High Point - Hot!

I'm such a pussy these days at partying I get a slight hang over just seeing people party that hard .

Now if I could still get a constant whiff of the bean oil, Castrol R and the like, I would absolutely get my ass to the races.

Don't like the four strokes, and will like the electric bikes even less.

WAY back, it was Hi Point on Memorial Day, Blackwater on Father’s Day, and Steel City on Labor Day.  

Yes, for MANY years, the High Point national ran over Memorial day weekend.

I used to bullshit to Larry Ward and JMB there all the time. They both described the ground at Steel City as a hard pack piece of shit, but there was some great racing there over the years.

As great of a rider as JMB was, RC and RV were even better!

The environmentalists  shut the place down.

Must’ve been related to the guy behind me at the Seattle SX around 94-95 who was bitching to his friends that he could’ve kicked McGrath’s ass on his Banshee, but they wouldn’t let him out on the track…😂

With Chase, Hunter and Justin Cooper you’ve arguably got a stronger top 5-6 than last year.

Spending a few hours out in the sun when you have access to shade and cooled beverages in order to watch the unique sport that you supposedly love shouldn’t be a hassle. 

It’s cool watching on TV, and you already do that for all 30 other rounds in SMX. But if you’re lucky enough to watch a national in person once a year, it’s worth the effort. Most of us who see the national in person rewatch the race on peacock once we get home to see all the angles we missed. 
 

if you’re a true moto fan it’s a no brainer, support the sport and watch it with your own eyes while you can. Tomorrow is never promised. 

Really weird I've never been to this track seeing as how it's only like an hour extra than Ironman and we hit that every year. 

I've only been for a LL Regional a couple years ago, seemed small for a national track

I haven't enjoyed the new track layout and the new viewing sections.  I didn't go last year and the year before for those reasons.  The only 2 I've missed since 1986.  I was planning on missing it this year but my wife wants to go.  So, as of now, I guess I'll beat the heat.  But honestly, it hasn't been that hot here yet.  I live 45 minutes away and I had to wear a jacket last evening.

I crashed and hit my head a bit on Friday during the amateur racing at Hangtown so I did my best to limit sun exposure all day Saturday.  A combo of a sun hat and umbrella seemed to work pretty well, I would stand during the races and watch and then between motos I would hunker down under my umbrella and drink as much water as I could.  I would have brought a chair and a canopy, but I like to move around the track and watch from different spots.  It was hot, but I avoided overdoing it and never even got a hint of sunburn.  Moral of the story, being prepared is everything haha. 

I just can’t imagine being such a hard-core fan being on this message board, and only living a couple hours from High Point and choosing not to go to the race. Boggles my mind at some people 

My son and i are leaving Thursday am, Camping out all weekend and also racing amature day. Its our vacation and we are so looking forward to it. Didn't even think twice about the weather until i saw this post. Didn't matter what it was going to do weather wise we wouldn't miss it. But rather have it hot than wet but i honestly dont think its going to be that bad. 

If you live close get a sunbrella, some water and wife beater tee and a few beers and get on out there!

My attendance is pending my back progress this week and how much my kid wants to go. Will be a last second decision. Usually I have a loaded cooler backpack, but that's out this year since the back can't take it right now. Probably staying home.

I had to laugh. 

Just like “I used to race” and “I used to be fast (lies)”, I used to go to as many nats as I could and hike all over the fucking place. Up and down the hills at Glen Helen and Hangtown, cooking in the sun. I would bring a camp chair, FMF umbrella and a backpack full of water and snacks.
 

Now I’m in my 60s and ain’t got time for that! Last time I went to Budds, I was pissed off because I had to eat standing up! Had to park 2 miles from the track, that didn’t help either. The racing was great, though, so I got over it. But… I probably won’t go back.

High Point is one of my favorite nationals to go to. I went to it, Southwick, Budds ,Unadilla ,Binghamton and Steel City for years. It was awesome to be able to get to half the Nationals with  a 10 or so hour drive .   Sometimes by myself in a rental vehicle, sometimes with a couple racers going to qualify in the 450 class with my 5th wheel toy hauler and a big group or with a racer in their Van .I had so much fun, and have 1000's of photos from those races.   

One of The last race's I went to ( while my Dad was still around) my mother called me to see if I could help my Dad after he fell. I was 4 hours away and felt so bad that she had to call the ambulance.  After my Dad passed I went to a few races, but now my Mom has had some health issues and I'm helping her out and spending as much time with her as I can.  She is a fan of racing, but has only been to a local race years ago. I'm hoping to  bring her along to some local races at some point this year. I think that it would be a bit too much for her to walk around in the heat and humidity at a National. At a local race I could park my RV closer to the track, or shuttle her around in a golfcart.  I am thankful for the time I have with her. I do miss going to races in person though. Southwick was the first National I went to with my Dad, and we went together until I got my license. About a year before he passed away we went to a local race at Southwick. That was the last race we went to.  

 Like others have said, go while You can go, Life gets in the way at some point. I think the first time I went to High Point I was still in a walking cast. I drove the 9ish hour drive solo in the cast and got a hotel late in the night. I walked around all day in the heat in that cast. I had an appointment to get it removed a few days after getting back and it was hammered by then. The weather that weekend was perfect. Warm and no rain. Watching the races online/TV is great. But going to them in person will provide memories that will last a lifetime! 

Personally I love going and watching on hot ass days. Some of my favorite memories at Red Bud were scorching hot weekends. I also love that I might have to search out some shade, drink and extra beer because I'm sweating them out and let's not forget the "scenery"

We went to High Point two years ago and its was a great race but we camped and holy shit the party crowd was too much, just wide open until 4am. 

I'm 30 years old so I don't mind getting after it every once in a while but they were on another level. We drank quite a bit of beer during the race and had a blast and to me the crowd felt a little dead and boring probably hungover, but damn if they didn't get their energy back at 10pm lol. 

I think Hight Point and others are probably like Snowshoe GNCC you have guys coming for a party and a race breaks out, explains why not a ton of hype during the race day.
