Put a deposit on one at a dealership last Thursday.   Rode one on Sunday and I was blown away by everything about it. Immediately started thinking about racing Daytona and LL. Called Mxsports and they were clueless and referred me to the ama.   Not sure what the title of the guy I spoke with at the AMA but I do know he’s over amateur Mx.  The short of it he said it’s illegal to race in any Ama event , they have no idea on time frame.  He said if you Race a Stark at an ama event and hurt someone the track loses all ama backing and 100% open to an easily won lawsuit.   He did say he doesn’t ever see a future where electric and gas will race together unless they figure out a way to produce noise.  He did say they are monitoring whatever series in Europe that is allowing them to race

Super bummed to find that out.   Also glad I did before I dropped 14k at the dealership on one.

not sure if any of this has been discussed.

I'm a little dubious as to whether that is true or not, a friend of mine directly asked the local AMA director if he could race a Varg in a vet/open class and was given the green light, as they've already had Altas race.

Maybe some cheap Varg hitting the market?

HP needs to be treated with respect, some people have no respect!

It doesn’t have to do with it’s power plant, it has to do with it being allowed to race in a sanctioned event. Think of it like racing a 450 in the 250 class. If an accident happens, the track/AMA is liable and said injured human or parties involved can sue. This is to protect themselves from lawsuits and will eventually change as these become more popular. I’d imagine they will start with an e-bike class of some kind.

They wouldn't be any more liable than they already are unless you can prove that they're being negligent in allowing an electric bike which would be a tough task.

Agreed. I know Coombs was saying one of the biggest hurdles with these bikes is matching the electric power to gas if and when they decide to allow them to race together. I’m sure once Honda, Yamaha etc. release competing models to the Stark, all of this will happen pretty quickly.

If Honda, Yamaha etc. release electric motocross bikes with less than 80hp, there will be restrictions on power output.

Sorry if I came across wrong, I'm not poking fun at you moreso attempting to point out the stupidity in the current ama rule set/reasoning or lack thereof.

Ask the insurance companies that have decades of data on ICE bikes and are the ones who write the policies.

I know mate, I wanna see more and more Vargs out there, just like you.

At their current production rate they're matching Alta total 3 years production in just a couple of months, not too shabby.

But if 6000 bikes/year is not enough for you don't you worry, production is still ramping up and you will soon have a chance to get smoked by a Varg at your local track.

I would have thought, as you have mentioned, that the only class the Stark would fit into currently is "Open" or whatever similar class you have.

They certainly don't fit into the MX1, MX2, 250 , 450 class rules as these are for 2 stroke & 4 stroke engines with limits on capacity.

Local events may have Open, Vet etc. Classes where these would fit with the current rules, but I can't see that you can race one in a pro event that would normally be 450/250 rules.

Or any amateur event that was 250/450 classes

It's no different than if Stark made a 600cc 2 stroke and customers thought they could just race them in the 450 class, they would have to race in the Open class

Obviously they need to set limits for electrics to compete in MX2 (48 hp) and even MX1 (60 hp). The FFM is currently using the same restrictions. And it will be subject to changes because they are using these first races to see if there can be fair competition, which is great.

However that's really odd to limit electric bikes power in Open (60 hp), while allowing much bigger capacity than in MX1 for ICE (650cc 2 strokes and 4 strokes!).

Basically, so-called Open means for ICE pretty much anything goes, prototype and all, but for electrics you cannot race your production bike without restrictions.

It will depend which way the factories and the race promoters want to see the future go. Same reason 250 strokes can’t race the 250 class. Had that happened the 250 4 stroke wouldn’t have happened like it did. But the rules forced it.

To be fair , it has been explained more than once , that VIN numbers do not have to be sequential, and they do not have to start at zero, they only have to be unique to one bike.

A  955 vin number doesn't mean they have made 955 bikes , (although they probably have )

To be fair....if I remember correctly....VIN numbers entered the conversation when the mouth breathers who hate Stark because they hate change, ran out of shit to talk and demanded to know production numbers.

Meanwhile, these same homies are running to their KTM dealer as fast as possible to buy a new '24 while their '23 sits useless in a corner waiting on backordered parts Tongue

mixing silent bikes with very loud bikes on a track is a bad idea.  they need their own class.

My bike showed up today.   I had no idea it was coming but the driver called and said he would be there in 20 minutes.   I can't ride it right now; however, it is here!

To be fair , it has been explained more than once , that VIN numbers do not have to be sequential, and they do not have to start at zero, they only have to be unique to one bike.

A  955 vin number doesn't mean they have made 955 bikes , (although they probably have )

True, but what would a good reason be to make them not sequential?  Seems like making it seem like there were more bikes around would just make customers and dealers mad who did not have one yet. It just seems more likely that they are sequential.

I'm looking forward to seeing the OP post that his bike is in. And seeing what he thinks of it after having such a rough time getting it.

My bike showed up today.   I had no idea it was coming but the driver called and said he would be there in 20 minutes.   I can't ride it right now; however, it is here!

Happy for you Tahoe, hope you'll have a great time on it.
