Agreed on both points:

1.  Anaheim is especially bad at blaring music.   I would bring ear-plugs for this very reason.   

2. The green leader lights are not for the real fans, it's for the idiots they're trying to attract to the sport.   It makes every leader look like they're riding a Kawi.

After watching some other videos of the race. Where you can hear the track announcing. Holy crap it sounded way to loud.

I'd consider myself a "real fan" and I like the leader lights for the live race.  There is so much to watch sometimes it's nice to have a que to quickly pick up where the leaders are. 

I'd agree it was wayy to loud this year tho.  

Based on this thread, it sounds like ML512 needs to make a call to Weege and tell them to turn down the volume a bit before they drive fans away from attending.  If our hardcore fans don't like it imagine the horrible experience for new fans or first timers who are trying to learn the ropes:

Most of the domes I've been in you can't hear the announcing at all over the bikes. 

Leader lights are good for kids and women, which is good for the sport. You have to pick a color most are taken by manufacturers, green for go, wonder if they used red/green leds so it can switch to red in the event of a red flag.

I’ve been watching SX for over 20 years (I’m 34) and attending them since 2009 and I have to say that the leader light is actually pretty nice. It’s very chaotic out there in the main and the lights make it that much easier to find the leader. It doesn’t take away from the experience at all

I enjoyed watching the leader lights in the one heat where the leaders were swapping places ( I think it was 250) and thinking about the person in charge who was trying to keep up with the different lead changes from turn to turn.  Also, I noticed one of the green lights went out on one of the bikes so there was only one side lit up, I forget who it was.  

Agree. When you are at the race, it is helpful. There were a lot of times during the night where I was watching Prado, Eli, the Vohland/Kitchen battle, etc… then wanted to find Hampshire or Jett and could do so instantly. 

Feel like I'm in the minority but sometimes I take eyes off leader during the race to watch mid pack battles and it's much easier to look around again and find the leader with the light on.

Sitting with the wife at A-1 and during the race she ask, “who’s winning”, my reply “the guy with the green lights”.  So I’m good with the leader green lights, BUT, the lights on the kawi’s need to be red.  

I went to Las Vegas SX in 2016.  (When it rained)  The volume of the speakers was so loud it was nearly intolerable. 

I went to a couple Anaheim SX's a couple years ago, and don't remember any troubles.

I went to a Rams game at SoFi stadium last month, and the speakers were crazy loud.  And also just so much stuff going on the big screen that it was a slight distraction from the game.

Leader lights are good when you're actually at the race

Leader lights were a great addition imo. Obviously unnecessary for TV but at the track, you can watch whatever battles mid pack then quickly find the leader again.

I get they want to make it “a show” but putting a DJ on their own pedestal and blaring music constantly isn’t necessary. This is supercross, not Coachella. 

I didn't like the leader light idea, but I can see the benefits for people in attendance and especially less 'core' fans, so I won't knock them.

Shitty music blaring sounds like a fail though. Some of that gimmicky stuff just isn't needed with something as badass and visceral as supercross.

Leader lights are great especially for "casual fans".  Increased purse for SMX is great and the new events that mean something instead of Monster Cup is even better.  Peacock coverage is awesome.  Announcing crew is great (mostly) and a massive improvement over just a few years ago.  New Teams are joining the game and great outside sponsors are likely around the corner.....also great.  

I have been to a dozen or so races in person and never been able to hear the announcers.  Are there things that can be improved.....always.  Credit where it is due.....we need more of that.

Were you there? If not, shut your pie hole. I spend almost every weekend at a track somewhere. I've been to numerous SX and National events. I worked Air Force flight line (F4s, 111s, 16s) for years. Hell, I saw Ozzy from center stage row 3 way back with Randy Rhodes - that shit was loud! But A1 was stupid, stupid loud at a whole nuther level. I could not hear my son from the seat next to me unless he yelled in my ear (section 330). Lurch was ridiculous. The music drowned out almost everything. You rarely heard a bike at all. Opening ceremonies were great. Light show before the Mains was cool. Pit access was easy and fast. There was good there but they blew it on the audio.

My experience in Denver over the last few years - I think the opening ceremonies could be so much better.  The way they do it now you don't know where the riders are coming from or where they are going to be.  They introduce Jason Anderson and he is somewhere in the stands, but you are like, where the F is he?  Then they introduce Eli Tomac and he is riding around the perimeter of the track and you can't even see the top of his helmet.  Feld needs to bring out each rider on the start straight and they do a wheelie and something cool and then ride part of the track and sit on a triple while everyone else gets introduced.  It's silly to be searching for the rider they are introducing.  Running them one by one down the start straight would be so much better.  And bigger numbers!

Feel like the leader lights would help for lappers too. Might get a glance of it coming before getting blue flagged. First usually gets the worst end when going through lappers so maybe it'll help even it out. 

Possibly the only thing that would be tolerated being played that loud at a Supercross:

Supercross OR Motocross does NOT NEED a fkn DJ anywhere near the venue. Completely wrong crowd for it. We're there for the bike sounds. I was beyond annoyed at Nashville SX last year with the lame DJ, and at Anaheim this weekend it was 10X worse. Also, Lerch needs to stop yelling all night, I couldn't even hear what the Ladies name was on the podium accepting an award for Mickey Thompson because he yelled it like she being introduced for a UFC fight. Its very small things they can change to make it way better.

Dear field.  I feel like I’ve been watching the same track every week for the last three years.  Exact same obstacles and 59 second laps times just in a slightly rearranged order.  The tracks are like Suzukis and “bold new graphics”.

I would agree some unique obstacles and different jump sizes would mix things up.  Like a mogul section and other new things to slow things down a bit.  Also frustrating they change things like the jump Jett did on press day etc.  Those jump lines separate the highest level guys and showcase talent.

I got 2 different survey asks from Feld today and I hammered the audio in both. The only other gripe I had was rider introductions - it took us 10 seconds to figure out where the rider was! Crowd, start, outside lane? Poorly done.

Yeah, being at A1, the announcing was pretty obnoxious. Lurch was screaming at the top of his lungs, like it was a WWE match. Same thing with the broadcast, I think Diffey thinks he needs to scream all the time for some reason.
 

As far as the lights go yes, us hard-core fans can spot the leader pretty quickly, but for the rest of the crowd I think it’s a good idea help them spot who’s coming around if they’re not familiar with all of the riders and numbers.

I feel like this was how opening ceremonies was always done, until around 5 (hell I'm getting old, maybe even 10 years ago or more). I miss the single-rider introduction from the split-door-podium-looking area, and the top 2 or 3 riders doing a hot lap.

The first year of freestone had a similar issue with the PA system, it was so GD loud it made me had a headache with 10 minutes of being there.
