I ride a 125 but with today's tracks with big and bigger jumps it is a lot of work to always have the speed to clear them which is frustrating. But for the woods especially if tight I wouldn't want to ride anything else really, or maybe a 150/200 would be the best of both worlds ?

Bro, my 150…at 67 years old even TRYING to wring this things neck is so much more fun than wearing the brakes out on my 450!IMG 1511 1.jpeg?VersionId=1Ju

This almost confirms my thoughts to scoop up a 125 as a second bike. I've been going back and fourth for the past month.

The manufacturers sure don't.

Not sure how maintenance is on an F bike, but I remember changing a ring and plug after moto-1 on my 125 and then pulling the hole-shot in moto-2, its so easy to work on them.....

Nope, liquid cooled, probably around 2003/2004 back when I was riding KX's

That would be a lot more work! I’m impressed.

Because a modern 125 is way easier to ride than the piston-port RM100 I started racing on.

I'm 73 Years Young (145#'s and Fit) and the 125 is toooo much fun. 23 YZ125 (134) and a 2024 YZ125X for offroad. My YZ 250 sits a lot.

I'm a much better rider on the 125 than I was riding 450/350 KTM's. The 2001 CR125 kart has made my 125 dirt bikes more fun as to drive the kart, one is a 11500 RPM plus all the time. You get used to listening to the hi rev motor and that translates well to the 125 dirt bike. The light weight enhances the experience!!

Because whenever I make a mistake I’m not punished with an instantaneous blast of torque to the rear wheel.

I was thinking the same. I'm doing my first top end now and went with oem. Parts were close to $200 and with labor costs these days it would probably be double that if you had someone do it.

Piston for my 150 cost me almost 300 LOL my Honda's used to be a little over 100!

For 20 plus years I have ridden 125's, never once thought of riding a bigger displacement, just so much fun when it all clicks and comes together.  Only exception is my 200 enduro and obviously road bikes.

Well we are fixing to find out.  Our state series has added a +30 and +40 125 classes this year.  My son has a Husky 125 we are fixing to put a lot of hours on it.

Sounds Fun the 40+ class should hv quite a few. In Wi. We only hv 12+ 125 & there Really fast with big turnouts. There’s 1 other 50+ rider he raced since the 80,s & is fast. The lines you can use make riding soo fun. Like landing from a tabletop then a short straight to a rt corner into a hill with a floater jump. I make my own line land from tabletop. Then go far left where nobody rode . Then standing I cut an angle to the corner drifting the rear end in 3rd & cut an arc line inside the corner ruts.  So much faster than slowing down  & getting in a rut. I laugh because it’s like driving down a rd then cutting across a field then back on the rd. Hard pack never worked with clay powder on top, with hills & valleys. Similar to an Italian track. With mostly 125,s riding new & old. I Love the track it’s like riding on ice with hills & old school jumps . If it’s slippery it’s so easy to spin & keep it singing. Soo Fun. IMG 9154 2

You don't have to time most of the big jumps. Just hold it wide open and see if you make it.

This. Pin it to win it? No, pin it to survive.

Yeah that keep it on the pipe and all. But I lock in to a deep channel of focus. And work on technique & being Real smooth.  Like Marvin perfect technique or Huffman.  My body is too shot to ride like a 29 yr old. I let the bike do all the work now.

Riding a 125 excites all the senses for me. When I ride my 125 which is a 21 YZ, it is like the perfect blend of modern and old school. The ergos and handling are modern, but the way the engine makes power and the way it sounds takes me back to a different time. I can ride the 125 all day and not get beat up. It doesnt take me for a ride when I do something stupid either.

Also, because some of them just aren't out there anymore...  It's nostalgic and bitchen all at the same time.  This belongs to a good friend and I can't seem to get him to sell it to me.

I traded my 23 KX250 for a 23 125 XC a couple of weeks ago. I’ have a learning curve with the FI to deal with, but that thing is so much more fun than riding the 4 banger.

I had taken 12 years off of riding and when I started back with the kx250, I thought to myself, ‘I seem to remember enjoying riding more then than I do now’. Well last Saturday that enjoyment came back when I took the 125 out to the track.

Thx , I hv few phrases I think of or say out loud to myself.  Start with pu the intensity that’s from bball . Clear your mind get your body ready.  Get body shook out, breath deep & relax. A phrase stolen from Emig at the 94 des nations . I,m the fastest 125 rider in the world so get ready.  To I,m the fastest 50+ 04 cr125 rider in the world, so get ready. Haha.  Create a hvy pressure that a great rider is rt on ya. Like go go go he,s on the inside. I talk when I ride . A mistake I say clean it up. Hit a section perfectly. I say eww that felt good. No negative thoughts.  Yell a whoa & get ready, come on bring it.  Etc I only do 4-5 lap heaters . And try to make it an exciting amusement park ride as I can.

Rotating mass/inertia is a much bigger deal than most riders realize. Riding something with a tiny 125cc piston has almost no impact on changing direction - you can throw a 125 around like nothing else both in corners and in the air.
