No, they aren't.

Some of the best races in sx history are on 450's.  The ryan's- james-chad exc.

- Futures Races should be during daytime qualifying and only when that event is streaming on peacock (Can add footage commentary in after the fact, have announcers do voiceover during break in night racing or even before night show and then pipe it into the stream)

- I think 250 should still do both coasts, I think a big justification is cost for ~smaller~ teams to only have to gear up / transport / pay riders etc. for 8 rounds instead of the full thing.

- would love an "under 200cc" 2T/4T class as the exhibition in lieu of KTM JR SX or futures. (1 moto, 5 min or 5 lap format)

Make it like this…

SX - 2 stroke series

MX - 4 stroke series

SMX playoffs - run what you want

Back in reality. If they don’t want the 250s to run a full season they need to set it up like this. 7 rounds east and west. So you still have an east and west championship. Then have the last 3 rounds as a  shootout that’s playoff for the overall 250 championship. Top 9 guys in the standings from both coast are automatic qualifiers and everyone that’s left over has to go the LCQ.

Change SX to 2 250 based classes. 250 Pro, this class is for all the main stars with mod 250s. The 450 is too much for stadiums, destroy the tracks and can’t make obstacles they can’t make if a mistake is made in a corner. All 250s would help with this. 250 lite is the support class. I can be convinced this is one class or split into regions. Stock bikes with suspension mods. This will keep cost down and level playing field. Also salary cap for this class. $75k max per rider, make this a class riders want to move on from, not make a career of. Out doors stays current system along with no limits on mods/salary for the 250 class

I think its fine the way it is, just take out the point out rule (which I believe they have). If a Jordan Smith or an RJ Hampshire want to make a living in the 250's, why not let them? Until a faster rider comes along and pushes them out, why should they be forced to move to a 450 if they prefer the 250.

I agree that if someone wants to make a living in the 250 class then let them.  However, the parity currently is too close and at times eclipses the 450’s.  That should not be the way when the 450’s are suppose to be elite.

I love these threads, we get absolutely insane idea's with no chance of being implemented, nor any benefit to the sport.

A real idea would be much more to do 3 rounds including superfinals like they often do in Paris, combine the top 250 and 450, that is really interesting to see.

They could do that for 3 rounds at the nationals too ; that is one of the things that make the mxdn special, so why not having that more regularly.

Why not 1 or 3 rounds with the top 10-12 in 450 and top 5-6 of each coast ? (* with the 250s inside at the start Smile , a points paying event as a bonus)

Yeah terrible people throw out ideas to change and possibly improve the sport we are passionate about. Agreed they have no chance of being implemented, as we seen with the broadcast and everything else, they will just keep doing the same thing even if a couple small changes may make a positive difference. So let’s keep doing the same thing  even if it produces a flawed product…

Seriously. I think some of the ideas are great though, in my opinion. Just they'll never happen ever. I'm sure the manufacturers will support a 125 class when only a couple of them actually make one.

Well, we disagree 450's are too much, there's 18 years of evidence they work just fine indoors.  I've been to plenty of sx races, as I'm sure you have, given your location you could have been at minni in 13' when the ryan's went at it.  You probably didn't think "man, this race would be better if they were on smaller bikes".

I don't agree with a cap of 75k, nor stock bikes with mod suspension.  This is the highest level of indoor racing our sport has to offer. While its usually younger guys on 250's,  we shouldn't be in the business of capping a pro class to force guys up.  Some guys are better on smaller bikes, it's always been that way.

If anything, more emphasis should be on bringing arenacross up to its former glory, and have that as our stepping stone.

I'm all for change, if its for the better.   For example, the triple crown.  Wasn't a fan at first, and now I love it.

I'm not a fan of age limits on displacement classes. If you want age limits, creare age classes. The 250 and 450 classes are displacement classes and should be open to any motorcycle or rider on an appropriate displacement motorcycle regardless whether it has a 2 stroke or 4 stroke engine.

Too much money being made with 4-chokes.....why would the go back to more affordable/simpler machines.     Even KTVarnaGas have put 2-strokes into insane pricing levels with all the tech.      Honda/Zook/Kawi....what 2-strokes?

SX is a pale shadow of what it once was.   Sure we have moments of excitement and  a once in a while good race, but the tracks just ain't the same.    4-chokes don't even have to work to clear the "nitro circus" obstacles.    It's practiced gymnastics on bikes that take less skill/finesse....   throw in all the other BS, traction control, launch control, holeshot devices, start grates...etc etc etc.

It’s fine to disagree, would be a boring life if everyone agreed. Just saying to flat out dismiss trying anything new is a flawed way of thinking. I was at that SX, and the bikes have continued to improve over the last 10 years. There is a reason the 500 class went away, and I’m not saying to go away from the 450s outdoors where “they can stretch their legs”. Agree there are people that run small bikes better than the “open” bikes, and that’s why I was proposing the salary cap in what is supposed to be the entry class of SX, the regional series. If the 250SX is the highest class of professional racing it should be a full series, not splitting the competition in half yet paying full salaries and full points. 250 outdoor class would be open to anyone that wants to ride it, just like today with no salary cap. Arenacross as a stepping stone is fine, but that racing is an entirely different animal and skill in that discipline doesn’t always translate to SX.

I feel like the 125 class was an entry level class, but those days are over.  We have two professional ,  money earning classes where guys can make 2-3-400k.  What your proposing is a step back in earnings, to push guys up too early.  I'd consider an age limit, or a series limit, x amount of races completed or something.  I'm also ok with two titles, and out.

450's I still don't agree. Sextons 450 wont be any faster now than dungey's was, its not about that for these guys, but you're well aware I'm sure.  I just don't see a shred of evidence for getting rid of them.

For the most part, I'm real happy none of you is on the AMA board.

Radical ideas:

1. The premier SX class should be on 250s. Come on, factory 450's on an indoor track is way too much overkill.

2. The regional East/West support classes should be a stock class, 250 regardless of 2-stroke or 4-stroke.

3. No start devices, no starting grates, no start mapping, no rpm indicator lights. Re-introduce a rider's starting technique to bring unpredictability back to the races. A rider shouldn't get consistent holeshots just because a team engineer figured out a map.

4. No more national points for regional 250 supercross finishes. That's just stupid.

5. Bring back Diana Dahlgren.

2nd best option

I'll get on board with that:

-Futures does the East/West thing for like 4-5 races each coast, with the final round being a shootout.
-250 Class adds 2-strokes, no age limit and goes all 17 rounds for a National Title
-450 Class stays the same.
-Change to a 2 moto format, give normal points per moto.
