No need to worry.  Just saw this from a local shop.  Seems Kawi has this well under control.

Huge respect to kawi. Had a huge issue with my last bike and was taken care of no questions asked. They treat their customers well.

Not sure if all you guys remember but this isn't the first time Kawasaki had issues with a new model. There was a recall on the '19 or '20 (I forget) 250's for an engine issue related to valve springs breaking. The '21 250's broke clutch plates. The '19+ 450's had fuel pump recalls. I understand these things happen but it sure seems like they happen more often to green bikes. I was really trying to talk myself into one but this is tough. Maybe it's not a big deal, who knows?

To Brent, I had a friend who had a low hour '21 KX 250 that broke a clutch plate and destroyed the engine. Took the bike back to his dealer and Kawasaki paid for all the replacement parts but he was responsible for the labor. Just an FYI.

I mean KTM just had a recall on cranks & then didn’t even have the supply to fix the cranks that were recalled. I know bikes that sat at dealers for 6-8 months.

They did. I’m not singling Kawasaki out. I’m glad to see them being proactive. I suppose I’m gun shy to buy because I’m one of those guys who had a KTM crank go bad. Not a recall but my ‘22 had a rod issue. In reality it wasn’t even KTM’s fault, it was Pankl’s. But in the end they made it right at no cost to me. I just hope Kawi is doing the same.

Before and after frame repair pictures. Yes it’s an industrial grade epoxy and they paint over it. It has to cure for 24 hrs before u can ride. We will see how it holds up. My dealer claims it’s a vibration issue that could potentially crack the weld. The epoxy is supposed to help dampen the vibration. IMG 7414 0

Looks good but to me seems like a subpar fix. Id rather wait to see if the weld holds up. If it cracks under the epoxy you would never see it.

I can't imagine that weld ever cracking...

Is it the exhaust mount or subframe mount there? If it’s the exhaust that would explain the weld cracking.

That's an example from the TB of a crack vs no crack.

Definitely the subframe. Picture of my frame before I dropped it off Friday. I will know tomorrow morning what's happening. 20240201 194429

Here is some test data from a list of popular epoxy/puddy brands. Pretty impressive, I'm thinking if it's applied correctly, and the surface area is prepped well, we should be good to go! I'm hoping for no crack, It's killing me knowing I may have to let someone else strip my 7 day old bike down into 300 pices to replace the frame, then have to checkScreenshot 20240204 011315 YouTube.jpg?VersionId=vZaL04FWBqq3 every nut and bolt when I get it home. OCD lol

Hi all guys, I'm writing to you from Italy, I'm following this discussion since this bike will arrive in a few days.

does this crack appear on both sides of the frame?

Isn't it safer to have the affected area welded?

even if it replaces the frame, what would change in that area? I don't think it would come with the resin

Im in Europe aswell and my dealer said that the bike was delayed due to some recall a few weeks ago.

Does everyone get a recall or is it a few batches of frames they found this on?

They also told me about delivery delays due to recalls, in fact it hasn't arrived yet.

maybe in America there are problems because they are always the ones that are delivered first

Agreed! It would be way safer to have it welded but the majority of authorized shops either don't have access to a welder or don't know how to weld. I know the kawi engineers are smarter than I am about this epoxy but I am going to wait it out to see if this is a fix. Again if it moves and cracks under the epoxy you would never see it. In my opinion that is worse then taking it to a welder to fix later on if it does happen to crack.

Someone asked earlier and I can confirm that the Works Connection radiator braces and skid plate from the 19 fit on the 24.   The skid plate just needs a 3/16 elongation of the two rear bolt holes to slot them toward the rear.  Braces are exactly the same except that it requires one less bolt.

IMG 2576 0.jpeg?VersionId=doMoPzR09QrnJLyk xsniThis is only one spot, almost every weld is either undercut, cracked, or not burnt in. Already was back to the dealer after 2 days for a clutch issue, back again it pops into gear and sounds like it’s going to self destruct, frame recall came out so I looked at it…. Way more than the one spot they mention in the recall. 24 450 anniversary brought it home 1/20 and I’m glad I didn’t take it to the track today because I wouldnt be here to share…..Mind blown, epoxy patch ???? I own a fabrication company and Tig weld for a living, I really can’t see how these are machine welds.

I think the thread should be about the KX450 alone, not the X.

Same bike, only difference is 18” rear and softer suspension settings
