This is funny. I was literally telling my buddy the seat was the best upgrade yet. I went with the wide standard height foam with winged cover. Definitely a game changer on this bike.
Thanks, I actually have the standard height wide seat from them and agree it's a huge improvement.
Tire pressure - tire sidewall height - tire carcass and seat foam all have huge effect on suspension. Bolt a 2x4 to your seat and let us know how the bike feels coming out of choppy corners. :-) I'm not trying to be a Richard but i agree is all - cheers.
It's actually unreal to think anyone could not easily see how the two are directly related and affect each other.

I get it but I have a bad lower back, I went from feeling every little bump in my lower back and having to stand up coming out of corners in ruts with acceleration bumps to being able to sit and not feel them at all. I was miserable all day and spent a lot of time protecting my lower back, last ride with the new seat the track was beat up as heck and not once all day did I take a hit that hurt my back. It would relate to what one poster in this thread called small bump plushness I guess. I was surprised it made that much difference too. Oh well.
I was wondering how the standard height standard size would feel but I was so desperate I didn't mind adding 14mm even though i can barely touch the ground on the stock seat. Thanks! One thing for sure is the Guts foam felt way heavier than OEM for sure but whatever it takes man it's awesome.
I ordered one. The one that is stock on my bike is alway so finicky. It would be sick if this button style works easy!
I ordered the Seat Concepts Race 2.0 tall seat.....i'll pass along updates once i receive it.
I think I'm the only person with this bike that actually likes the stock seat....
On another note, after 10 hours and the suspension breaking in, Im needing a little more hold up and stiffness in the forks and plan on adding 10 ml of fork oil as a start. Eventually may send it off for work, but want an interim improvement.
Does anyone know if Honda SS-19 Fork Oil I have in my garage from my previous bike is comparable to the recommended Kayaba Fork Oil the manual recommends?
Thanks.
Cool deal looking forward to hearing how you like it. I was on the fence between the two so I went with the cheapest route. I bet Seat Concepts is awesome too, if you have not tried a seat upgrade you are in for a treat.
First 10 minutes on the bike i questioned myself because of the seat. Once i got it out of my head and got up to speed, i didn't even notice it anymore. Feel like maybe it actually helped me shift weight easier in corners and seat bounce scenarios.
Would it be wild to consider an FX and have a 19" rear on it as primarily a moto bike?
My map switch isn’t working properly. I can’t switch to map 2. I press the button and it blinks 5 times and light goes off. I did buy a new 1 and same thing. Any ideas? Yes the launch control works.
Make sure your bike is not set up for lap times. Stays in map one. A buddy of mine had the same issue.
Have you tried a 96 cr250? Those bikes don’t seem to have many electrical problems
I'm a connoisseur of motocross seats. I'm 6'3" tall so the first thing i get is a taller seat. For me....it makes a huge difference in giving my legs a place to go (if that makes sense). I like the Guts product offerings with the Phantom foam but i prefer to pay more and get the complete seats when possible. I like the shape of the YZ450 stock seat so i didn't switch to the flat top seat. We'll see how it goes. $379.....holy jesus
It’s probably been covered but I went +14mm flat top foam in medium density from GUTS, and as usual the service is great, but the foam is really soft. It’s actually been great for off road and sitting through stuff, but it definitely feels like an adventure seat sort of when you first get on.
Not sure it’s actually 14mm+ taller once you sit given how much you sink in.
Are you a soft ass or a hard ass?
I personally always liked a hard seat with a gripper cover on my bikes. Why? because I want to easily be able to move around on the bike or stay put in turns.
Pit Row
I know it's not apples to apples but I have two friends who raced MX on 250FX's and they liked them. That new 450FX is a good bit different with the lowered suspension but I'd imagine you could make it work just fine with some testing. Same with the transmission, just have to test out some different gearing. I wouldn't even sweat running the 18" rear wheel either. I have raced moto with an 18" a bunch of times and honestly didn't notice any difference.
I like the stock seat and the roundness of it.
I agree that all of those things, MINUS the seat foam, have an effect on suspension. Seat foam affects comfort when your butt is planted on the seat, 100%. But to literally have different suspension settings based on seat foam? That doesn't sit right for me, no pun intended. Maybe I'm not old enough yet.
Edit to add: The bike came with a 2x4 bolted to it, I hated it. Felt like I was saddling a saw horse. I wound up wearing my MTB bike shorts and didn't mind it after that.
Totally get it. The seat gave you a massive boost in comfort. I didn't intend to diminish or doubt your appreciation for it, and if I did, I apologize. My comment was focused on suspension settings, and maybe was out of line.
Question, anyone replace their stock battery? I just bought a firepower battery from Motosport n the battery connectors our on the opposite sides, not sure if it’s the wrong battery? Anyone else have this issue? Or is it not an issue n just the wrong battery? Lol
Possibly the wrong model of battery. I just put in a firepower and it lined up just fine.
Anyone know if a rear shock spring from 2015 yz450f will fit a 2023 bike?
Got a new 6.0 spring sitting from last time I rode yamaha back in 2015 so will try it if it fits.
YUP. good to go
I love my FX so much I got a second one, gotta have a race bike and a practice bike right?😅
Anyone have . 52 fork springs or 6.0 shock spring laying around?!
I figure this would be the best thread to ask…
I’m planning on jumping aboard a ‘24/‘25 YZ450f at the start of 2025 and would like to know the “must-do’s” right out of the box! So please let me know anything in addition to the below…
I’m already planning on doing the following work/changing the following parts for personal preference/feel;
Renthal twinwalls - 996 bend
Core moto steel braided lines
DID chain / Renthal sprockets
Works connection clutch perch
Re-grease the steering stem and linkage/swingarm
Re-spring the suspension
In my opinion, the bike is great in stock form, it’s very impressive!
Handlebars are preference, I go with a non cross bar for less rigidity.
Id suggest riding the stock brakes before you do the braided line. For me, the stock front brake bites too hard. I’m coming off years of Using Brembo so I did the brembo master mod with old Yamaha caliper.
I like the works connection low peg mounts.
Waterproof the map switch/kill switch with silicone.
Twin air filter cage is nice
upload a bunch of maps to test
