Agreed, but I think anything after 2006 is great.

2006 or newer Yz125 is almost identical up to 2022.  2005 is a good bike too, but without SSS forks.

2005 First year of aluminum frame, new engine, back to 6 speed transmission.

2006 First year with SSS forks.

2008 or 2009 they improved the shock.

After that, mostly identical until 2022 except for bars and plastics.

First thing you’re gonna want is a chicken and a slingshot. With that set up you can ride anything.

Start out at 20 hp which will allow you to concentrate on the basics, and as you get better you can increase the power to accommodate your growing skills. Also far less maintenance to keep up on. Best full size bike to learn on hands down.

I am half tempted to buy one of these for trail riding.    The're low to the ground and  go over anything.... there are many local trails I don't dare take my ADV bike on..  Trails not even fitting for a dual sport bike.      Local guys have them and have all sorts of fun on them.

A few years back, we caught a family who was riding these.  The dad was on a KTM 450 but his wife and two teenaged? kids were on TWs.  They were having a grand ol' time.  Not necessarily my thing, but I also like to ride quads so my taste is suspect.

Yeah, they are all pretty good. I recommend 08+ because they changed the triple clamps, fork lugs, and brake calipers in 08 to exactly what they sell today. They changed the fork guard bolt pattern too
