what was your favorite track from back in the day? Mine is Burnt Hickory, If you ever raced there you know what I mean. Next to the old Winter Am in Florida Burnt Hickory ususally had the largest group of talent in the southeast. The old Wildcat creek and the old Road Atlanta tracks were also tops.

The old St. Pete national track was a fun one . Also, Cocoa was one the roughest tracks I can recall. Anyone ever race at the old Croom Mx track? Old school, but fun.

Elk Horn Wisc. Attended various Trans-AM's, Inter-Am's and raced there too. Great wooded track.

Road Atlanta

The first big race I saw was the 74 Trans-AMA at Road Atlanta. We headed up to the track about midnight the night before. 6 guys piled into a 72 Pontiac Grand Prix. Got there in the dead of night, but the place was packed and wild. When daylight broke it was foggy. Saw the paved track first, and thought that was the coolest thing I had ever seen until I saw the motocross track. Marty Smith won both motos of the support class, and Roger DeCoster ran Wolsink down from way back in one moto, and also won the other one. I remember Rich Eierstedt(sp?) threw his chain at the bottom of the hill near the starting line. Boy was he pissed. Pretty cool stuff for a 14 yr old. :D

Hey elsinore, the 74 Trans am was the first pro race I ever went to. The party that took place the night before was almost as impressive as the race. There must have been a 100 custom vans parked in a big circle and we raced mini bikes around them till about 3:00 am.
Last spring I went to RA for the Mitty race and found a poster for the inter am race in the pro shop. It was actually a picture of the support class start from 74 with Dennis Hall getting a great start behind Smith.

Rio Bravo and the old Cyclesports track near Conroe. I'm going to Rio tomorrow, my son just got his first "real" motocross bike. I hope Rio is still there when his son gets his first real motocross bike.

Is Al still running the place or did Chuck and Lynn take over again?

1.) Hall's Ranch, So. of San Jose, Cal. Long gone. I was a novice when I raced there, but I don't remember any flat ground on that course. All up or down or off-camber, even the pits were on a bit of a slope.

2.) Laguna Seca, The Winter-am track. I think only one race was ever held there. Tim Meyers put it on and I think he was running out of money then. Beautiful grassy hills and big oak trees, sort of a sandy loam soil, really fun.

3.) Sandhill Ranch, I loved the hill.

4.) The old Hangtown track in Plymouth. Lots "O" whoops.

5.) Carnegie Cycle Park, either of the old Inter-am or Trans-am tracks.

6.) Watsonville Fair Grounds. Tight corners and elevation changes.

7.) Santa Maria, Spillway Park. I have no idea if this track is still around. I love whooped out sand tracks and that’s all this track really had to offer. No hills at all, it was layed out in a river bed. The only time this track was smooth was about three laps of the first practice.[img][/img]

I rode that LA Coliseum track in 75 and it was incredible. they ran three qualifiers to make one main event. In my three qualifiers 125 pro I got two 3rds and my chain fell off and I got an 18th. didn't make the main. Back then the 125 elsinores had down pipes and the whoop section there flattened the bottom of the pipe

My fav local tracks back in the day were

valley cycle park in semi-valley

saddleback

indian dunes

heh - I remember having Dave Miller build a couple pipes for my RH. Killed the first one in practice and the second one in the first moto. Big panic trying to bang it open and tack it back together to make the 2nd moto
