It is mostly luck, otherwise you would have the same riders ending up in the same place pretty much in every muddrace as you do in a normal race. It is impossible to be consistent.
Anderson going over the front at a start straight, you see that happening often? Smoking clutch In 2 laps? McElrath 4th? You put that to skills and not luck? You think he would do it again if he got 5 more tries?
Luck is about not having another riders falling across the track in front of you. Not getting mud or a stone caught in the chain. Your gate and rut not being filled with things you can't see. Not having the throttle or anything else brake for a small tip over that pretty much every rider had.
I didn't watch either. I checked the results the next day.
Maybe for a super muddy race like that only reward 1/2 pts or something. It absolutely wrecks the 250 guys champ hopes if they have a bad night
In that kind of quagmire, starts are absolutely priority. Look at Sexton. He was over a bike length ahead of everybody else going into the first corner, and it was enough to get him over the finish line first. Mud is the great equalizer for sure.

Lol. Who determines the mud. Factor. Keep the points the same. Its the same track for everybody.
Any race that they have to shorten, shorten the points too. Easy
Fingers crossed we don't have a repeat of the SF race in the remaining 10, open air stadium races!
I think they should get gold stars and, participation trophy’s that day instead of points. Nobody’s left out and, everybody wins.
50% chance of rain in San Diego
Though there's only a 10% chance of that .
What about shortening a race for extreme heat? Anytime they shorten a race it is because there is something making it more difficult. Only time I might think awarding less points might be a good idea , is if You do not have a full gate in the heats and main. Fewer racers making it easier to get points. A mud race , or extreme heat or cold ad to the skill needed to finish.Yes its different from a dry race in many ways. And there can be bad luck that results in a DNF. But a skilled mud rider will also know how to keep the bike going in that mud. But I challenge you to find a rider who thinks it was easier. And reducing the points for a race that is more difficult is crazy. Everybody who races knows there is the chance of a Mud race.
The Privateers that are going out and destroying their bikes , might even have a better chance at scoring a better finish. Look at some of the great finishes from mud races. Dowd and Henry at Hangtown. I'm not able to remember his name right now but there was a privateer that got a 3rd at Daytona in the 450 class on a Honda. I'm sure there are many others who were great mud riders and just like a more technical track will award some riders, the mud awards them with better finishes.
I am a Jett fan, and bummed that he did so badly. But everybody had to ride the same track. Mud is a part of MX and SX. While I do like dry races better. I think its great that You can buy a ticket to a Pro race and not have to worry if it will be moved or canceled. I'm sure there are people who look forward to going to their local SX/MX all year. And they can plan on going , knowing that only the most extreme weather or global pandemic will cause it not to happen. With other forms of racing that are canceled or moved, You might end up buying a ticket and not getting to go after it gets postponed. Many tickets will say they are non refundable too.
A mudder every now and then? Yep, let's do it. It's another challenge that they have to be ready for. Every week? Please no.

Some of the old guys in here might remember the CMC Madera mud race in 1979...
The problem with having SF this early in the schedule is that logistically it makes sense to have as many west coast races as feasible in a row with A1 being the start of the season
Driving from one coast to the other side then back again doesn’t help any of the people associated with putting on a great show. From the drivers to Dirt Works and even the riders themselves.
...and here I thought it was only So Cal that suffered from Rain Freakout. A light mist and people lose what little driving ability they may have had.
Exactly. Or double the points on a perfect track. Lol
I'd love to see a Pro not follow protocol, and where the standard trash bag to "save the gear". It would look so normal for us mortal racers. To see a Factory guy racing looking like a weekend warrior would be funny once.
I get the feeling you’ve raced in that kind of muck…
Pit Row
The off-camber turn on the shoreline was like riding a trials section.
10% chance does not fit that clown gators agenda.
I think a lot of the soy boys in here need to visit A1 2005. They were launching the triples while it was pouring in the Main event. But the Heat races were awesome to watch. They actually blitzed the whoops too, not cut them down..
I liked watching the race. It shakes up the points and separates the men from the boys. Some of guys had great attitudes and it showed in their results.
If the promoters wanted to avoid these, just eliminate the open air stadiums and allow places like Minneapolis host more consecutively instead of intermittent years...
Before or after Seattle could work?
I'm not a fan of watching the race but I do think it's a good way to mix up the race results and add some parody to the season as a whole. That said, they can mitigate the number of mud races based on how they pick locations. All sounds easy in practice but booking those stadiums and the logistics involved has to be an absolute nightmare. I design and book the tradeshows for the company I work for, that alone is stressful. I can't imagine mixing in all of what takes for an event like this.
SX tracks get muddy in a totally unique way. The dirt is all the same from top to bottom so its nothing like the dirt in the real world. In actual dirt once you get past that first foot of dirt its a bit more dense so the ruts can get really deep but they actually have some structure and support to them. Plus its built on a totally flat surface so water cant drain.
The General GNCC was really bad this year but if you compare the two one looks much more rideable. Granted the GNCC had 500 guys racing the track for 3 hours so it was still brutal but looks more "rideable"
All the PTA moms on Vital 😂
Lol
Also Monster Jam does not stop because of the rain
I personally like watching the best riders in the world have to ride my speed for a bit 😂😂
Post a reply to: SX should not race in mud like THAT.
