So far I only have about 4 hours on the 24. It feels more stable at high speed, but also feels a bit more rigid. (Apparently takes 10 hours to break chassis in)
the new 350 motor in the 24 is way better for sure.
both are great bikes and I’ll be keeping the 22 for this whole season and riding both so I will get back to ya this summer after more seat time
How do you like the braktec clutch and brakes on the ‘24 compared to the brembos?
Definitely not as bad as the reviews make them sound. The brembo clutch on the 22 has a very minimally lighter pull. But I can only notice it if pulling them both side by side on the stand. It’s still a very nice clutch feel on the 24, but the 22 is a slight bit easier.
the brakes I almost prefer the brakteck as they don’t seem to have the on/off feel of the brembos and I fell like I can be more aggressive with them, they almost feel more progressive.
i have locked up the front brembos a few times on dry rough ground, and I feel like that wouldn’t happen with the braktech. But I still need more seat time on the 24 to tell for sure.
At first I was contemplating swapping all the brembo stuff over to the 24 now I’m not so sure it’s worth the time.
If you end up wanting to swap to a Brembo caliper and master cylinder, I've got a new take-off set with extras (carbon fiber shield, new ARC Powerlever lever, etc.). Just an option.

Totally agree with your thoughts here. The clutch pull is a bit stiffer on the braktec but not enough to notice while riding. Braktec gets a bad wrap but they’re essentially a Brembo clone and not bad at all. The biggest pain imo is finding aftermarket levers and the bolt on factory hand guards. Hopefully that stuff comes around though.
There is also this issue with the Braketec rear caliper. Was anything ever done to address this? A good few of them were breaking like this.
Whoa - THE BRACKET TOTALLY FAILED? Did this lead to a crash?

Looks to be a giant casting flaw/void --- seems like a recall matter to me. Is that how it was handled?
It is the casting of the caliper itself that breaks. That portion with the caliper appears to just be a little too thin. It looks like sometimes when it lets go it takes the bracket with it. I have not heard of a recall or anything at all being done to address this.

