This got me thinking. When was the last time two guys faced off in MX who were both the champions last time they raced an MX race. For instance, the last time Tomac rode MX was 22, where he was crowned champion. The last time Jett rode MX was 23, where he was crowned champion. If I am not mistaken, it was 2013 when Dungey and Villopoto were both “defending” champions. It has to be a rare occasion for sure.

As part of Tomac's summer National prep, Star Racing has been streaming a replay of 2015 Hangtown, 24/7 on Eli's phone.

I think race day Eli will be close to the Eli of old...  Which will be good, but likely not good enough.  As someone who has personally witnessed a "beast mode" Eli Tomac, that is enough to win these races.  But we all know beast mode every weekend isn't really doable...  And Sexton will like the bike better outdoors and that's also a good thing.  It's Jett's to lose, but the competition will undoubtedly be better.

Eli usually takes a while to get rolling...in a race and in a season...he won't be killing it during the first few rounds...but he will get there. I still think he is not in beastmode shape yet.

Nah Kenny raced in 2015 so 2016 wouldn’t apply.

REJOICE

my only concern is he spent all last outdoors off the bike and barely had time to prep for SX. Hopefully the speed comes back very very quickly

That really was the best Hangtown track I think, between the larger rollers going up the hill and the half pipe feature right before the finish it was unique and was a lot of fun to ride on amateur day.

I have my flame retard shot on but....

I am glad to see Eli racing outdoors. He will probably win a race or three.

But barring injury, he won't beat Jett for the title.

Yeah not even close, the booter, off chambers etc. definitely best version of Hangtown. Last 4 years have been disappointing

Jett never did go 24-0 as the Nationals got devalued because of this stupid SMX.

Bring back the lost National, preferably to Glen Helen!

Odd how he worded that specifically mentioning he would be at the first round...and the final 3 rounds. Is he skipping the rest?

Can't believe he's ready to lose 22 times at his age

This is the best news of the year. I hope Eli leaves it all out on the track this summer!

Watched 2015 Glen Helen yesterday, there were still times I had to exclaim "goddamn!" watching Eli ride so aggressive. Hope we get more of those moments.

I hate that we lost a national. Outdoors was already shorter than sx so it stinks that we only have 11 rounds now.

Me too, but if they dropped a round at Pala wouldn't that qualify as addition by subtraction?Grinning

Yeah but he’s still taking the title barring injury, so there’s that

Pretty sure Webb will miss outdoors and come back for SMX. Star needs two riders. Now they have them.

Tomac said in the interview with Will that he just loves racing and is not ready to quit. And that he plans to race in 2025. Of course, injury can rapidly change that decision.

Hoping he didn't injure the wrist much...not good for racing MX...or getting ready for it.

Coker mentioned his thumb aswell. Said nothing is torn or broken, so Eli should be in for slc
