I thought you fellas were throwing me in the thunder-dome with the spoke skins people here...

I don't want to face a pitch-fork mob on account of a couple wash plugs!  Laughing

I agree. Funny story. During last year at college I was living in a student housing apartment complex with my wife. One day while I was washing my bike I yelled at her, "Can you bring me my butt plug!?" I didn't happen to notice the group of girls walking by and they gave me a weird look. Whoops.

Anything beyond basic ergonomics, and proper suspension setup is a complete waste of time and money for most of us. I am guilty as charged.

Beginner level riders who buy factory editions each year. Never get them on the pipe or hit the jumps roll everything. I know a few who do this. One of them earned the nick name one lap. Because that's all they do. Spend more time posing than riding.

Instead of "Remove Before Flight," I want one that reads "This is Why it Won't Start."

Heres what was on my mind while making this post..

Billet triple clamps....

Unless youre after a certain offset, or an increase in rigidity, im not convinced there are many positives. I almost feel like its just the most expensive bling one can add (unless you buy full titanium kits cuz they're sick).. Feel free to prove me wrong but any bike ive ever put them on, i lost comfort. Specifically the old applied style. Now, that may be critical on supercross. Giving up comfort for precision is understandable on a pro level.

Pipes can be beneficial to many to change the power curve.

Those gas gap doo-hickeys, im guilty. I think they look better than the standard hose and i dont have to deal with the tube twist.

What? Getting a comfy bend is one of the easiest ways to have more fun on your bike. $100 can be night and day difference in enjoyment.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with guys blowing $1k on an exhaust for their 450, a bling kit because they want some ano’d doodads on their bike, or a graphics kit with their favorite logos on it. As long as they aren’t saying they need these parts for the bike, rather they just want them because they have the money to spend on them.

I put that akro slip on muffler on my 23sxf450 and it's the best mod ever...  smooths out the bike and now my head doesn't want to explode from the noise of the stocker.

Ironically, my husky came stock with fmf, I put an oem husky muffler on and got the same improvement as above.

Both bikes are sparky riding area legal as well.

I definitely buy a lot of stupid parts for the hell of it. I also dial in my bikes very specifically as a picky 39 year old novice rider.

That being said, it seems like every other rider at a local race has starting blocks... People who are NOT short either.

I'm 6'1" and obviously don't use those things, or a holeshot device for that matter. I started 1-3 pretty much every moto on my CRF450 and I used the starting mode once. It's a little different being back on a YZ250 and starting closer to the back often, but I'm not about to give in and change anything... Pretty sure I'm not going pro anyway.

Depends on who makes the clamps... Many companies simply copy stock and anodize them a pretty color. In that case you're spot on. They'll generally be too rigid since they can't get the same geometry as stock with a machining process, so the ribs are a bit thicker, not tapered, etc. and they're more rigid than stock.

But our clamps are actually designed with stiffness in mind and aren't blindly copying stock. We actually increase rigidity where it's needed for steering precision (torsionally, vertically), but tune stiffness front to back where you get comfort (often times reduce rigidity).

When you guys get to be a certain age and realize you can’t take the money with you and you only live once, you will join the factory and works editions, sprinter vans, VP fuel, and CV forks crowd… believe me, you will! 😂

Agree with most here, I damn sure so t need anything beyond what the bike comes with stock.

I do, however, like to try and build a good looking, decent spec'd bike which is set up as well as it can be... Without going overboard. It's part of the experience.

Similar, I always prided myself on never forgetting to remove it after washing...

Washed my bike before taking it to trade in, stuck it in the back of the van, didn't start it due to being so early. Got half way to where I was going and thought screw it, I'll swing the van into a layby and fire the bike up just for my own peace of mind.... Would. Not. Start.

The bike had always started perfectly, so after a couple minutes of thinking what the fuck is going on, I remembered I did remove the butt plug but did not remove the air filter wash cover... Then had to explain why the bike didn't have an air filter when I showed up 🤦
