Broadcast Needs A Lot of Work

Man this place is unreal. Just shut up and enjoy the racing. holy fuck!

The racing would be a lot easier to enjoy if they actually showed it. I can tolerate most things about the broadcast, but they have picture in picture technology, yet still decide to cut away from the racing to show irrelevant crap on the full screen. I don't think showing the actual race should be considered too big of an ask.

Less of an issue with the guys in the booth than the fact we only watched the top 2-3 guys through both mains....when really nothing was going on.

As someone who typically just appreciates the fact that we get to watch races live, I try not to complain too much. The fluff in the middle of the race is getting to be a bit much for me. I understand that Formula 1, and Nascar, have some of those cut aways, and informational pieces, but those races also are much longer than a typical Supercross race. When you're cutting away from an already short 20 +/- minute race, you're killing the viewer experience for the race. It's much easier for the other racing sports to throw in a little filler during the race when it's a long green flag stretch at a super speedway for instance. Would love to see them get it figured out but we're still just small fish, in an even smaller pond.

Remember Posey with the ABC network jacket and headphones trying to climb up at Carlsbad to show the steepness?

For people who complain about the broadcast .What did you think you were sitting down to watch? Go watch a college debate team if you're that hung up on talking points.

It’s mind blowing grown ass adults complain this much about the broadcast. Like it’s literally EVERY week. People are muting it?? Focus on the racing. Who gives AF what they say in the booth. It’s never bothered me once to where I need to come to vital and create a thread about it. Nothing will change.

There was drama at the start with Honda trying to get Jett’s tire cover off seconds before the gate dropped…and they switched to a shot of Ferrandis!

Unbelievable.

broadcast has become beyond an embarrassment the last several years.

(1) camera work has been dodgy. cutting away from major battles, missing crashes, weird split screen that makes the race worse. cutaways to little talking segments during the heat of some battles

(2) announcers. glad ralph is gone, but ricky tripping his over his own words and his semi-shrill voice makes the program cringey. Weege holds the show together, other announcers are mediocre at best. can they find someone with a nice talking voice who knows the first thing about MX?

(3) advertising / NBC: what is up with these weird "progressive" ads that pop up on peacock? I intentionally don't watch major network shows so that I don't have to see this kind of stuff. But to watch SX I have to stream peacock and see over and over ads for HIV medication or other ads showing "nontraditional couples." its really an embarrassment to the programs' base of viewers

Funny you mention that.

My GF looked over at me and said,

"I'm pretty sure they're missing their target audience with that ad".

I didn't even know what "discarvy for prep" was until watching two thinky sick dudes rubbing against each other in the ad for the 1000th time. Imagine my shock to find out this is a drug you need to take so you can have uprotected receptive gay sex with your various sexual partners with slightly less risk of HIV.

wonderful. Exactly what i would want my kids to see during a short break between heats.

we need obscenity laws asap

Roll on MXGP this weekend.

Prime example is Paul Malin, he is great to listen to.

Lisa and Georgia had real info down on the track.

They just flat out refuse to show the race. I can’t understand it.

- Beta with a great result

- Hunter's DNF

- Any other racing aside from either Roczen, or the top 3.

Crossing my fingers for RC to get the boot. Great enthusiasm, but can't call a race to save himself nor provide technical insights.

If you watch other broadcasts like F1, MotoGP, Tennis etc. the level of commentary is way better. And the broadcasts too seem to capture ALL the key moments.

Im curious about what you think about Weege’s performance since you mention F1 and Moto gp.

i follow those sports to and i often say that the sx broadcast is crap compared to real proffesional racing.

But people in here seems to love Weege job in the booth and i can’t wrap my head around why?. Can someone please explain exactly what he is doing that is so good?.

I don’t know if it is a cultural thing or a american thing that you only can comment on what’s in front of you?.

As a fan of any motorsport i want to know what i can’t see with my own eyes. I don’t need the obvious stated the whole race.
I’d rather get the information that a guy outside the camera just gained 2 seconds on the next guy and within 1 lap we might have a pass on our hands.

Paul Malin manage to do that by him self in the Gp’s and here in AMA sx and Mx you have 2-3 guys that just ramble about what’s going on in front of our eyes and never speak about the things we don’t see.

Malin often say during the brodcast that the crew should switch to another group of riders because he can see in sector times that there is another fight going on if the camera crew have missed that.

RC get a shit ton of crap for his work on the broadcast but as i said, could someone tell me what Weege is so good at regarding his work? Not that he lives moto bs for RC lives moto to and get heat for his job.

Downvote all you want but please explain what i asked about Weege.

Weege is probably the best from current race callers in America. Certainly not the best but not bad. Weege does way better with motocross. I reckon the Supercross broadcast director is making him do things a certain way because even Weege is much better.

A recent example of great commentating was when Weege and various ex-professional riders did the calling together. Rick Johnson and a few others were great.

Bro have you ever sat through a race day live? Chris Bondo the producer needs to be relieved of his role, he is so out of touch and has no idea what fans want. Also the most technical issues I've ever seen on a live Broadcast every week. It's a clown show, he is very bad at his job, and noone cares yeae after year.

i was shocked to hear weege say on the pulp review that he had to "give props" to bondo. it is asinine that he still has the same job after all these years. maybe let someone who knows what to look for on track, can see someone putting in a fast lap, can see passes being set up, etc. have the job? i try not to complain because i dont know what id do if i couldnt watch each race live every weekend, but after all of these years something has to give.

Me thinks Weedge got an ass chewing and a good threatening after he called the MavTV shit show, a shit show.

He has not been the same since. Brown nosing feld and mx sports every chance he gets while constantly berating the fans.

They've developed some sort of dumb recipe that when a guy is on a hot lap, they HAVE to go to the split screen and show an interview of the same rider we are watching on the screen.  It really is stupid and the interviews would be so much better between qualifying - and also Dan Hubbard is the biggest blowhard on the planet.  He never shuts up!  And what he is saying is idiotic.

What kills me the most is they almost act like nothing is happening on the track.  Someone could be flying or crash and they just continue to blabber about what someone said last week. Or say something we’ve heard 400 times.  JB try’s to tell us whats going on but you can tell he is tied up and has to stick to some script

The content with the status quo from the broadcast is maddening. Like this is the best we can do, don’t bother trying something else.
