Looking at new helmets for next year. What would you go with if your budget was $300ish dollars and why.

For $300 I would look at last years models, preferably with mips. You can find some really good deals if you shop around. Find a good quality one that fits well, TLD should have something in that range, you may even be able to find a fly or alpinestars around that price
Also, I just received a tld se5 carbon. I paid $400 on eBay
I just bought a SE5 carbon I found an open box deal on ebay but while scouring for deals I found some pretty good ones. Some of the composite ones on amazon for half off retail. The TLD helmets fit me great but no matter what you get id advise to find a closeout deal of older colors rather than a $300 retail helmet. The Fly Formula CC can be had on sale for good deals as well.

Moto 9 mips was $159 at BTO. Motorcycle close outs has many helmets under $300. Chap has the formula CP for $75.
i just bought the moto 9 because it seemed like a great deal but I was also strongly considering the formula CC or carbon.

RMATV has closeout Fly Formula CC on sale for $200 (orig $500), or Carbon Prime for $280 (orig $700). I just picked up the prime.
Sweet Azz Troy Lee D! Just like i did already. Great helmet!

I got my Fly Formula CC for about $350 on eBay, I’ve been really happy with it. Fit is great, super lightweight and the safety features are pretty impressive.
I scored a hell of a deal on mine, like it more than my SE4 just seems to fit my head shape perfectly and great venting.
The Bell BTO was a deal. I thought about buying one
I don't know why anyone would buy a helmet that doesn't have the ECE 22.06 rating.
Alpinestars SM5, latest Fox V1, Leatt 7.5, LS2 Subverter Evo II, Shot Core and Shot Furious models all retail for under $300.
All ECE 22.06 models I am aware of are listed in this post:

Best deal around. Motosport has them as well.
I’d get as much SE4 or even SE5 as I could get for $300.
Definitely one of the higher end helmets from last season. I tend to buy a high end helmet that's one or two seasons out of date (but brand new always) and I don't think I've ever spent more that £250. I'm a big fan of MIPS and magnetic visors.
I’ll give somone a new bell moto 9 and a set of fox instincts along with about 3 sets of fox gear for nothing. All new… you just have to pick it up in Huntington Beach. My wife’s yelling at me about space. I just ordered myself some new gear for 2024 and I honestly need the room.
I've got an LS2 Subverter...I really like it, fits my head well, is light...fortunately I've never had to actually test it out (knock on wood)...I like the look of it (I realize it does seem to have a love/hate affect on the looks though)...my only complaint is that the visor has holes is it, and that's an issue riding into the sun sometimes.
Donate it to someone at the track you think needs it.
Prob the one that fit the best
Ya I normally would just hand it over to a buddy in need or to someone deserving at the track but I’ve been riding alone here in Southern California just putting in laps and training and I don’t really know anyone. I ride Perris mostly and Elsinore or fox.

Ya problem is I’m 6”2 and size 12 boot as well. Can’t just drop them to some kid at the track. Anyway it’s free to whoever wants to get it.
After a few fox helmets I went with a ProGrip helmet. I tried every helmet at my local amx store and didn't really have a budget. It fit me the best and the quality seems great. Was on the lower end of the price scale too..
I’d get a used 6-D that hasn’t taken a big hit. The paint will tell the story. May have to pay a few more bucks.
ONEAL. Comfortable and great quality. Last forever.
I was able to snag a sm10 off amazon for $350. Just do some digging, there are really good deals on the higher end helmets in the $300 range.
I agree on the Bell Moto 9 with mips. Hard to go wrong with Bell been around since helmets started. I got lucky and got one with a Tagger Design paint job for $160.
The LS2 Subverter is an awesome helmet. Several people were wearing them at the Mini O's event and they were an event sponsor.
They own the manufacturing plant so no 3rd party or reselling. You are buying a high quality helmet for 1/2 the price.
Bobs Cycle Supply normally has great deals.
Good Luck!
If you crashed in the helmet it did it's job.
Throw it away and buy a new one.
I've used a Bell MX-9 mips that I got for a great deal (don't remember how much). bought it because it fit great, had mips, was a reputable brand, and was cheap. No complaints.
