Think about the title chase without james or reed?

Dungey takes james' place? and wins everything, and the title.
Villopoto takes reeds pace? and steals a few wins.
What about KEVIN WINDHAM? He's like 15 points out right?
Andrew Short?
Ivan Tedesco?

New champion?
Once and for all .... no team would allow a rider to go on the track with broken ribs. End of story. Assuming you could even ride with the pain, if You fall with broken ribs you could easily puncture a lung. And then you're in big trouble.

The title is up for grabs but James could certainly make up the points. His main competition - Reed - is out of the points and to assume one of the others could get consistent 2nds for the remainder of the series is up for debate.

When or if Reed comes back, it's more likely he would take points away from RV, RD, etc. than from JS.

that's it right there...banged up ribs (not broken) are a huge PITA and take forever to heal.

I talked to Larry after the race Saturday night, and he said it was always James' decision on whether he could continue or not.

Kudos to the guy for gutting it out. He looked a shell of his former self in the LCQ and in the main. I was so looking forward to watching him ride. I am kinda pissed at him for not allowing me to watch him work at 100%.

Ive got to think RC is telling Tedesco if he doesn't make a push now then he may not get another chance. He's got the experience, he said past sponsors had bailed on him, that is his motivation i'm assuming. RV, RD, Josh Hill are all young and will have their day, Im hoping Ivan can see the light and make a go for it!!

James has a funny history in terms of riding while injured. In '03 when he had that big digger at Vegas, he sat out 4 rounds of the outdoors with a broken collarbone (which shouldn't really take 6 weeks to heal) and if he'd come back one round sooner, he'd have won the title. Then, he really dug deep in '06 to come back from that Unadilla egg beater crash and rode Lakewood when he could barely move.

Some guys will ride with any kind of injury unless the bone is sticking out, other guys will sit out with pretty minor stuff. James has done both in the past.

I'm sure you're right about RC grilling him. I would love to see KW,IT and AS step up and go after the kids (RD RV JH) of the class. It's funny that's those 3 guys were 3-4-and 5 years old when KW raced his first national.

Two things :

1.) If they were actually broken or cracked....he wouldn't be able to ride.

2.) If the cartilage was separated from the bones , which is just as painful as breaking them , he could ride , but would be in intense pain!

Separated cartilage is something a lot of people over look. they think " oh......his ribs aren't actualy broken......why doesn't he race?"

Truth be told.....if that cartilage is separated , he is going to need some sort of pain meds or whatever to even think about riding. And it still takes about 3-4 weeks for it to re-attach itself to the bone. And riding and racing with it.....would take even longer!

Broken ribs : forget it....no friggin way he is riding.

Separated cartilage : he could ride....but in extreme pain.

Severely bruised : Still ride , but probably extremely painful.

Cracked ribs : one good wreck and now you are out for 4-6 weeks!

If he has been cleared to ride , it's either the 2nd or 3rd thing i listed above. But just because you have been cleared , doesn't mean you should be back on the bike. Just because you don't have anything actually broken.....doesn't mean you are even physically able to race at that level.

I would have to say these guys are giving it 100% right now and are just not able to beat them. I hope they do find that little extra and make a series out of it, would only make for more excitement.

But I think they are already giving it their all.

This was on the CYCLE NEWS site:
Rumors have been swirling that San Manuel Yamaha's James Stewart, the defending AMA Supercross Champion, might have to skip round three of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series due to injuries he suffered during his heat race last weekend at Phoenix. According to a source close to the team, however, the rumors are false. As of now, Stewart is expected to race. But James will skip tomorrow's scheduled press conference at Angel Stadium.

Stewart crashed hard in his heat race when he landed on Kyle Partridge over a jump and went down heavily and had to be helped off the track with what was later revealed to be a "jammed" shoulder and wrist. (Partridge was not seriously injured.) Stewart still came back and won the LCQ, making it into the main event, where he would later tangle with Chad Reed and finish 15th.

