WHAT A LAME track they got in Turkey (I know Turkey plays in UEFA haha but every track "outside" europe just SUCKS tbh). There were what? 21 fans to watch 19 bikes?

I understand the "Oh, but Turkey is a key market for the manufacturers, and theres money coming from those organizers" bla bla bla, but WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

How is the promoter (government?) getting any return of investment on a race with no fans watching? And the ones who are, in europe and america, cant stop pointing out what a joke of race these are.
Is there any "real" argument for these type of rounds? Like, even if it is "Money Laudering".
I cant wrap my head around these events. Its so pointless. What is HONDA or KTM gaining by racing in a "key market" if theres no one watching it? They are not building anything there too, they have been racing in these places for a while now, and theres nothing there!
Like Formula 1 going to middle east since 2002 or so, to "grow" there. Man, theres ZERO young middle eastern talents (or teams) coming up F1's ranks, so WHY? haha I dont understand! Give me one real reason for all of this or just explain me HOW they are money laudering this. Is the government taking 5 million euros from taxes, using 2 million on MxGP and sticking the other 3 million euros up their.... eh...
Next they are going to China, another sh1t show. Help

I imagine the idea is that they woulld hope that bringing the sport to turkey would bring european fans to turkey to watch the race and then spend money on turkish flights, hotels, rental cars, food, tourism…etc. and by proxy of watching the race also discover how beautiful of a country turkey is and not only stay for a bit and spend money, but come back later as well as tell their friends about it. On top of that you have the riders, teams, sponsors, media, family etc also doing all of the above. You also get turkey on tv, and because of that on forums, on social media for a week before and after the race with thousands of ppl who probably otherwise would not be talking about turkey.

The tourism industry is a multi billion dollar industry and europeans by fact of them being fairly rich are one of the more sought after groups where places with things to offer try to entice them to go to. Turkey, being the crossroads of empires is one of the places with lots of touristy shit that can compete with your more well known italies, greece, frances…etc. if more ppl learn about this fact.

Whether the return on investment evens out I have no idea, but I’m not sure how much they pay the mxgp to show up. How much do ppl think theyd pay $5 million? $10 million? to mxgp to come to turkey for 2-3 days? How many flights, hotels, rental cars, restaurants, and tours to the hagia sofia in old town constantinople does it take to get to 5-10 million? Idk that number but someone does and apparently it makes sense or we wont see the model continue on much longer.

Having a race in the CCP is shameful. Just like the Olympics.

Hey CCP, you can’t buy your way to “normalcy”.

A half field of riders and half ass tracks. No wonder most of the guys that come to the U.S. love it here not to mention it's f-cking Merica!

I have 2 potential reasons for you.

1. The facility or municipality could offer money to the series. This could help the facility or local government with exposure and credentials to gain other events in the future as well as corporate sponsorship. Some industries/companies donate money for events in their home town to give exposure to the location as it could make it easier to recruit talent, greases some wheels with local government, and likely has tax incentives.

2. The series could want to expand now, even at a cost, as it will grow the series footprint which is a selling point to potential sponsors.

I’m wondering how much money is involved in bringing that race to China?

And that reminds me, 2 rounds in Indonesia? Huh.

Some will tell us about all the motorcycles in these markets…? Well, if that’s your argument, where’s the Viet Nam and Thailand races? Any idea how many Moto’s are MADE in Thailand?

While were here: I still don’t get how they don’t have U.S. & Canadian rounds -every year- simply based on the interest in those countries…but, I guess the “necessary fees” aren’t always offered up by prominent promoters in those countries?

Oh, well, I guess that’s just how it goes…it all makes our SX/MX/SMX seasons look pretty damn good.

For a time, the Instagram algorithm was sending me a lot of Indonesian motocross content. It seems to be quite popular there. For whatever reason, it looks like they race mostly heavily modified TTR class bikes instead of dedicated MX models.

My guess is that the industry wants to branch out into "emerging economies" with rapid growth so they can show a steep spike of sales in the near term? In their likely thinking, the conventional markets (US/Europe/Australia) are more "mature" and tapped out (if not in decline) for expensive hobbies? I have no proof of this, just spitballing.

...I feel that InFront and the Luongo family would hold a MXGP in North Korea if the check cleared.

In Indonesia, I was told that the track workers and equipment operators had no shoes, wore old tattered clothes, and were asking for food,

so that's kind of depressing and not a very good look for a world championship event...

USA MXGP rounds are not money makers - the last ones they had at Glen Helen were poorly attended.  Plus, the full slate of USA racers won't risk it for no money.

The only way you would get an MXGP in the United States in mid season is to make it an AMA points paying event, and the AMA riders got their regular race contracted payments.

If done right, GP overseas should be mandatory, in an ideal world, 20 GPs would mean 10 GPS in Europe, and 10 overseas. But of course, this isn't the perfect world, Youthstream (now called Infront) keeps their business model intact, win more and don't invest absolutely nothing, this business makes them money but it doesn't help the promoters, because they cannot make money, so they stop hosting the races, these promoters usually own the cool tracks, so, who can afford to lose money? Goverment, making it up for Tourism Promotion (This weekend GP is called "ORIENTAL BEAUTY VALLEY MXGP Of China" I guess thats a goverment tourist office) then, tracks are built in parking lots, and the racing is not very good or appealing for the average MX fan.

I understand the appealing for tourism marketing, but the only overseas GP that made me think I want to go there was Argentina with they beutiful forest where they used to held GP (Not anymore sadly), but the impression I got from Turkey last week was a parking lot in the Middle of nowhere.

And don't get started with other problems the GPS have, 20 riders on the grid, no price money... That's a Infront fault but I guess the Teams/Riders play their in that problem...

Turns out Indonesia is the biggest motorcycle market in the World, and not only that, they love Motorcycling racing, their ecconomy doesn't allow them to have dedicated MX models so they use those TTR.

Go to any IG MotoGP or WSBK post and read the comments, there are a lot of Indonesians, same with RoadRacing riders personal accounts, they will eventually watch Dirt Bike racing.

If Feld were intersted, they could make a preseason SX in Jakarta like Paris and I believe they could make some bank, or at least Honda Yamaha Kawasaki KTM and Suzuki would be very keen on that idea.

Annually the Victorian Government ( state of Australia) justify the F1, they spend x amount to run it, but the money spent by visitors is x + more.

Now imagine if the business’s that benefit are owned by friends of the government officials, or the officials themselves…

I would think it would be successful. Many people use motorcycles and they even have their own sx series.

Because the Indian government and an Indian promoter haven’t paid for one.

I get what you’re trying to say, but Turkey basically is in Europe compared to some of the other ‘world’ rounds. Technically part of Turkey actually is in Europe, so I can understand why they’d give it a go.
Also good tracks aren’t exclusive to Europe, just like being elsewhere doesn’t means they’re bad. Argentina anyone?

Luongo needs to have a round in Iran to increase viewership in London and Paris.😎

It's very sad that all of the traditional real European GP tracks have been eliminated from MXGP.  When you look back at photos of the GP tracks in the 60's, 70's, and 80's and see the size of the crowds and the local pageantry that made each one unique you have to wonder what went wrong to get to the current state of affairs.
