Jett’s “Rookie Debut”

Because there are too many kitchens for cooks to cook in these days.

Good for him to pick up on that.

Even if Jett does not win another SX race this year he still would have a great rookie season. I believe that he will win a few more for sure. There are a lot of factory riders that have had very successful careers and never won a single SX race.

Don’t bet against the kid, he’s going to win more than a few more. 
regardless if you’re onboard with him or tired of hearing about him, he has a special talent.  

Been watching the sport for 20 years and it's been like this since I started watching, they hype up their best prospects or most marketable riders, the reason being is they want to give info/sell the sport to new coming fans, they already have the faithful fans, even if their were 22 Jett's out there racing the same track old fans will still tune in.

Point being that it must be confusing for the more casual viewer that Jett is both a rookie and the defending champion  

Would we be having this discussion if he went 450 at the beginning of sx last season? Like would we still be saying he went 22-0 as a 450 mx rookie? Yes

So it's only confusing cos he didn't race the calendar year and went 450 mid/between the series.

I’m taking a coworker who is brand new to SX to San Diego. I’m gonna have to explain all of this bullshit to him and I’ll report back about how easy it was for a new fan to understand… 

Even I don’t understand it. If SMX is one long series like they’re saying it is, and Jett raced it last year, how is he a rookie this year. How is it that he has the reigning champ background for the same series he’s racing now, but he’s a rookie? Is it one long series or not? It makes no sense, it’s over complicating things and creating confusing semantics for no reason. All as an attempt to be more mainstream, meanwhile Ricky is on the broadcast going on about fucking wheelbarrows. Give me a break…

Coz it's multiple series. Just like how do u explain chase is sx champion. If he didn't win smx?

I feel like a new viewer wouldn't have a clue. "Here's your defending 450 SMX champion, JETT LAWRENCE" "The first rider to win his debut 450 race, JETT LAWRENCE!"

And his debut race four years after he became pro.....

There are 3 series with champions.
He’s only a rookie in Sx. 
He’s a veteran and champion of MX and SMX.

So what did you tell him about Prada, the defending MXGP Champion in his Rookie debut SX race?

Rookie in sx, not in outdoors or smx. Hope that clears things up for you.

Read my post again! It is obvious you think I am a Jett hater. The kid is an awesome rider and is great for our sport. 

It is a bit silly to count Jett as winning his debut, but not Grant or Roczen. They did 1 or 2 races the previous year on the 450. Jett did 28. So … yeah.

There are 3 different pieces to the SMX pizza. 2 are large pieces and 1 is a small piece. Last year He won 2 of the 3 pieces and is now trying to win last year’s missing piece. 

I said the same thing. Can't really call him a 450 rookie when he's been riding a 450 for 2 years of Des Nations and now an entire MX Championship..

But still NEVER on a supercross track...

Define a SuperMotocross track?? pretty sure its 80% supercross..

But is still a "rookie" pizza eater, even though he fully devoured 2/3rds of a pizza last year.

How dense are people? Was it not his 1st monster energy 450 supercross race? Prado is world champ but that was his debut. Smx is not sx, Mx is not sx. Grant had a race on 450 sx so his win at A1 was not his debut. It’s going to be unbearable in here until the Lawrence bros retire.

Its a hybrid track SX/MX mix. But it's still not AMA Supercross, so in that case he is a rookie.

Scream it into the ether man. You would think after the race Jett himself was like "suck my dick mfers I just won the first sx I ever lined up for!" They're hyping the sports next big star. Shocker 

Let's face it....the rainbow colors on the number plates don't  help either.   Purple, red, yellow.....and hey, throw in the lame green leader lights too. 

Just the night show itself is as confusingly pointless as all of this is too if you zoom out.

3 hour night show where 2.5 hrs of it has “races” that the winner of really doesn’t matter. The last 30 minutes are the only races out of the 3 hours of races that even matter.

so all night long you’re watching people win races and then if they do poorly in the last race none of that mattered.

I hear you but I think a lot of people are seeing the common path for riders is to start 450's in Supercross but Jett went to 450's in MX and raced 2/3rd of what now is called the SMX season.  So think people are questioning his status as a "450 rookie" considering he's already raced 2 of the 3 components of SMX on a 450.  He is a rookie in 450 SX only this year, and so they are saying Jett won his first race as a rookie SX rider at A1 and this is a true statement.  

With that said, the same could said about Grant.  Technically, just like Jett, Grant also won his first race at A1 in his 450 rookie season debut.  Grant had previously raced a one-off 450 race as a 250 rider at a time when he was not signed up as a full time 450 rider.  That might have been Grants first 450sx race as a 250 rider, but it was not his first 450sx race at A1 as a 450 rookie.  Grant won his first race at A1 as a 450 rookie.  Grant lost his first race on a 450 as a 250 rider.

They aren’t claiming this is his 450 debut. 
He won his 450 AMA SUPERCROSS debut which is true. He is a rookie to the 450 AMA supercross series. (But a veteran of the SMX series which supercross is a part of? Confusing)

just goes to show how dumb this SMX name is. Make it its own 3 race series or change the name. It makes it extremely confusing for new viewers or casual fans who watch supercross once a year trying to comprehend a series within a series and advertising a rookie that’s already a premier class champion. 
 

Cancel SMX. Bring back the US Open at the MGM Grand. That was a fun one.
