Looking at it again, my biggest concern is if guys go down on the start. Not a lot of time to get up and out of the way before the leaders are going back and forth across the first little straight and the opposite direction across the first turn. Might see some red flags if bikes get tangled or anything like that.

There's five 180* turns and one 90* turn before they cross the start again.

You cannot make this shit up, you have pretty much the whole planet at Daytona to layout a good start, and they do this.

Fuckwittery

If Weege doesnt call this out for the crap it is, he needs to have a word with himself.

Not sure what drugs they are on but you need to have your doctor cut down on your dose of estrogen. Blush

Sure for average tip over it should be fine, but more because the split lane leads right into it if there is someone still down or bikes tangled like Detroit 250 main they may not be able to just flag people around it. Hope I'm wrong, red flags suck.

If I was on drugs and president of Daytonur I would split the gate and line up each side at the end of the straight away (no dirt) and have them meet in the middle with a split lane. Design the rest of the track around that shit. Create like a huge Lorocco's leap where you have to huck the part where they come together. Palabra.

And have both straightaways fast enough where you hit six gear pinned.

Maybe the tunnel will be larger than it appears on the map?

Hell yea - start em off staggered at the beginning of the corners where they have to complete the corner and come out of it hauling ass into the straight, then on the brakes hard to make the corner into the dirt. Now that is creativity! haha

Is the over/under something they take to the track, or does every venue have a setup for it like they do the dirt?

Yall act like guys are flying off the track in the lane AFTER the first turn. It doesn’t happen. this will be a nothing.

They are limited in what they can do at Daytona.  There was a podcast that RC talked about a lot of the restrictions there are. It's not as blank of a canvas as You would think.  Maybe somebody else will remember were RC talked about it and post a link.

Its wild all the things that impact the design that You would never think about. Other races that use the track , the stuff that is buried under the grass. After hearing what he said I could see why the tracks are so similar each year.

I hope its not a mud race, and that everybody gets through the race without any injuries. I just had a couple customers come in today that are on their way down as I type this. Some for the Am day, some just to ride practice tracks and watch the SX.

A few years ago Daytona added a bunch of underground sprinklers and piping for them throughout the infield. Because of this track design has been limited in recent years to work around them as they cant run equipment over the lines or put jumps over the lines or heads.

Yes, that's what I hope for - for it to be a wider than the 'normal' Tunnel.

As riders will still be quite packed together after the start, going into what is generally, a quite narrow bit of track, with walls either side. But, whether or not they stump up for another 'span' to the tunnel / bridge jump, well, that may put them over budget.......... Whistling

They bring it. It will be the same size as usual.

It doesn't look too super dangerous but i agree completely its pretty stupid because everyone will be single file before going into the tunnel. Rest of the track will have passing opportunities though

The over under doesn’t concern me, but the second corner sux. It’ll be one lined and may effectively eliminate some of the early moves you normally see in the first half a lap.

No idea who's packing what or where 😂

But the bloke has been around and raced/races plenty, he's not a whiney casual fan without a clue.

I see both sides of it, but I guess we'll see when the gate drops. Hope it goes smoothly, don't need any more races going down the shitter due to unfortunate starting incidents.

The Over/Under should always be done so there is no straight line run at the under part.

You should always turn into it , and when they didnt do that, Coty Schock nailed that MF and was lucky to get away with it .

As it stands, the first time these guys do it for real will be in the second Qualy, and by then it will be to late.

Lets 'hope' it is ok then.

I have been a riders rep in the past and had to deal with shit like this.  Its always 'it will be fine' until it isnt, then everyone looks at everyone else wondering what happened.

It seems like people open up track maps specifically to look for something to bitch about. I'm willing to lay odds that not a single racer stands in front of the over/under on track walk wringing their hands about it.

The best part is no one ever offers a better solution. Daytona may look like it has lots of room but there are a ton of restrictions.

Why does it need a bridge at all. ?  It isnt needed for access. ?

Compared to a stadium floor its a huge area, ni need to even have it, it means pretty much nobody in the stands will see turn 2 either.

I would challenge anyone to come up with a worse idea.

It’s just as wide going into the tunnel as any other straightway after first turn.

So we now blow up a talking point that really has no merit when logic is used. However, it is a Mx forum so that seems logical also.

Because the week after we lose the Red Plate from landing on concrete, we are going to send 20 guys , through a fucking hole in a wall 10 seconds after the gate drops.

And Weege is a journalist, its his job.

Landing on concrete isn’t why Austin lost the red plate.
