With Loretta Lynn's coming up quick, I headed down to our local dealership and picked up a new 450 today.  My son will be racing in 450B and Collegeboy.  He had also qualified for 450B Limited but he chose the Collegeboy so he can race up as it's a A/B age class.  Surprisingly the new 450 was thousands of dollars less than the last one so I left feeling like it was a great deal.

When I returned home and checked my email, I saw that Loretta Lynn's registration was open.  I clicked through a bunch of things and landed on the money page.  We have been there twice already, and I was always a little pissed when I entered my CC info but...do I have amnesia?  Has it always cost me $1200 to register for this event?  Maybe I just mentally block it out, so I don't lose it. idk.

Either I'm a total jack ass for continuing with this or, the Amateur racing families are being taken advantage of (high potential for both).

Congrats to your son for making it and cool of you to get him a fresh bike. Enjoy this time together regardless of outcome, it goes by too quickly.

There are several things you need to pay for.

Pit spot/camping was $500 last time I went and everyone has to buy one. Not sure how much it is now rough guess is $650

Each class entrance fee.

2nd vehicle pass that must follow going through check in, pit vehicle pass , bicycle pass

Who cares how much it is. It’s so awesome you made it! There are a lot of sad and pissed off people that didn’t make it this year and it is a huge accomplishment

Overpriced and overhyped. So much attention and judgement of riders on one race. Just doesn’t make sense to me but to each their own I guess. Congrats on the bike 👍🏻

I totally agree, we are stoked to get out there and see how he goes.  I've had the best time with my kid, we have been racing in some capacity for 14 years now.

Don't forget protest money and an attorney to ensure they follow their own rules 😁

LL is quickly becoming severely overrated. I went once, in plus 25, then got my pro license shortly after. Id rather go do some qualifying laps and watch the race with all access passes than waste money at LL.

My kid has been on one for a little over a year, he's just now 18.  We have a few 250's also but the 450 lasts a long time in comparison.  In one year he put 160hrs on the 450, we did engine rebuilds every 40ish hours.  Really had no issues, 250's didn't get worn out for practice.  "he's a better 450 guy"

Yeah sucks. Super expensive. But congrats and now that it’s all paid for don’t even think about it and enjoy the experience!!! Next year before getting to that point maybe check out the prices so it’s not such a shell shock. Hydrate, acclimate and hopefully dominate.

Look, if I’m going to willingly spend my money on something that isn’t mandatory even in the slightest bit, I'm going to complain about it.

LL's is an overcooked, overpriced,  money grab built on the hype of  RacerX, and MX Sports.  Been there, raced there, later in life vacationed there.  The track itself is a joke for what it is proclaimed to be.  I get that there is a need for 450's, and 50's to share a playground for a week, but Jesus....  Fastest bike that track can hold is a Supermini, and even then it's questionable.  The entire "Legacy" of the event has been so hyped up over the last 30 years as the END ALL TO BE ALL OF REAL MOTOCROSS FOR THE ABSOLUTE BEST TO PROVE THEMSELVES is marketing 101.......

The media machine that has amped up this event, have basically taken ahold of,  what one would truly think is where God himself cut his teeth trying to become the best at Motocross.  MX Sports have milked this fucker for millions upon millions over the last 4 decades, and continue to do so as long as it carries the flag as their "Ultimate Moto Family Vacation", and folks just keep handing over cash.  Bikes have outgrown the track, a normal person cannot get a room at a good hotel near the facility because they are all "unable to accept" a reservation from anyone unless you are "somebody" from MX Sports, or an industry someone they held a room for...

I truly respect the event for what it is supposed to be, I really do.....  but I cannot stand greed.  Bicycle fees now?  Hide and watch, would not shock me a bit if a "Creek access wristband"  doesn't pop up in the next few years.  What, 100 bucks for the week seem fair to swim?  If not, that is ok with us.  We have a urine filled pool everyone can use for free......all week.

Let's milk these poor fuckers as long as they are willing to fork it over.  And our Ace Cotter will be around to smooth over the rough stuff with well funded families, and Factory teams that support them,  to keep it fair for all.

What are you waiting for????  Sign up today for the greatest experience of your entire Moto life, and if you don't, on your death bed, you will regret not ever doing so.  This race is that damn important......  Even God rode here.

BTW....  Come by our booth at the event for a free sticker!!!!!  Also, we have select shirts, hats, and coozies at a discount  rate just for event racers.......  Folks, this is a win win for all of us.  But don't just take my word for it, let me introduce you to Mr. X,  Mgr. of sales for X, as we got him a free room for the week at the Holiday Inn just so he could come here and give you a verbal blowjob for the next 3 mins.....

It is so sad to see what this has all become over the years.  Cuss me all you want for the rant, I am too old to care.

The parents are the ones buying into this, I can't wait for a new Amateur Supercross Series to be started. Game is gonna be changed so these Allstars dont gotta go to Canada or overseas to get a ride.

Yall gonna freak out when you hear about the new amateur SX series with a real style SX event and track.

Back to the bike part of this:

Your wallet told the manufacturers there is still a demand for gas powered dirt bikes, and not electric... THAT'S GOOD.

Your wallet also told the manufacturers people want new 4 strokes, not 2 strokes.  THAT'S BAD.  Tongue

Congrats on the purchase and time spent with your son.  I do believe good memories can be made for much less money, but that's none of my business.

The point of this thread isn't lost on me. But that aside, we've lost the plot on what a speaking with my wallet thread is supposed to be about. I know, I know, it's not that serious and stfu Chris!

It's not, he is just not good enough to make it there so making things up on a forum makes him feel better 🤷‍♂️

I don't know he seems pretty confident. When I call to let my parents know those awesome family vacations and memories were just a scam I'd like to provide some details. In the meantime I'm going to burn my old LL bibs.

Most amateur races are a Ripoff Joke. Loretta’s is one of the Biggest Ripoff races out there. They charge for everything. What a Fucking joke. Also the chances of getting anything out of it is a joke. I know first hand on this we won a title and was promised a ride and it never happened. We had other opportunities but were strung out so long that the other opportunities were gone. Save your money put in the work and go race another ripoff of a race the nationals. Privateers get Fucked in professional racing only the Factory guys make a real living.
