I think that if Jett feels good enough to line up, he feels like he can win.  After that crash early in the Nationals he was riding hurt ,and still winning. The people that say that He and Chase were close this season, seem to forget that he was already hurt after his Hangtown crash. At Southwick he was talking about having to hold on and do more with his legs and got tired quicker as a result. Since his shoulder was bothering him from that Hangtown crash.

If he has been back on the bike for 3 weeks, he has most likely been riding stuff more like SMX than Chase has been . Assuming he or Chase do not crash. I doubt he finishes worse than 3rd .   I expect him to win the SMX title. If he starts off going 1-1 at the first 2 rounds I would not be surprised, or if he starts off 1ith a 1-3 and 2-2 and wins the final with a 1-1 I would also not be surprised.

If he comes out and rolls around just outside the top 5. Or clearly looks unready, that will surprise me.

I've had this strange hunch that the Hangtown nagging injury had as much to do with him being out as his thumb did. And they did not want him to make it into something that would haunt him for any longer than it had to. It seemed like it was not getting better , and I was surprised that it was a thumb injury and not the Hangtown injury that  he said was the cause for pulling out.  I really thought that is was going to be him saying that he needed to take some time to heal up when that info came out.  I'm sure I'm wrong on this, and who knows I could be wrong on how he does too.

I just hope for some good clean racing and that everybody is healthy at the end of the season.

JT seemed to say he's being rushed back for SMX and this is a really quick turn around for his injury.

Im shocked a lot of people are backing Jett for the win considering the amount of talk about how Sexton is faster over the past month..

But yeah.. my bet is Jett for SMX title. Be interesting to see if Sexton can keep his confidence if Jett was to come back and win.

Starts starts starts

If Jett starts 10th he'll probably get 5th. If he starts 8th maybe 4th.

If Jett gets his usual excellent start with his bro Hunter right behind him, Sexton will be delayed as he works his way around Hunter. I don't think Jett will manage gaps with the new-and-improved Sexton behind him anymore. He will have to go 100% to get away from Sexton early on or the new Chupacabra will eat him up.  So Jett wins under the right conditions.

If Sexton gets the start or 2nd off it, game over man. Jet 2nd to 5th with a good start.

It is a really tough call. You know the talent level but how will his thumb feel? If it isn't too painful, I wouldn't be surprised to see a repeat of last year where he does just ok at round 1 and then quickly gets better. Maybe he doesn't even win round two but It wouldn't surprise me to see him in the mix come round three and maybe even win the damn thing. I think Chase has the pressure on him to get this thing done. Hell, you never know who might step up though. Hunter, AP, Cooper, Webb, Tomac, Anderson, and maybe even Ken are going to have something to say about it Smile

On a bad day he would be in the top 5. On a good day he could win.

I think he will podium this weekend and then go from there, but i would not be surprised if he won neither.

He still has a young body and the recovery time for a 20 year old vs a 30 year old is pretty big, and i would say that goes for the riding to.

The younger you are the less you loose regarding riding/speed when you are off the bike. It’s common to hear the older riders talk about how much harder they have to work each year to keep the pace and fitness.

Chase had some good motos this year, but he also had motos where he could not pass Hunter, sure Hunter has become a better rider but i still don’t belive that Sexton is as dominant for a lack of better word as some people belive.

5-2-1 for the W on the series

Since Sexton is already 9 points ahead, this won't be enough for Jett to get the job done, unless Sexton crashes out I think.

Unless JCoop gets a fire lit under his ass that I have never seen out of him I don't see him on the podium.

I really think we are seeing his best.  He's a puzzle sometimes.  He could also use a little less bad luck.😉

2nd behind Chase, due to a mid-pack start.

He put in some fast qualifying lap-times.   Should be interesting to see if he can put the puzzle together and a get a great OA finish.

Justin Cooper S2 1:39.575 2

 Jett Lawrence S1 1:39.655 3

Chase Sexton S2 1:39.780 4

Last year he didn’t do great (by his standards) in the first SMX round but still won the series.  Good chance he doesn’t push it too hard this weekend knowing that it’s really the 2nd and 3rd races that matter.

I suspect that he’s also using SMX to ride himself back into form in time for MXoN.

Yeah I’m positive he’s using the 3 races that pay by far the most all year as a warm up to do well at the race that pays zero::.

His history classifies him as a good starter, but he hasn't been quite as good on the 450, but still decent.  I was at Thunder Valley, he gets those starts with only 20+1, he's a threat to win for sure.

No doubt. I just thought he would take a race or two to get his feel down. His race craft is amazing. Pacing Tomac until he made his move. I can't wait to see him vs the Euro's. LoL good luck!

That belongs to you playing the national anthem before any domestic series in any sport and chanting "USA USA USA" at national events even when a foreigner wins.
Do you want our crowd to yell "SWEDEN, SWEDEN, SWEDEN" when a norwegian wins our series... I dont think so.
