According to RC, Sexton should have made several passes on Jett in MX because Jett should have pulled over and let him by.
On their Title24 pod he and RV discussed what they heard about Sexton riding the Star Yamaha and really liking it but then signing with KTM anyway.
They speculated a bit on why that may have been.
LOL, I couldn't believe my ears, never lead a single lap or made a single pass on Jett, but pull over and see where he's making up time.
You can't make this stuff up.
Sexton was pretty transparent about it and said the money was absolutely part of his decision. He talks a lot about “feel” of the motorcycle so it’s a bit contradictory he didn’t pick the bike that presumably felt better. I don’t blame him tbh. These careers don’t last long and can end in an instant. Get that bag Chase!

Chase has also said multiple times during interviews that he wayyyyyy underestimated how difficult the steel frame would be for him to figure out.
I feel like RC took a similar risk in 05 going to Suzuki, especially that all-new RMZ
For every wise thing RC says, he spouts 3 dumb ass things.
I was just about to say the same thing. I'm a huge RC fan, and he has some really great takes at times, but other times he is just WAY off. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I get the feeling RV has the same thoughts on their podcast.
RC has forgotten more than I'll ever know about this sport, even though I'm older than he is, but that doesn't mean everything he says is gospel. You can say he's wrong and way out in left field and not disrespect his career or what he's doing now.
Sometimes I think RC doesn't actually realize how different he was, and he just thinks some of these dudes just don't work hard enough or they'd be winning. Kind of the "I did it, why can't they" kind of thing. In a weird way it's arrogant and overly humble at the same time.
Now, the broadcast is a whole other thing...THAT, is absolutely terrible 😂
RC said he saw Chase and his agent or trainer in Tallahassee and knew he rode and loved the Yamaha. Still interesting he chose ktm other than he would be the number 1 guy with all efforts on him. I do think Chase could have done really well on blue.
Chase went to KTM for the money hands down. Between Redbull and ktm they dropped a good amount on him. Wish these “test” would become public knowledge. Like chase should own it yea i rode the yamaha and liked xyz about it. But instead everyone is so hush hush another reason why this sport will not grow. Imagine all the private test that were had at Ricky,James or chads facilities back in the day.
It was interesting to hear Chase say on pulp that the Star racing part wasn't true.
When RC referenced the Goat farm getting shut down for a few days last year I could’ve sworn it was about Webb.
Sexton also said he watches the broadcast on mute
Looking back now taking more money was probably the best decision. Less money an hoping for more bonuses might not pay off as long as jett is healthy.
I heard sexton rode the star bike & said "idk how tomac rides this thing that fast." i don't really see the star bike being a much better fit than the ktm. DV12 is tearing apart tomac's bike saying the suspension isn't set up right after 12 rounds. DV also has videos to explain. Justin Cooper had like 1-2 great races all year then just running around 7-10. Any insight on his thoughts on the bike or anybody watching? But he's also in a tough position because he's a 3rd rider on a factory team. probably wants to keep a ride so i wouldn't suggest shitting on the team or the bike. Cooper Webb is just a dog & after riding the old gen yamaha i think he could ride a broomstick out there & compete for the championship. Also was he not admitting to struggling with the yamaha for 6 months before finding something 2 weeks before the season? Mfer got on the bike in JUNE had 6 months of prep. He got a major head start on sexton when it comes to time on bike & even he struggles at certain rounds.
if sexton is going this fast this soon i'd say the days are near where he's about to go next level. If you subtract jett he is right there in the title fight on a "sub par" bike riding "sub par" until 2 rounds again. Sexton's a champ & he's going to ride whatever he's got & get it dialed in & be in the fight the next 8 years ( assuming there is no major catastrophe or life changes etc).
Idk. Everybody hating, especially Ricky. I can guarantee you sexton did not tell Ricky the star bike was great. Somebody at star told Ricky that. Sexton is from the midwest, sexton rode the yamaha & i'm sure he told the team hey bike's solid because that's what midwesterns do, then he hopped in the truck to leave & said yeah that ain't it. Not like he's going to show up & say yeah star your bikes dogshit thanks for closing down the facility & letting me ride.
Wow, I have never seen someone in front of me take a story and create their own version of it, and stamp it. Lol
Why do any of use think we deserve, or are owed, all this information about who tested what, what did they think, why did they sign with A and not B?
lotta athletes do this on film study , I’m not surprised
Pit Row
I’m certainly not one of those who expect it, and I realize that sometimes ya gotta grease the wheel so to speak in this sport. OEMs play ball together, as do the racers and some of our “media” I mean bros. I don’t believe we are owed the information, but I do think that the secrecy is funny when everyone knows these guys ride each others bikes etc.
If I was running one of these manufacturers I probably would not be too worried about my rider riding another bike in secret, but the pictures/video better not leak out.
Chase was so fed up with his Honda last year any bike he tested he was going to like just because it was different. He might just not be great at setting the bike up. Dazzy took a dog at him saying the 450 needed a ton of development for Jett and Hunter because it was set up so poorly before.
obviously probably some gamesmanship at play, but it could be more about sextons ability to set up a bike then anything.
RC often spouts this ‘tactic’, but I don’t ever remember him doing that when he had Stew or Reed on his tail?
But it wasn't that big of a risk when Suzuki said, "yeah we copied the Yamaha motor".. Carmichael rode a team YZ250 after Reed beat him so much at the end of '03 Supercross season. RC said the motor was unreal compared to his Honda. Then Suzuki calls and said, yeah we copied the YZ, its all good.
Not once lol. 06 San Diego perfect example.
Chase also said he rode the stock KTM for 2x 30min on a beat up track and really liked it.
IMHO, it's the factory bike that is the main issue, not necessarily the brand or generation of bike.
So when Star shut down their facility fans publicly speculated it was for a rider to test a bike unnoticed in private, but all moto journalists stated emphatically that wasn't going on. Now months later RC states everyone in the industry knew Star shut down so Chase could test their bike in private after all. That is lying, that is betraying trust. If journalists were not allowed to state what they knew was going on they could have just as easily have said that then deny the truth.
We are not owed anything but the decency of not being openly lied to. Don't state anything if you can't state the truth.
All moto journalists, huh? I remember a FEW reported they heard the same thing but didn't know who it was for, or they did and couldn't say.
Can't remember this apparent giant media-wide cover up you are talking about.
If you think the moto industry is the only one lying to you, go buy some ocean front property in Arizona.
Three or four "I'm an insider and know the answer, but I can't tell you" members here just took their shirts off.
It'd be interesting to see how far apart the offers were. It is real easy to say, I'd pick the team and bike that gave me the best chance to win but stupid levels of never worry about money would be pretty ok.