Stewart is reported to be quite sore from the crash, and he has opted to stay home in Florida an extra day and skip the Thursday press conference in order to continue with his physical therapy. He is expected to arrive in California Friday night.

Stewart's 15th-place finish at Phoenix combined with his opening-round victory at Anaheim I has Stewart in seventh place in the series points standings, 16 points behind leader Ryan Dungey.

He will go out in first practice and test it out, then he will make a judgement call from there. I bet we see him race his heat and make the main easily, not sure he will race for the lead but he will pick up points. Thats just my opinion.

Might even see Reed do the same thing, will be interesting to see what he says tonight.

More pressure on JS to get back out there now that he is SX only .... and defending champ. I imagine Yami would be pretty happy ( $$$ ) to see their new bike take the title first time out as well.

Key word is "more likely".

Assuming everyone is healthy and back to normal speed, I think Reed would be favored over RV or RD - or any of the rest, excepting JS - most times out. So if JS wins and CR nabs 2nds ... he would actually be helping JS make up points by pushing the next closest guy down a notch.

Granted it doesn't appear so far that CR has completely adjusted to the green bike or the dunlops.

You're only as good as your last race. And let's face it, Neither of the "top dogs" had a good last race. History shows that Stewart and Reed are the fastest two but if you look at the beginning of this year (RD) and the end of last year (RV) then you see that the Ryan's are both capable and willing to run the pace at the front. Add in that we have never seen Chad look as good as he did on the Zook and maybe, just maybe Chad is the new fourth place guy. JMO

Suspended by AMA for crashing into people. RC,Preston......
I like James' speed but man he sure does land on people and crash a whole bunch.
I think I posted earlier if people thought Bubba would wad it up.
I didn't want to see it happen but he has a history and this is another example.

I'm sure the injury is from Reed sliding into him and NOT the 2 car pile up that he caused on the triple in the heat race. Whistling

From my experience with broken ribs, I find that hard to believe. I had trouble breathing for 4 weeks if I sat wrong. For the next 2 weeks anything took that upper body strength was almost paralysing. Bruised ribs are not broken ribs. Totally different. Sounds like you had some "bruised" ribs.

What I'm saying is, if Bubba doesn't race, that decision didn't come from LB.

Also, why does everybody think RD is going to be so dominant at such an early stage? He has had zero pressure on him until now. He's a rookie. His SX career has had flaws in the past. Give the kid some room for mistakes!

Thats easy Chris.... As of right now it looks like there are two other people that can run Dungey's speed.... RV and JS.

And who knows what kind of pressure Ryan feels. Just because he shouldnt win the series doesnt mean he doesnt think he can and should....?

Correction: You're only as good as your last SERIES. Winning single rounds is great .... but one bad result can kill your title chances.

In this case Reed has shown that over the course of a series - which is what they're racing - he has the speed and consistency to stay on the box and minimize bad results. Until this year at least.

RV has shown the speed but has yet to demonstrate the consistency over the course of a full series on a big bike. RD is obviously a complete question mark on a big bike. He has looked very good so far but there's a long way to go. The list of riders that have shown they can podium every round of the SX series is a pretty short one.

Anyhoo, I was just pointing out the irony that it's entirely possible Reed could end up actually helping JS take the title.

I don't believe that , but whatever. I have raced and ridden with bruised ribs ( among other things) But if your ribs are truly cracked or broken.......i don't see anyone trying to put themselves through that unless you were getting a lot of money to do it. I've broken my ribs more times than i can count , and every single friggin' time it's the same thing.......i struggle to even breathe , let alone race a bike. Breaking other bones or getting a fracture is something completely different with the plates and screws they can put in you today. Ribs are a different story.....they affect your breathing.

Here is a question : name one other rider that you know of , that actually competed with broken ribs. Maybe Bobby M will step in here , since he was racing back in the hey day of the "tough-guy" racing days.....and what he may say about riding with broken ribs.

Post a reply to: Hmm...a rumor I heard...
