I’m guessing that’s a tx/ tc? What have you done suspension wise?

Yes 22 tx300 with fc450 tank. 19 inch wheel and suspension is the same tx/tc so it was just revalved by KB5 for moto. Also the ecu was reprogrammed by two stroke performance and I'm running their high compression head. Also I've currently switched to a pro circuit exhaust system to tame the beast some. The fmf was to much too soon. PC spreads power out and gives some over Rev. Definitely the fastest bike I've ever owned and that's an 86 cr500 behind it still short rod setup.

Nice! Yeah they go well don’t they the 300s, tx’s are really hard to come by over here.  Looks like the perfect in between bike with the electric start and Moto suspension.

I kind of wish Yamaha would do something crazy with their 2 strokes. Fuel injection, mapping capabilities, reversed motor and same chassis as the 4 strokes.

You left off the option for : ✔️ BOTH !

C’mon!!? It’s a 2-stroke dirt bike!!? How can they NOT both be more fun than you can stand!!? I am fortunate enough to have a 2005 YZ250 that is well sorted and perfectly eligible for vintage stuff AND a 2023 SX300 that is just RIDICULOUSLY good in every conceivable way!
I would venture to say that IF you can get hold of either one, a clean properly setup older 2-stroke, DO IT…if you can get hold of a new FI / E-start 2-stroke, DO IT!
IF you are unable to revel in the glorious sound, smell & thrill, having more fun than you can stand while riding your dirt bike, maybe golf or bowling or ??? should be your new favorite pastime!!? Haha 🤪

In all seriousness, get whatever you can find or afford and just go have fun!
Dirt bikes RULE!!! 😎 👍❗️

(4-strokes are fun too! ALL dirt bikes are cool!)

I have all three.  RM,CR and new gen Austrian fuel injected.   All awesome.   My new MC250 is the best stock 250 I’ve ever had but it certainly does not obsolete my 08 RM or my CR.

Just my 2 cents -

If you’re hard on equipment don’t rebuild an old bike to ride every weekend, it’s too pricy to keep these old 2strokes going..

Buy a new one and beat it up and find parts easy when you need them.

On the flip side if you only ride once in a while and are easy on equipment I would probably buy the nicest low hour RM or CR you can find and enjoy it.

Pretty much said exactly what I would of said. And I'm in the same boat. 2 newer Husky's and my 06' RM 250 ( which still needs to be put back together).  I'm not sold on the new EFI 2 stroke MX bikes. I like my carbed bikes , and the power delivery I can get from them. But to each his own.

I may get flack for this but I didn’t care for the 17-22 ktm 2 stroke platform one bit.  The engines were all bottom and no top compared to a good running Japanese bike.  Not for me.

But My 24 MC runs like a ported and polished 00-01 Cr250 that is jetted to perfection.
It’s Amazing really.  Super smooth with good hit and rips on top.

Don’t be afraid of the new fuel injected 2strokes Jeffro!  If you like the idea of a perfectly jetted 2 stroke then they are right up your alley.  I only have 6 hours on mine now so the durability test hasn’t been passed yet.   IMG 8378 2

Nice! I am intrigued by the tbi bikes.  I, like rod, have been running a tpi semi converted, 19 husky.  But dying to have a go on one of the new ones.  Turning 40 next year so hoping to buy myself a birthday present!

Give me a carb and a kickstarter any day of the week.    ...and make it a 500 while your at it.

Screw all the tech crap that you have to fiddle with constantly....

IMG 5656 2I see you’re a 250 guy. I would only go with the cr250.  1 cr will out last 4 rm,s. The big GH 2-st race that was a stock bore cr250 Surrat,s bike the rest where 300,s.  The cr250 is a fast bike modded.  The cr250 has a worxs feel to it the cr125 also.  I know a co that made the complete pv setup for cr,s.  Long process to release the parts. Rumor that another co is making main shafts & cases.  Not lookin for attention for having a unique bike . But I hear it every time at the track what yr is that , those cr125,s always looked good, etc. that’s kinda neat & ya think about it . It’s a orety cool feeling riding an old 20 yr old bike fast.   I think the 04 cr125 or know it has the best chassis & it feels soo good your comfortable rt away.  I didn’t ride for 12+ yrs bikes stolen . I never walked the track & jumped everything the 1st lap. I usually do 4-5 lap heaters & haven’t been passed in 2 yrs. I see young riders trying to run me down , I just step it up a notch or 2. New 125,s & 250f so old bikes r competitive. I wouldn’t be killing myself doing 1099 yo race if otherwise. Only 1 ride with a fc revalve the rest with a 4 hr bike totally stock suspension. The oil is from when the bike was new. I bought it  from Mn. Where it’s far below zero . That has to be bad on suspension oil. The forks bottomed hard a couple times , I just locked in to get real smooth.

Hey Pro. When you say the CR will last longer, do you mean the engine in general? Or is there a specific part? I’m always curious about vintage bikes.

