuit pipe, otherwise stock.
subbing to this thread. i know its not a new gen but my last bike was a 19, sold it with 150 hours. In that time i reshimmed 1 intake valve, replaced 1 clutch, repaired the muffler mount 1 time and nothing else besides basic maintenance of wear parts. OEM battery and wheel bearings among many other things lasted the entire time i owned the bike. If my 24 can provide that level of reliability, ill be very happy.
My last KX450 had 100 hours on it when I sold it and I never had an issue. My ‘24 only has 30 hours on it (almost exclusively race hours), and I’ve had no issues whatsoever. My only advice would be to plan on installing a slip-on muffler to uncork this fantastic engine.
This - An exhaust does wonders for the 24/25’s. Also at 30+ hours with no issues. Replaced chain and sprockets (116L), added a bearing/sealed upper chain roller to silence the rattly stocker, and keep good tires on her. 10w40 Maxima ‘Premium’ oil, per Hinson’s recommendation, oil filter every other oil change, and it’s been solid. Great bikes!
I’ll add, a few things I like to do on all new Kawi’s after break-in: Clean the oil screen located under the countershaft as it can get slightly obstructed due to the Yamabond case material. And bleed all three fluids with either Motul or Maxima 600 brake fluid. Take care of your bike and it’ll take care of you.
30 hours on mine. No issues whatsoever. Same with my ‘21, ‘16, and ‘13. Normal maintenance and wear and tear.
I’ve been racing a bit this year and already put $1000 on my contingency card. Since nothing is breaking, I’ve been using the money to pay for my entry fees. I used some of the contingency this week to treat myself to a Risk Racing electronic starting gate and a new MX34 rear tire. Nobody is paying better than Kawasaki this year.
40 hours on mine and love it. I have lost one seat bolt as they tend to loosen a hair if you're revving it through the day. I just recently had my countershaft oil seal go bad. Apparently its a common kawi thing. Clutch is still in spec as new. Oil change with Maxima 10-40 premium every 4-5 hours and oil filter every other oil change. Full PC exhaust, TD Vortex, screenless air filter cage (I have no gripe with stock set up using twin air filters). Overall, I am very happy with it and plan on being on this platform for awhile. I might even pick up a 250 as well.
Did you have to submit a W9 before you could earn contingency?
I just filled out the online for on the website, but I’m quite confident that I’ll be 1099ed for it.
I believe they do a 1099 if you receive more than $600 contingency. It may be $1000.
Did almost 70 hours on my first loaner from Kawi.
Ran stock chain and sprockets until about 45 hours. Still had stock chain guide, sliders, and inserts on it when I gave it back.
Clutch had 50 hours on it.
That's an amazing lifespan for stock chain and sprockets. There was a thread here recently where people were barely getting 20hrs from aftermarket drive train.
