Riding a RMZ converted to electric, I see why the a real clutch would be great in two situations. - Riding wood it makes it a lot easier to pop the front wheel and/or do a pivot turn. If your throttle is mapped to be smooth and easy to manage in ruts and 99% of the riding situations, it makes...

Balgaroth Added a reply to Effect of a leaky pipe on cylinder wear ?

The current one is new, one of KTM pipe that used to be stuffed with a cat (for a 125 exc). I got it from someone who cut it open, removed the cat material and closed it back. Visually it is in perfect condition but the angle of the pipe throat is slightly off. I'd rather not have to buy...

Hi guys, Quick question for those with a very good understanding of 2 strokes. I have a pipe that is bent in a way that the pipe doesn't seal great with the cylinder. I don't see any smoke coming out, it doesn't make a different noise than it should, but I can see quite a bit of spooge exiting the...

Ok so It's not just me it seems. Too bad I already throw away the packaging of the gasket kit it would have been interesting to see where it is manufactured. I avoid All Balls like the plague and picked ProX thinking that Japanese is somewhat better than Italian (could have bought Athena kit also, aside from OEM). Before splitting...

ProX had always source the OEM part or equivalent from another high end brand. The old pistons were ART who usually made the OEM pistons. It is my understanding that they were bought by the same company that own Wiseco and All Balls. Now the piston that I mjost recently bought was unbranded and not the same as the ART. Sadly, it seems that the conglomerate has started to chase pennies at the expense of the brand.

Creating the thread to share my experience with a complete seal kit I bought to rebuild my EXC125 2004. First of all the shape of the gaskets is not very precise, needing to recut some of the gaskets for them to fit or not interfere with some parts. Of that was the only issue that wouldn't be too bad but...

The current FIM MX rules don't specifically ban electric bikes. They do specify cc for engines in each class, and specify single cylinder. The rules therefore didn't anticipate electric development, any more than they anticipate say a gas turbine powered bike. Electricic vehicles have a clear future. They should be encouraged, not excluded. If they turn out to be too competitive, amend the rules in due course to allow good racing. As it happens, I don't believe the Stark is comoetitive in mxgp at present, the range seems insufficient unless the power is reduced to an uncompetitive level. So...let them...

You mean like FIM SuperEnduro, where electric motocross bikes were included in the rules, but when Stark turned up to race, the FIM changed the rules the day before the first race of the season, excluding electric bikes?

Balgaroth Started a new thread Alternative to Asterisk ?

Hello everyone, I've had my UltraCell 2.0 for a little while and broke my left lower part. So far I can't find the spare part anywhere (in Europe). Also I started to ride with knee pads meanwhile and only wore the right brace the other day after hurting my knee doing something else. Having to ride with the Asterisk brace...

Balgaroth Added a reply to Why ride a 125....?

3/1/2024 12:46am
I ride a 125 but with today's tracks with big and bigger jumps it is a lot of work to always have the speed to clear them which is frustrating. But for the woods especially if tight I wouldn't want to ride anything else really, or maybe a 150/200 would be the best of both worlds ?

Great demonstration but you basically just explained what I said with the proper math behind it while I didn't believe it was necessary to illustrate my point. Read again, I will quote myself "Now total volume is the same, but flow isn't". So yeah I agree with you. Now what I have a hard time understanding, is how/why the difference...
It does tho, that's basic physics. Say you take a 10mm shaft that will travel 100mm. Put it in a 11mm diameter body and your oil level will basically rise of 90mm or something like that which will create a lot of flow through your base valve at the top of the body. Do the same with a 20mm body...
The juntion between the body and the piggyback (shock's head) is pretty subsential and would easily accomodate for a return circuit with a check valve so the oil return would be ensured, rebound being taken care on the main piston like any normal monotube design. i believe the influence of Basevalve is mostly dictated by the body/shaft diameter ratio. The...
i was aware of the "orifice damping" effect yes, although I thought it was only dependent on overall port surface rather than how that surface is split in terms of number of ports and their diameter. I need to experiment more with Restackor when I have more free time to see how different port arrangement can be at constant surface...
Hello everyone, I have an interrogation for the suspension neerds among you. While this isn't MX specific, suspension tech is suspension tech regardless and the knowledge in the moto world is much greater than in the Mtb world (specific piston is off a enduro/DH shock, Formula MOD). I also ride (soft)enduro which is why I am frequently here. So the...