I,m talking the whole bike is built with better parts even the bolts r a higher grade and last forever. 90,s to 07 Honda had strict endurance testing. If a part didn’t hold up even if it was better . They did not use it.  Super picky the 95 cr250 had a linkage that worked great on square holes& chop. But it left tire marks on the rear fender so it was scrapped.  The main thing is trans they last forever. Case seals r a much higher quantity part. Everything really. My 20 yr old 04,s feel tighter than a 2 hr 92- 01 rm 125.

I've got a '94 CR250 sitting here in the shop and is super fun to ride on the right track.  Suspension sucks and the brakes barely slow it down though.  The engine is way better than my '24 250XC.  It hasn't been ridden in about two years though as I am afraid to break it and not be able to source a part.  Wanting to do a restore/build but keep thinking making my mondern yz125 dialed is the better place to burn the cash.

My upgraded 200SX is too fun and the '06 chassis and YZ front end is butta'. It parked my '22 YZ250F. It turns better, is nearly as stable and is faster with the STIC Super X carb.

I wanted a '23 MC250 for light weight and simplicity, but a stupid deal on a '24 300SX fell in my lap. Low hours and $3k in mods to make her right.

The 300 power is linear everywhere and feels like a magnet holds it to the ground, unlike a YZ250. It feels nimble, zero vibes and turns on a dime in flat turns. An Ohlins spring fork leg is helping the latter. Bonus is that my body doesn't get worked.  The 200 makes my arms ache for days...YAT

Flawed poll as it doesn't include the best 2 stroke in the "old" option.  Why no YZ250?

YZ250s > 2005 have the SSS suspension and are so close to the current YZs that a solid 2006 is hard to beat.

I pretty much lost interest in Honda 2 strokes after the 1997s came out.

RM250s are awesome but get marked down a bit due to the clutch being on the weak side. Good suspension but not quite as good as the 2006 and after YZs.

Anyone on here  do micro polishing on trans ? Or know of a reasonable priced co. Thx.  And case matching & trenching ?  I hv a Hinson basket but I don’t hv the inner hub of pressure plate.  How much do you think I,m giving up .  I keep momentum up but hammer the clutch hard .  And more powerful brakes , 4-5 lap heaters & my brakes r faded bad. Moto  stuff didn’t hv anything in stock. What’s another great system Gafer or braking. Thx

Hey Pro. Call Motostuff and, ask to be put on a waiting list. I run a 280mm disc on my 01 CR 250. It’s helped a lot and, has way more stopping power than any other over sized disc I’ve used. Plus the modulation is very predictable.  It’ll be worth the wait.

I sent you a PM  regarding a 04 CR 125 I’m putting together. Check your box. Thanks

A year and a half ago, I sold my 06 RM250 and bought a GasGas EC250.  I wasn't racing moto but was racing Sprint Enduros and practicing at the moto track.  My feeling is that the RM was slightly better at the track even after getting the TSP head and remap (worth every penny IMO).  Offroad, there is no comparison, the GasGas is way better.  The engine is so smooth and it can chug down low especially in map2 or, it can rev out and hop something and hammer an uphill.  All that being said, I bought a 23 450 for the track and am enjoying that too.

I can’t say anything about two stroke Honda, never had one.  Same for modern Austrian 2 strokes.  I will say this.  I had a mid 80’s YZ250 that was a pretty good scooter for the time, 1984 if I recall.  It was way easier to ride than the Beta 300 RX in my garage as it came from the factory.  Suspension wasn’t as good but still pretty good.  Had a much easier power band to deal with.  I’ve posted, commented on it before.  I’m of the opinion the tests on the Beta 300 RX downplayed the hit in Sunshine mode.  Hits like a freight train, if they hadn’t nobody would have bought one lol.  Many if not most 300 RX are bought for off-road not MX.  Much easier to deal with off-road than on a MX track.  I had to neuter my 300 RX with different PV springs and still will pull front wheel at will.  I’m of the opinion anybody that can throw a leg over Beta 300 RX and wick it up in sunshine mode is highly skilled that’s all I have to say.  A lot of us older guys have neutered 300 RX’s some guys remove the inner PV spring.  Once I got my RX power and manageable it’s like riding a Cadillac.

With all that said, I’d bet a late model YZ250 with a heavy flywheel would be fun too.

Ok Thx.  There’s nothing available for my bike if I enter my bike yr & model. But if ya click on clearance a 270 mm blade v1 shows up. So that’s Great.   Other upgrade is a 07 master cylinder. I might b wrong on the yr & it might b for a 4-st. It’s on here somewhere the mastercylinder . Cr upgrading brakes.   I don’t see a pm.  Kinda a sick rt now, could b from mon I did 6 hrs of ice bathing . 5-10 min in towel off get body heated up & soak again. I found a micro polishing co that’s reasonable 262.50 for trans shift forks etc should b included. NEGP New England gear polishing.  Other r 405.00 + .
