I think if I were one of the racers, sitting down in my 50’s and reviewing my career I’d rather be able to think I’ve won an MXGP World Motocross championship than the rest of them. I’d probably have less money and maybe less famous but to say I’ve travelled the world and raced a wide variety of tracks and beaten the best that turned up to race against me would feel pretty good.

Well lets see. The reigning MXGP and MX2 champions are coming to race in the US. Name the last AMA rider that won his first 250  or 450 championship then left for Europe.

The most prestigious championship to win- or the most lucrative?

Prestigious: MXGP 450

Lucrative (by far):  SX 450

Which, I would argue, is why all those guys come over. There's no particular love of the tracks they'll be riding - in fact I would argue the opposite is true - there's a love of the potential to become very rich very quickly.

I think SX wins the marketing world championship.

MXGP diversity is so far ahead than any other mx - sx series in the world. Yes it’s a pity the US riders stay home, but can’t blame them for wanting easier money.

Sx for me just based on the difficulty.. I think most of us on here could do a lap around a National or MXGP track at a decent pace (not pro level obviously)

Yet, not may of us, myself included could get through a set of whoops, let alone those technical rhythm sections.

Supercross requires a special level of talent.

You  could do a lap of Lommel in race conditions at a decent pace ?

maybe you can but jeez that would be a challenge for even a decent local pro

The manufacturers place more focus on AMA Supercross. It gets the most eyeballs all at once from a viewership standpoint, even more so than the GPs. As of right now, the SMX title is still too new to be the most important, but it seems like it has legs. That one may eventually end up being more important.

MXGP should be the most important and prestigious, but as long as Luongo keeps using it to line his pockets at the expense of the actual racing, I don't think it can ascend to the top spot.

The triple crown which now might be four something. Winning the SX, MX and then MxDN was always the ultimate. Now with SMX that’s it. It’s the ultimate year.

AMA 450 Motocross championship.

SX is a different sport, so there is no comparison.

I wonder if anyone will get all 3 in a year (450 class) ?

We’re talking prestigious, so that means gaining respect.

I just think an AMA 450 title isn’t as respectable as a MXGP title

Think Jason Anderson, then think Prado.

Prado has more star status for sure.

Or say Webb, or Herlings.

Same thing. MXGP champions are the biggest names in our sport, while not being forgotten as easily.

Yeah, outside of US i think a lot of the respect for Tomac comes from his outdoor late Moto charges. His beast mode is at a mad level.

But its a shame it was only ever really in a national series, if he won MXGP, SX450 & AMA then you have an argument for a new goat.

No. SMX is 3 races, it's not a true championship

Follow the $$$$$$

Like it or not but 3 races for the SMX Championsip and a shot at winning 1.3 million is still a championship are real and odds are much better at winning it than any of the rest of the championships.

1. Jett Lawrence | $1,210,000

CHI – $100,000 | 1st
LA – $100,000 | 1st

Maybe I am getting old but SX is just something to hold us over until summer. SX is cool, it’s a great show, it takes insane skill, but the sport is motocross.

MX

MXGP

SX

I doubt most of us could do two 35 minute motos in the summer on those tracks at any pace.

The most prestigious would be the one the riders fear the most, No way will you ever see a American win a MXGP World Championship, they can not even compete with the elite riders of the world in the MXoN losing 12 of the last 13 years.

As far as manufactures go the the in the US its 450 SX in Europe its the MXGP. Total fan base I would think that the GPs have a bigger fan base world wide much like F1. SX is the NASCAR of MX.

Going out on a lim here but I think the riders around the world think that 450 SX in the most prestigious title. Look at all the riders that have came over from the GPS. The only reason more MXGP riders don’t come over is the cut in pay they would take until they become a contender for a SX title. In saying that I hope Prado comes over.

Dont post common sense on here.  Like you said there is a reason mxgp guys come to sx,mx in the states.   If the 450 mxgp was that important.    Vialle lawrence, ferrandis roczen would be there.
