Carlsbad?
We’ll, the picture says Lemon Grove….is there such a place?

Apparently, Piru MX was once known as Lemon Grove.
Yup. Piru was originally called Lemon Grove, then MaxxTrack before eventually becoming Piru Mx. Not sure if there was another one with the same name though.

It was a great track for about an hour a day. 😂
Hahahaha!!! Pretty spot on. Mud/Goo from opening to about 10-10:30, good until 11-11:30, hard packed from then on and the young local flaggers watering the concrete until closing. It was great having a place that close to ride though. I do miss it.
Fucking duh 😆 I didn’t realize it was gonna do that when you click on it. Guess that takes away some of the guess work eh ? Yeah Piru formerly Maxx Track formerly Lemon Grove and I think there was another name too at some point ?
Mattyhamz might remember? Had a number in the name ? Moto 336 ? or something ? Or was that somewhere else ? I swear there was another name but I can’t remember what it was.
From the hills above the 118 thru Saticoy and on thru to the Piru area...SOOOO MANY hidden hillside tracks.
We were sooooo lucky.
I believe there was another one at some point but it didn't last long.
Found this in the box too. My son helping flag at a GH national. His job was to deliver water to the other flaggers and do whatever the head honchos told him to do. He had a radio and said they had him running all over the place lol. Never mind that though how's that first turn ? Yee ha !! Man how many years was that turn the "Official" start of the outdoors ? Supercross is over it's WFO time ! 😃
Moto 126 ? Cause it was on highway 126 ? Does that sound familiar ?
Found it ! MX 126
MapMoto | MX-126
That was towards the end of the track. Didn’t care for that owner too much. Although plenty of guys have talked highly of him and his love of moto. I didn’t see it from him, a lot of guys I know and trust have stuck up for him.
Just a hop, skip and a jump up the road from old Indian Dunes....😎
I never had the chance to ride Piru / Lemon Grove. Practically lived at Indian Dunes until 1981, then when I returned to California, the track had closed. As had Saddleback, Carlsbad, and Escape Country / Racing World.........but Paris was still there, Lake Elsinore had opened back up, and there was Sunrise Cycle Park in Adelanto......also had Gorman to ride offroad a bit. Raced with both my boys all of us on the same gate at Barona Oaks one day just for fun. Ah, the good old days!
Thanks for bringing back the memories!
Lemon Grove MX in Piru, CA? I believe the name changed at some point.
I didn't see Lemon Grove, and guessed before reading the posts.
I recognized the bridge, and that downhill.
I rode there from when it first opened until 1998.
It had a steep climb in the back.
I don’t have any great memories of that track, it was super far for us and wasn’t really that fun (imo) lol. The last time I raced there a guy we all knew in the club crashed in the moto before ours and had to get airlifted out. I remember sitting there on the line watching the helicopter take off and trying unsuccessfully to block it out and get back into race mode. We found out later he was paralyzed. Some of you probably know Chet Dyreson, he started Wheeling to cure SCI and Wheelchair Modz, making custom off-road wheelchairs. He has a Facebook page but hasn’t posted much lately. Hope he’s doing well.
Pit Row
The great memories of that track for me are the ones of watching Eric Kehoe on his Honda of Troy bike. I know other top pros rode there , but he was the one I’d see most often. As far as safety goes , that track was on the edge ( literally ). They had to pack in a lot of lanes in a small area as far as compared to other tracks. Was damn convenient and as stated earlier, pretty close to some sacred moto land.
I rode there a bunch in the 1997-1998 range. But I have no memory of that bridge. When was it added? Or is it a matter of old man brain, and I just totally forgot about the bridge?
When I saw the picture, the terrain looked very much like Lemon Grove to me, but the bridge made me think it must be somewhere else.
I don't know 😆 I have old man brain too. For reference the kid in the foreground was born in 91' and he looks 5 or 6 ? in that photo which would put it right around that time. I do remember thinking there were some sketchy spots on that track where you did NOT want to go off the track, the bridge being one of them. Rich Taylor would not approve.
I know it came down in the late 90's, I think when Marc Peters started running it.
I road Piru a few times before it closed for good. I believe there is a landscape company there now.
A movie was filmed there as well.
Smart ! Well done
Baymer !
The movie where the girl pretends to be her brother ? Motocrossdresser or something ? 😄
Now
sad
Seen Damon Huffman there a couple times. Kehoe too.
Always had a great time at that track. I only ever rode it as Piru starting in about 2002, I always thought it was pretty fun other than having to drive thru LA to get there and back. I would never had recognized it from that bridge in the pic...
Blue622 got airlifted out of there with a broken femur in 2006 i believe...and I met Chet after he had gotten hurt, met him at Perris Raceway back in like 2001 when he ran the race day tire and parts setup... really good dude. I didn't know that it happened at that track.
Here's a token pic of Piru... sorry to see it go.
