From Racerx obs
This year I’ve heard there have been some changes to try to improve safety and get the riders to round 17 of the series. There are mandated track changes like no dragon-back obstacles and whoop sections will max out at nine whoops (not including the starter whoop). Whoops will not only by a bulldozer, not a loader.
I’m not sure this will work but hey, maybe? We do have a huge problem with millions of dollars in salaries sitting on the sidelines almost every other year. For those of you wondering what’s the difference, generally speaking loader whoops are steeper and tougher than ‘dozer whoops but then again dozer whoops, if not built right, can be faster and therefore more stuff can go wrong when you do crash.
THEY DON'T MAKE EM LIKE THEY USED TOOOOOOooooo
Did the add a Huntah Line?
I want to know how they came to the number 9... why not 10 or 12 etc?
Bums me out also, because we will never see anything like this again (start at 48:00min)
We already know about Hunter Lawrence sheanigans in San Francisco, but do you have to bring the Lawrence brothers in every single comment you make? For a guy that always complains about Feld and the NBC broadcast always showing Jett and Hunter, you do the exact same thing in almost every thread.

You mad bro?
Or they could just make the obstacles gnarly while still keeping things relatively safe by allotting enough tine to retouch whoops midway through the night and removing ALL dangerous ruts on jump faces, which is what the top pros actually racing have asked for. I realize Dirt Wurx does the best they can with the latter, but they simply don't have enough equipment on the track to perform the proper amount of maintenance throughout the night show (matter of budget, not a knock on Dirt Wurx's performance).
22-bike gates and insanely powerful 4 strokes rip up tracks at a much faster rate than before. So, the tracks will still get rutty and nasty - but likely not to a dangerous degree if the appropriate amount of maintenance is performed throughout the night.
Agreed I’ve often thought with the decades of experience they have they must be able to come up with some kind of dirt mixture they could use specifically on jump faces that lessens chances of ruts.
Perhaps the 9 whoop limit rule is indicative that they do plan on touching them up ? Quicker to re touch 9 than say 12 / 14 or whatever .
minimum 41 woops and put everyone on 500's
Yes.... yes, I do. It's my mission in life now.
The number 9 is believed to represent completeness, balance, and perfection
interesting, id love to know how many injuries are whoops related, and specifically 10+ whoops related.
Get rid of dragons backs, they've done plenty of damage and dont add much to the race, but start messing with whoops, and youre changing the sport.
This weeks track looks like a boring arenacross track. Probably 40 sec lap times.
I say flood half of it and make it interesting.
Soft move
damn - finally someone using their brain! ;-)
i suppose 9 number is so they can triplex3 through them if necessary. lame, regardless. the dragonback was a sketchy obstacle. was watching an old vid of RC and MC and they had a dragonsback....that damn thing made me flinch every time they hit it.
So stupid. The dragon's back is one of the most exciting obstacles in Supercross.
I blame Chris Betts.
They should put a minimum of 3 whoop sections on every track if they are only gonna be 9 long
Is this why they took out the dragon's back at A1?
I miss the long whoop sections like San Diego 2012. And the large whoops of 2000 Anaheim 2, that DV says were the biggest ever.
I say let them give it a try, if it keeps riders safer and the racing improves, we will see if it's the right move.
If we have a full outdoor field all the better.
Pit Row
Whoops could be longer, even much longer on occasion (I agree on the 41
), but I am also not a big fan of dragon's back unless it is just at the exit of a slow section. A bit like one of the big fight between JS7 and Reed around 09, fun, technical, but a fast dragon back is really sketchy I think (i.e. Forkner in 18?).
Mud and sand makes tracks safer.....
They both get my vote.
Both dumb moves. 9 whoops isnt a great whoop section. It was barley enough to be considered a section to begin with for pros.
Most track when they build a learning section it's a set up whoop or not then 5-6 whoops. When we built our section we did as someone mentioned above 9 so that we could blitz one side and triple the other side so we could get as much use out of it as possible.
The dragons back just needs to be used intelligently. Every track that has a planned Dback should have a back up plan should the dirt be to soft to make it as safe as a dangerous sport can make it. Keep it far away from sand sections, build as early in the build as possible to be able to keep packing it in as the day goes on. Design it to where theres less chance you miss the last whoop as thats been most of the reasons for the big endos. These riders aren't stupid ask them what needs to be fixed to keep it safe during the day.
Detroit track map has 12 continuous whoops, not 9. Maybe they'll change for the show? I wonder if that had anything to do with the significant track changes they made for A2.
They are continuously dumbing down the track. Pretty soon we will have all the racers within 1 second of each other every lap
At what point are fans coming to races to see the carnage created by some of these obstacles. How many top guys had their season cut short last year? Tracks don't need to be dangerous to be exciting and racey.
Make the tracks interesting and safer. These week-in-week-out practiced cookie cutter whoops/rhythm gymnastics sections are played out. Dragon-backs are lame and dangerous.
9 whoops is nothing, I remember Stewart jumped a set of 9 in a single leap. Didn't he 6/5 a set at night on his 125?
I see where they’re coming from, but restricting it to 9 whoops basically eliminates another passing opportunity on the track. Some riders may still be faster through them than others, but it’s not long enough to complete a pass.
Webb’s championship stocks just went up.
Lame sauce
Oh yeah, Webb is rubbing his hands together as we speak.
would yall rather have a finale like we did last year or no dragons back? Use ur brain.
This world is too bubble wrapped. They need to bring back jumps like the whoop jump at 2003 Pontiac. That thing was the craziest jump I've ever seen and it was still just a short double by itself. But you had to blitz the whoops good enough to just hit the wall at the end and launch you over it.
