I know McGrath is the King of SX, but this is the most iconic era for me:

Not technically Big, but definitely Bad, Dick.

Baddest man off road for a long, long time.

He went faster on those old short-travel Huskys than most could go on today's bikes. Mad skills. Cool

I just want the story behind the routing of that factory Yamaha throttle cable. Just looks so wrong and dangerous. Thought we were further along the evolutionary path by then 🤷‍♂️

I think he was the first US 500MX Champion? Through his being highest finishing American in the '70Trans AMA?

Then, of course his 8 consecutive Enduro titles, and,  8 consecutive ISDT Gold medals

He came over to do 2 (I think) 2 day Enduros in OZ, way, way back. Orange /  Bathurst, and, perhaps  Condobolin?

I think he won his DH Vet / Masters World Championships class at Mont Sainte-Anne in 98. I was in a 'younger' class, and hooked onto him in a few practice runs, and he was pretty bloody good at line selection, something I prided myself on. Few of the MTBers knew who he was.

MX Book

Maybe it is my past as a race promoter and working a lot of nationals, but did anybody else notice the absolute chaos in that field?

No lanes in between or in organization whatsoever.

Every year there is whining and bitching about traffic at some events and being stuck to get out.

What if it took you a couple hours before you could even move your car at all?

0609FEA4-073C-413D-BB1D-D29235B28E62Well, here I am again. Instead of being productive on my Saturday morning I’m scrolling page after page of bad ass pics and reminiscing about my moto past!
These guys sold me on Yamaha as a kid.

Lumberjack, Hurricane, and Golden Boy. Even their names were cool.

Likewise.

But I always wondered why Hannah was in front of Glover.

Didn't he read the pit board?

I didn't even notice Rick was wearing a mask.

Shame on me.

I broke so many frames in the 70’s I can’t even count. We don’t know how good we have it now.

We know how good we have it now. It’s the younger guys that don’t. Machining and metallurgy have come a long ways since we started riding. Wish we had this stuff when I was younger.

The good news is by the time I get to page 10, I have already forgot the first 1-4. I am in a perpetual loop now....

Man, you must being taking some of those "memory" supplements. I forget what I came into the room for and when I turn around I forget where I was going back to! Grinning

I always wonder if this picture is at the same time as the one from the RH side, that was put up earlier in the thread.

I think it's Saddleback 1983, Banzai Hill -the same day / event, perhaps the same jump / sort of case, / just "made it". I've the thought it's from the same 'moment', but from opposite sides, and this LH side, a millisecond after the RH side pic.

Either way, both pictures are fantastic, and, Very "Berserker Bob Hannah'.
