Magoofan I know you are a passionate person and I appreciate that but IMO it's not realistic.

But at the same time (and while never personally affected yet) I am frustrated by laws that give the perps the literal slap on the wrist we are all tired of hearing about.

Eg...The Aussie state I live in is continuously raising the legal age of criminal responsibility...14 years old in 2027 will be the age if I'm correct.  Will be mayhem day and night.

Sorry not a topic that I'm a fan of but posted anyway.

Gerg....I respect your view.       However, we are no longer living in a civilized society.    Whatever civility we have is a very thin façade.     Something drastic needs to be done.

Civility is situational, and not as widespread as it once was. When good people allow themselves to be victimized, civility disappears. See San Francisco as an example. When good people show willingness to fight back, civility grows.

Our current leadership (the last 30 years worth) is taking advantage of the situation, not making any real effort to fix it. ‘Never let a crisis go unused” seems to be the mindset, and now that they’ve figured out how to easily grow division and mayhem, they become somewhat untouchable.

This sue happy society doesn't help, because the more people have to lose, the less they'll want to interfere. It'd be hard not to pop one of those grab-and-run dudes from the store in the face, but it's virtually guaranteed to cost you a few grand in legal fees on the low end, and the sky's the limit on the high end. Not to mention the fact that the dirtball is going to have your name through any legal proceeding, and can probably find your address if he wants to, maybe even your place of work for you and your family. None of those potential problems are worth a very gratifying pop to the face, so having any type of self-policing society evaporates, or is left to people with nothing to lose. We're stuck.

So twenty three years of being a fuck head. Nah. He’s had enough chances. No mercy. He’s got the same 24 hours in his day to utilize not being a thief just like everyone else. Soft on crime is not the answer. Again, actions have consequences. Three felonies your ass is done. Why is anyone entitled to more chances than that? Barbaric? Yeah. Do I care? Nope.

Physically mutilating a human over theft of material does not make any sense.  A human body doesn’t have a net worth.  Sure there should be consequences that are monetary or losing property or something to that degree, but no.  This is deranged

I had 3 bikes stolen in 2021, so I have perspective as a victim of theft.  Do I wish I could get my bikes back and a settlement on top of that? Yes.  Do I want the people who did it to have their hands cut off? Fuck no.  That’s disgusting to value property higher than human life, and likely the train of thought that’s led us to a place where people steal the way they do.

“A human body does not have a net worth”

Tell that to osha lol.

Maybe there is another way?

It stopped those people from committing more crime. So, in fact it did stop some crime.

Crazy thing is….  This stuff has happened for years. It’s very rare, yes.  But now with the power of the internet and the ability to make news travel with a click, it’s just making more aware.

I have all kinds of memories of crazy stuff happening at races back in the day,  but back then it wasn’t sharable to the masses in seconds.

That's not to say thievery isn't bad...it's reached epidemic levels in this country.   Partly due to near zero consequences for it anymore.

As I always say in these threads....start cutting off hands and it'll come to a very quick end.

Some of you are missing the point....Crime rises when there is no punishment.  And yes when a thief loses his hand, or both hands, the chances of him stealing again are low.

Simple fix: the U.S. needs to go back to "street justice."  Eye for an eye.

Way too many softies in Govt Office and on this board, which is why this country is being shoved down to 2nd world status quickly.

And yes, my $5k gear bag from hard earned honest labor is worth more than some dishonest scum bag's hand (s).

You make it sound like it’s ok to ‘steal from the rich…’

gtfo

i had my sons $7000 bike stolen two months ago…if you think it doesn’t effect me just because I was able to replace it then dang stay far away from me…

the emotional part of being violated, the idea that someone was on my property where my loved ones sleep, having to explain to my sons that they were still ‘safe’ in their own home…it effects people more than you know.

this family should be banned from top to bottom. The kid knew he wasn’t 4-6 yrs old while riding in those classes…he knew…you can’t tell me he didn’t…so his parents are creating a monster…

no place for any of them. Sorry.

100% accurate man. The personal impact of this shit can be life lasting. The violation of personal property and sense of security is the biggest part of it. Having your 5 year old ask you with tears in her eyes “what if the bad guys come back and try to take me?” isn’t something to take lightly. Label me a barbarian for wanting to inflict physical pain on these perpetrators and it’s a label I’ll wear proudly.

A little off topic but Gatorback theft related -- I'm thinking about going there in January for a vintage race. Not sure if I will camp or stay at a hotel nearby. I seem to remember hearing about bikes being stolen there another time in the not-too-distant past. Has this been an issue other than this guy? I was also considering renting a U-Haul trailer and staying in a hotel - are there hotel areas (Alachuca or Gainesville) that people prefer where they feel okay parking a U Haul overnight? (Assuming it is also locked and preferably backed up to something like a wall or light pole!)

Hard Rock Stolen Bikes

Got descriptions of the motorcycles but no descriptions of the "unknown males".  This is one of the problems with the media reports of crime.  No approximate height, hair color, etc...  You can't tell me the victims were unable to provide at least some description of the 2 guys that held a gun on them.  Afraid to offend someone.

