Looking to put a new chain on my 250 2 stroke and was thinking about going with a dz2. What are you guys running?

DID ERT3 has been my go-to chain.
With the Honda "Moly" lube and good quality sprockets, they last me a long time.
When you wash your bike, spray the chain with WD-40 so it doesn't rust. The WD-40 will evaporate in a day or two and the chain will be clean & ready for lube the next time you ride.
I was always told not to use wd40 on chains. Maybe it was just o ring chains.
Definitely a no on an o-ring chain.
I am a DID ERT3 guy as well.
X2 on everything 👍🏻

Yeah, the WD-40 tip is for non o-ring chains, just to displace the water out of the rollers after you wash.
Let the bike dry overnight and then re-apply your favorite chain lube.
DID 520mx and i have to adjust the damn thing every time i go to the track..
Really? DID makes good chains and that’s one of their pricier models.
DID ert2 / ert3 here!
450 = DID ERVT
250 2 dinger = DID ERT3
I have also ran the RK GB520MXU’s on my previous 450’s without any drama’s!
125 or vintage/ older 250 2t, I run Mx chain DiD ERT3. Modern 250 2t /300/350/ 450 RKMXU thin oring with SuperSprox rear sprocket, last very long time, after initial stretch maybe have to adjust 1-2 more times in its lifetime. No chain lube needed, use an o ring safe silicone lube after washing. I just recently got a solid 50hrs out of this setup on my 300SX, that I ride mostly in sand…normal chain & sprockets last about 25-30hrs max….
Yeah I’m not sure I’ll buy it again
x2 on all of this.
DZ2 would work fine, but make sure you order through a dealer or reputable online dealer, if it's on amazon there's a chance you'll get a counterfeit, which will not perform very well.
I’ve ran a bunch of DZ2 chains on my 125 and they’ve been great for the money. Love the Honda chain lube w/moly, but just doesn’t work for my sandy conditions, winds up coating the chain and sprockets with sand which puts an accelerate on the wear. Maxima chain guard is my favorite “chain lube”, but I have the best results using 3 in 1 oil before I ride. Doesn’t make everything sticky, doesn’t fling, it’s cheap, and you can find it virtually anywhere.
I take my non o ring chains off every few rides, soak them in some gas for a day, then hit them with a degrease and scrub, shake as much water out as I can then let it sit in a tub of cheap ATF for a day. Hang it from a nail on the wall and let the ATF drip dry. Doing this allows you to clean the hard to get spots for the drivetrain on the bike, like all the crap that sits in your chain slider and guide.
I WD40 on every chain I have, DID, O ring whatever. Guess I don’t know any better.
My buddy runs an oring and that's all he uses. Raves about it and bust my balls about lube.
Another buddy runs an oring dry and raves about it. Busts my balls as well...
I’m running a RK MXU with dirt tricks sprockets.
Have been using Maxima chain wax and MPPL as lube. After 40ish hours chain got a little ratty but I got lazy a few times after washing. The sprockets on the other hand are wearing like iron so I picked up another MXU to throw on.
DID T-ring (whatever it’s called) with silicone lube from the hardware store. You aren’t lubing the pins/rollers on an o ring chain, just keeping those little o rings happy.
Pit Row
DID ERT 2 now 3
DID ERT 3. Previously DID ERT 2.
X ring chain, no lube.
I agree 100% I only have one thing to add I do the same thing love the ErT gold. And always had very good luck with Regina as well As well I’m such a neat freak. I Never lube my chain right before I ride. I lube it at the house let it totally soak in instead of flings it off cause it’s hot and sticky on a hot day. Maxima chain lube is so good a heavy soak the night before keeps my chai good and lubed for my 3 - 5 to 6 lap 49 year old vet intermediate washed up former has been when I was 20 many moons ago
I’d never run o ring chain on a 250 or 125 it’s too much Chan for a smoker. It’s over kill imo. I have always wd 40 my non o ring chain after washing. I blow the water off d first I mean in Texas heat and humidity a chain and bare finish pipes can rust just from
the moisture in the air
Dude same. It’s my $. In Houston it’s so humid you watch your chain rust from heat Water Displacement 40th version always works for me plus when I smell it. Always reminds me of my dad I think he used it as after shave a Vietnam veteran salty as hell. Was the best years of my life with him in the pits. I miss him so much sometimes I just spray it just cause. Crazy how a smell. Like waking by a leaf blower 2 stroke exhaust takes me back to a moto cross track in 1989
Dz2
Yeah, WD40 is the preferred lube for O/X ring chains. Just displacing water and preventing corrosion.
Gear oil for std chains
I toss the kids chains in a ice cream bucket with gas as well, swish around, soak, whatever while Im doing other stuff. Amazing how much dirt/sand/ect comes off a chain. All that grit is just wearing on the chains. Got to clean them if you'd like the chain to last
Only 1 chain I prefer that holds up for 450 MX, and that is RK GB520MXU. Ridiculous how seldom you have to tighten that chain compared to others that have to check and adjust after every day of practice or racing.
Tsubaki Chain MX Alpha XRG 520 also holds up good. Quiet a bit heavier if I remember correctly.
If you believe the Internet hysteria, WD will consume the rings like a cop w/donuts.
I used to use different brands of chains and sprockets. Rock induced misslignment of the chain guide accelerated chain and rear sprocket wear. 20 years ago I switched to regina o-ring and a non aluminum sprocket. The chain and sprocket live life as a matched pair to the end. Never had an issue with the chain. Break in adjustment and then leave it alone until the chain and sprocket are done.
