Crazy how this is the only thread where every single post from page 1 on was posted "less than a minute ago".

Following Round 3 of the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, in Anaheim, CA, Stewart continued to experience severe pain in the wrist. Although previous x-rays had not indicated there was a break, an MRI performed yesterday and reviewed by medical experts today, revealed the bone was broken. Surgery was performed immediately by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Arthur Ting, of Fremont, CA and was completed without incidence.

As a result of the surgery, Stewart will not be competing in San Francisco this weekend. His return to the race track will depend on how quickly he is able to recover post-surgery and will be evaluated and determined on a weekly basis. “James is a true champion. The fact that he rode as competitively as he did making the podium at Anaheim 2 with a broken wrist (unknowingly) is testimony to that. He's anxious to heal and get back on the race track as soon as possible,” said Larry Brooks, Team Manager.

Sucks. Guess it shows how tough James really is after racing Anaheim.

Did anyone read that medical description of the scaphoid? It is a low blood flow area of the wrist and can take up to six months to heal or longer if complications arise. I know a wrist injury is what derailed RJ's career. Hopefully JS has a full recovery (not just so he can rush back out to the track)

I broke my right scaphoid when I was a healthy 28 year old. I didn't have surgery but had a cast for 10 weeks in total. They cut the cast off after 6 and 8 weeks and x-rayed but it still hadn't healed. It is a difficult bone to diagnose, and repair naturally. I guess if James had surgery then it's been pinned to enable him to get back to riding quicker.

I had complications with nacrosis and non union, it took 9 months to see any noticable bone growth and over 1 year full recovery! This is the same injury rick johnson had and ended his career.... Hope he heals up quick, would still like to see Dungey and Hill give it a go with James 100%.
back in 01 i broke both my left and right scaphoids.. the surgery is getting much better so the healing process is way more dependable. Today I still ride, (not as fast as stewart) but never notice it while I'm out there. The screws they place in the bone seem to do the job. Hope it works well for him.

Stewarts contract is up with L&M at the end of this season, so I am sure that he wants to get back out there ASAP. Scaffoid breaks are so individual that it is nearly impossible to predict his return. He has access to the best people and the latest procedures, along with some of the most advanced healing "accessories" in the world. Have you ever wondered how the worlds best can get back to it so much faster than everyone else?
Everyone seems to forget how young he still is, even for this sport. I'm sure he was ready for racing and now this setback will only make him hungry!

I tell my dad that James had surgery and is out for the foreseeable future. My mom, who doesn't follow the sport very much at all, but knows enough about Bubba to make the bold prediction, says; "why, was he losing.?"

True story. I got a bit of a chuckle out of that one.

Hopefully SNOOP will chime in on this topic as he broke his on June 10, 1990 and IMO was never really the same rider after that. How do I remember this date? I broke mine the same day..lol.

Back then they liked to let them heal naturally and it was a LONG time off the bike. Now they just pin it or put a screw in and its 6 weeks to heal.

Random scaphoid trivia: they used to sometimes refer to the bone as the NAVICULAR, but mostly stopped that a few years back because there is a navicular also in the foot.

Listen up wang vomit. Don't you think if he was going to lie he would so say surgery. He's going to have a scar! Also, I broke the same bone 3 times (different wrists) clean breaks. Cast six weeks which turns your arm into a stick with no muscle. So, hopefully it will be 6 weeks plus two to get his grip back.

You gotta be there to break the record. I never thought Stewart would do it. My first reason is injuries, McGrath was freakishly lucky in his career. The second is just time. I think Stewart will be gone car racing before he can double his current win total.