As far as the POS in Gainesville, I'd leave his hands on.  He'd need them for the days of public shaming while standing in the pillory at the next race.  Or two.  In the meantime, he would be working on a chain gang and all of his prison earnings would go directly to the victims of his crime.

Keep yer chin up or you'll miss all the good that DOES still exist.  The world and the people in it are the same as they've ever been.

Man, I wish more people would see it this way plowboy.

I work in an industry that puts me in situations where I interact with all kinds of people that I'm sure have completely different social and political viewpoints that I do. From guys that load & drive trucks, to the CEO's of the companies that employ them. I've found nothing but respect and support for each other during our time working together to create successful events. Hell, I even just found out that the CEO of Bazooka brands was at the same Metallica show I was during the Master of Puppets tour. We all have lot in common & this "us vs them" is all bullshit

The news shows a lot of anger. Thankfully most of us are too busy working together & getting along just fine.

Sorry for clogging our moto board with personal stuff, but that's just the viewpoint from where I'm sitting.

And yet the crime rates were a hell of a lot higher than today, It took the odd criminal off the street which was just replaced with another.

It makes people feel good that revenge is being committed but it doesn't actually solve the problem.

I value my morning dump more than the lives of thieves, rapists, pedos, and murderers. If we brought back public executions in town square, you’d have a very polite society. Instead we’ve turned soft and worry about the perpetrators feelings instead of getting retribution for the victims.

I wouldn't trust the current Justice system in a million years manage that. Think about it.

It's funny how people generalize with a single word of "California". What you're talking about is what you'd find in certain parts of LA and SF, which total around 150 square miles. And even then, street poo is a fraction of that. Then there's the other 150,000 square miles of California, which don't really fall into the outsider's vision of "California", and we suffer the same exact same issues that others do.

What you're doing is like referencing Toronto for all of Ontario, which I'm sure you know is absurd. Plus, you're in Canada, so I don't expect you to have respect for our constitution, but for those that do, cutting off people's hands for theft is what idiots do in shithole countries, and we aspire for something better than that here, where we don't let our hate for criminals turn us into criminals.

I also don't think barbarism is the solution, but liberal policies of letting people get away with theft under a certain value with ZERO consequences isn't the solution...  You are going in the wrong direction for sure.  Do I want more prisons?  Not really, but the punishments need to increase, not decrease for crimes committed.  And if that means more places to lock up, then let's get them built.

That's SF, fifty square miles. It makes up 0.03% of California. The only poo I might step in around here is from bear, or deer. And to be fair, bear poo probably looks a lot like hobo poo to the uninformed, so I can see how it would be confusing. We don't even have typical homeless people out here. The only "homeless" people we have are a few crusty old dudes that gold pan and camp. And they don't ask for anything except maybe a ride into town if you happen to be driving by.

Totally agree on everything else. The policies trying to hug the crime out of people, simply does not work. It sucks that people have lost the ability to see any nuance. Either you must want to throw them in the wood chipper, or give them a hug and an iphone. I don't want either of those things, and apparently that's just too complex these days.

This is where your powerful politicians live, the ones that make the decisions for the entire state.  Not to mention the vast majority of your states population live in these places.  There are also some beautiful places in California, but they don't make the laws in those places...

Which is weird, because you'd think that the people that are immersed to it, would be the most against it. Stepping in hobo poo wouldn't make me want to hug the hobo. I'm unable to relate to that position.

Is ANYONE here who is against cutting hands off also suggesting zero consequences?

Jeez things always get taken to the utmost extreme on the internet......surely we can be AGAINST brutality but FOR punishment?

Joking aside....
I feel bad for the kid. His father was supposed to set a positive example. He failed and, the kid is going to suffer because of his father for a very long time. Hopefully, some of the kids and, parents realize it wasn’t this kids fault.

Regarding the father, karma will catch up with him. I had an 87 CR 125 stolen that my grandfather bought me as a high school graduation gift. It was my pride and, joy.

I knew the person who took my bike.
I also knew his family, friends. People I knew since kindergarten.
I let them know and, a week later, my bike was returned.

They turned their backs on him. A couple weeks later, he was shot several times. He tried jacking someone. He got the fuck around and, find out treatment.  I believe in karma. It might not happen right away. It will eventually happen.

Karma is going to have a field day with the pos father when it’s his time to pay the piper.

I would have a hard time watching someone just walk away with my property without taking any action. I have played it straight my entire life. I came from food stamps as a young kid to being fully self sufficient at 18. I made it by hard work and positive life choices. What the fuck gives some people the idea that they can just take the stuff I worked my ass off for?

I don't give a fuck what their excuse is. People that steal as a way of life need to be locked up and I don't care if they get beat, stabbed or turned out in prison. Their life choices put them there. They had to know it could happen sooner or later.

Fun fact....Cassandra Peterson (Elvira) is the biker babe in the bar scene.

The phone scene gets me every time.   We still have a land line with a retro wall phone which has a huge handset....  It's a running joke in our household..... "Shhhhh, I'm trying to use the phone!".

That’s awesome.  First time I ever took a girl to the movies, I was a 10 year old kid. We went to see Pee Wee’s Big Adventure.
Then we spent the afternoon in the arcade afterwards quoting the movie lol.
