A lot.

You will get some fancy parts and a front fender that doubles as a snow shovel, though.

^ this 100%. It will require some crazy 10hr Desmo service ever 20hrs. They are extremely proud of their machines. No chance it is on par with other current bikes.

Probably starting around $12-$13 like a KTM FE 450 and go up from there for the special editions.

Like others have said though, they need to reconsider the color. I love ducati red but people spending $14+ on a bike like this will not want it to blend into the sea of red out there of hondas, Gas Gas and even Stark.

A brand new OEM enters the market, one with one of the longest histories of success in motorcycles, and you think people won’t buy it because it’s red? The color most synonymous with Ducati? Are you good?

It will be “if you have to ask you can’t afford it” pricing  😂

I’m more curious how much replacement parts will be.

If this bike is higher priced, and gives superior performance, it will start a revolution that will kill the sport for the average Joe.

4 strokes and now Vark Farg has already seen to that....

Whatever it costs, I’m expecting they’ll do an actual ‘factory’ edition with something crazy like A-kit, premium wheels, significant engine tuning and some factory parts. They regularly will sell a sport bike at 3-4x the price of the base model, just in limited quantities. If Ducati thinks they can sell 40 units of $35,000 dirtbikes they absolutely will bring them to market.

Long time  Ducati guy here. Still own a 1995 900 Supersport that I bought new in college. Yeah I'm old.

Anyway Ducatis have always been blood red, sometimes  cannery yellow or white and occasionally black.

So those colors will not stand out among the current crop of MX bikes.

The real looker is the red, white  and green Tri-Clore special edition so I hope to see that offered with this bike at some point.

That would be cool, but I doubt it, as Tri Color livery have been mostly reserved for the first year production highest level sport bike. With some exceptions, but that was generally the rule. Ie, when the new superbike comes out, as it does every 4-6 years, the first “special” version is always the Tri Color.  And then they release an R version, etc.

Or maybe more like 400 $35 000 bikes Woohoo

Serious question though, is there a price cap in the AMA homologation rules or is it just about numbers of bikes available on US soil (200 by March 1st and 400 by June 1st)?

For instance in FIM World Superbikes, homologation rules are : homologation for road use in US, EU or Asia, evidence of production quantities, market availability and sales to the public, 125 bikes produced at the date of the homologation visit, 250 bikes on the 31st of December of the intended first year racing, 500 bikes by 31st of December of following year.

Price cap, including taxes, is 44 000 €, which is about twice the price of standard superbikes. The point of this price cap is to prevent factories like Ducati homologating their $100 000 special editions (of which all 500 bikes sell out real quick).

For now, Ducati can race prototypes in Italy in 2024 and MXGP in 2025, with up to 3 MXGP wildcards in 2024 if they're happy with the bike.

I think the big question is how eager will their dealers be to carry a line of premium dirtbikes?

Probably more eager than Husqvarna dealers were to sell Ducati street bikes when Cagiva bought Husky back in the 80s and told US dealers to buy up or get out.

They wouldn’t need to homologate if they kept the frame and engine cases. The count would go toward the base model homologation numbers. As long as 400 units with the same frame and engine cases are available to the customer, they’re in the clear. It’s the same model in different trim rather than distinct models.

I could see Ducati’s production numbers being something like 250 base units, 100 ‘S’ models and 50 ‘Race’ edition or whatever.

It looks like they announced the price of 12,990 Euros ($13,617).

That would be 500€ more than 450 SXF but cheaper than FE.

Under $14k wasn't even an option in the poll (edit: sure it was), it would be a reasonable price in the context of Ducati premium pricing. And I would expect them to sell wagons of the more expensive limited editions to come.

It’s on the poll and sits at 3rd place

Kinda right where I expected it to be. Ducati is a premium brand and its price will reflect that lining and the lifestyle of Ducati owners.

What's the moto version of only riding your Panigale to starbucks?

Here in San Diego, that would mean loading your shiny new Ducati into your lifted F-250, driving out to Pala (Fox Raceway), hanging out in the pavilion, and then putting in a solid five laps on the Vet track.

That is most likely the price for the home (Italian) market.

It will be more in the USA, wouldn't surprise me to see MSRP of $14k or more, plus add on dealer fees.

Generally speaking Ducati comes at a 30% higher premium to the market prices.

Usually it goes the other way, you guys in the US get cheaper euro bikes than in Europe! MSRP are typically much lower in the US than direct conversion from € to $ would suggest.

Triumph 450 Euro (France) price: 11 795 € ($12 345) / US price $10 995 (-$1 350)

KTM 450 SXF: 12 449 € ($13 025) / US price $11 299 (-$1 726)

Stark Varg: 11 999 € ($12 560) / US price $10 999 (-$1 561)

How much is the Beta 450?

Interesting, and good point.

Beta 450RX 9 990 € ($10 460) / US price $10 999 (+$539)

Beta does not follow pricing policies from large manufacturers like KTM and Triumph offering discounted US prices. It could be more difficult for them to apply since they don't ship large volumes like KTM does, could also just be their own policy?

I still believe than Ducati would go more like KTM towards cheaper US prices to drive volume sales but we'll know when they reveal their official prices, maybe in a couple of months.

Edit: looking at what Ducati does for its road bikes, its flagship Panigale V4 is 27 990 € ($29 300), US price is $25 995 (-$3 305), that's 11% discount for the US.