This stuff always cracks me up. So someone has something break on their bike and it’s now prevalent on all of them? I broke a rear hub and dirt tricks sprocket a few months ago. So now I post pictures of it and say Dubya and dirt tricks have a manufacturing problem?
If Dubya and Dirt Tricks components came stock on your bike, sure, the criticism would be warranted. Not apples to apples there…
Having ridden both the Brembo and Braktec designs extensively and back-to-back, I find those sticking up for the Braktec pieces rather intriguing: I particularly HATE the Braktec feel and lack of stopping power, but then again I’m a big front brake guy. Multiple “updates” later, they’re still simply not as good as the Brembo standard, in my opinion. They’re bad enough to dissuade me from getting a GasGas MC over an SX-F or FC, as a map switch is a much easier update than both brake systems as well as the clutch…
It doesn’t matter if it’s stock or aftermarket. My point is that stuff breaks. It doesn’t mean it’s an epidemic. I may actually switch to the SXF next bike as well. Has more to do with the crappy GG contingency not the brakes. 😂
Damn, my bad. Never said "epidemic". Also never said "prevalent". I said "a good few" and then proceeded to post, literally, a few examples of the exact issue. Sorry if you somehow read that the wrong way. Anyway, yes, there have been more with this exact same "issue". Sorry, but I consider multiple OEM brake calipers failing in the same manner to be an "issue". Can't say that has ever occurred on any other OEM calipers in the history of dirt bikes that I am aware of. Does, that mean "every" one will fail? Of course not. Still something to be aware of.
All good and I do get what you’re saying. I went into my GG 350 expecting to swap out the Braktec stuff, however for the grand or so I’d have into it, I didn’t feel it was worth it. So far so good for me. Time will tell.
Broke in my new 24 350, installed my trusty 2017 Conevalve forks, taller Evo Pro Tapers, spare wheels with beater tires. Took it kind of easy for 2 15 minute sessions. Rechecked sag, adjusted. Put another hour on it. I have a 23 300SX, so I am familiar with the chassis on these new bikes, but I am pretty comfortable already on this bike, that is what I like about the 350”s. I will put a few more hrs on her before I install my new Twisted Vortex, but the engine feels great stock.
Sorry, I just saw this message. I'll look you up next time I see you out at Motoland. Definitely interested in the possibility of getting a 350 for my next bike. Yes, I'm about 205-210 lbs, but not worried about it. Thanks for the offer and I'll come see you next time I spot you there.
Wow, that’s interesting but at least they found the issue. There’s nothing more frustrating than intermittent electrical issues and you loose trust in the bike.
The more interesting part of the story is, the problem came back like 40 engine hrs later, turned out to be a bad EcU from Vortex….which they replaced under warranty…
Did you trade it🤣.
I just saw your post/picture of the 24 how is it?Im still on the 22 and was wondering does the 24 really have more of the bottom?
Pit Row
I only have 1.5 hrs on the 24, it does not obsolete the 22 by any means. KTM went to a 52 rear on the 24, it was 51 on the 22, that gearing change will add low end thrust, I tried the 52 on my 22 & after installing the Vortex, went back to 51. I loved my 21 & 22 350”s, put well over 100hrs on both with no major issues. Sold my 22 to a good friend for cheap, like I almost always do.
Thanks for the honest feedback. The media guys said it was a huge difference but I also get there getting bikes for free and might put a nice spin on testing.Do you still have your 89 CR250?Keep everyone updated on the 24 it helps. Thanks
Funny, MxA no mention of the rear sprocket gearing change on the 23-24 350SFX 😂. Rode & raced the 89CR250 last spring…. Ride on
the 89 Cr forks and then tell me Aer forks suck….
Awesome you kept it,motors are so strong great ergos. My god those forks, shut off the throttle and hang on for your life🤣🤣. I still have a few CRs to rebuild.
Here is a picture of my 2017 Husky FC 350
Fun bike
Lots of power
Really like the 80s retro Husky graphics look we did
Sold it off , Guess im a 250F guy after all ...
Nice looking bike. Did you cut down the seat foam, or does someone offer a lower foam? Short legs here, need all the help I can get!
Thank you. Contact guts racing, they have a few low foam options. The seat might be one of the best mods I bought.
Looking for thoughts from a former 2-stroke guy who has tried the 350.
I grew up on 2-strokes racing in the 70s/80s. Later had a 250F circa 2009. Really disliked that bike. The engine inertia, ugh. Had a CR250R and RM125 after. I have an itch to get back to MX after doing street track stuff on an R6 the last 6 years and the 350 is appealing to me. I've narrowed down to a YZ250 or 350 SX F. I read how folks equate the 350 as closer to a 2-stroke but find they tend to be guys who typically ride 450Fs. I would like the opinion of someone who truly switched from 2t to a 350. I would just get a 125 but I am considering some vet racing. Thoughts?
Sounds like you’d be better served by a beta or ktm 300 2 stroke. Smooth 2 stroke, luggable, and you’re a self proclaimed 2 stroke guy so why not?
I ride both my 2006 KX250 and had a 21 350 SXF and coming off an injury I will be purchasing a 25 350SXF. The 350 is still a four stroke and won’t be anything like a two stroke. The comparison in my opinion is that in order to ride the 350 efficiently you have the ability to carry more speed than a 450 into and through the corners and get on the throttle harder and earlier than the 450. It does not have the monster low end torque of the 450, the motor is more manageable and won’t wear you out like the 450. In regards to handling there is something to be said about rotating mass and inertia affecting the ability to change direction so the 350 does feel lighter and you can carve under a 450 easily or change lines in the corners easier. I personally don’t see myself ever going back to a 450 and will never sell my KX 250 either!
Hope that made some sense
Thanks. I am sure the newer 4ts are much improved over the 250F I had, just trying to get a sense for how far they have come. Your description is helpful. There are advantages to a 4t, but in the 2010 time frame I felt the disadvantages far outweighed any advantages for me. Perhaps bike advancements and my age advancements will merge.
YZ133rider: I have no solid reason for not considering the KTM 300. Guess I just lean YZ250 if I go the 2t route. Save some coin, known quantity, the 250 is "enough", ...etc. 300 is a valid option for sure.
I recently came off 10 years of 2 stroke 250s and got a 23 350. I didn’t think the fun factor would be there, but I do far more track days than i ever did on my 250s. The bike is a blast, it makes great torque still so you can ride a gear high, or ride a gear low and wind it out. I still have my 250s and plan to ride them, but the 350 has been getting my attention the last 9 months.
