AP, Craig, and Hampshire stood up when no one else would, and deserve respect for that, but our team was lapped.  5-18, 16-20 and 16-10 scores were not what was I think most expected.  Dean Ferris,  who retired, beat AP who is a factory racer.  He also beat Craig, who granted hasn't raced in a year but still clearly something is amiss with Team USA's efforts at the MXdN.

Hey i predicted that team usa would finish 9th. With the netherlands injury they finished 8th. Its good that the usa still finished ahead of third world countries

All three are factory riders. Great that they stepped up but damn, I thought they'd be a bit better than those results. I'll give Craig a mulligan as he has not raced for ages.

I'm sure the team, the riders and us fans are disappointed in the results today.

I was not thinking a overall win......but top ten moto scores would not be expecting too much?

Only 5pts points from 3rd after race 2. They needed that epic ride in the last race and just weren't able to make it happen with such a strong field.

The only thing embarrassing about the MXoN this year was how long it took and how difficult it was to even get a team together

Dungey would have been a good choice....

I’m glad we sent a team!  However,  our/their most important series starts in a couple months. I would bet they weren’t putting it all on the line and even if they did a podium was a stretch. 8th is an acceptable outcome given it looked like we weren’t going to send a team at all. Flame away!

At least the US did better than CanadaSad. I'm from Canada and our effort was even more embarrassing, and we sent our best guys!

Wasn’t good, and the addition of SMX doesn’t bode well for first-class Team USA efforts in the future.

At the end of the day it was a B team, and with the win well out of reach it looks like they mailed it in. No other country is going to judge USA's performance unless they actually send their best riders.

Sexton should have got married in France....paid for by the AMA...then throw in Deegan and the experienced Dungey. That would be a podium.Whistling

This thread is embarrassing. They wanted to go and I’m sure they tried their best. That’s the way it goes. But this shit happens every year. Beat the guys up that gave up their precious short off season to give it a go.

Representing your country to the best of your ability is never embarrassing

I said from the beginning a top 5 would be like a win. Everyone was bitching that we may not send a team, we sent the best team we possibly could. RJ did exactly what I expected being super fast, on the ground almost every time on the track but giving it his all. First moto for AP was better than I expected. Craig coming back from injury and not racing since SX finished about where I expected. We weren’t going to top 3 without a lot of luck on our end and a ton of bad luck for other countries. Our guys represented us and did what they could. Respect to all 3 of them.

Sadly though as long as the races are overseas, I don’t see our best 3 guys going. Only way our 3 best riders go is if it’s on home soil and we just need to accept that.

I don’t really consider bad luck and crashes to equal embarrassment. You guys will bounce back next year.

I don't think any of the three had the results they were looking for.

Are Team USA results what you thought they would be?

I'm a euro and must admit , in the pass I allways wanted the euros to beat the yanks , but I actually found myself routing for them today ,

They had the bollocks to step up and gave  it their best , nothing wrong with that

AP gained another fan , that's for sure

The OP did say Respect to these guys who stepped up when no one else wanted to go.

The best should attend out of pride but it must be difficult right after a long grueling US season. These guys only have a short few weeks before the SX grind starts. I can't blame them for not wanting to go. Their job that pays is in the USA.

If my boss asked me to travel overseas for work without pay when I should be on a holiday....I'm gonna tell him to find someone else. That's the reality.

Embarrassing would have been not sending a team as the defending champions.

Nope I figured top 5. However I don’t think them not achieving that makes it embarrassing.

You don’t get to say respect to the guys out of one side your mouth and the result is embarrassing out the other.

Of course this is Vital. Bitch and complain when we don't send a team, due to the fastest riders not wanting to do it. When we get a team together who wanted to do it and represent their country, we bitch and complain that they weren't top 5 overall. I'm glad they wanted to represent our country, no matter what. I'm not going to shit on them. Proud of y'all AP, CC, RJ!

I think they did what they could. They answered the call which meant the US sent a team. I applaud the riders for going when many others seem to be more interested in their own material gain from participating. Hats off to RJ, Craig and Plessinger! Thinks went bad for many countries, so they were not the only ones who had a tough time this weekend

To me what’s embarrassing is that our top guys don’t see a need to go.  This team did the best they could but it’s not a surprise to have finished where we did.  I had hoped for a 5th place overall but figured 5th to 10th was more realistic.

I think the embarrassing part was directed at the guys sitting at home. Only the OP can clear that up.

Everyone agrees that AP, RJ and Craig deserve respect for representing the USA.

Just have to start living with the fact that the usa is no longer the leader in the world at most things. Probably 20-50th in education, 50th plus in life expectancy and worse in quality of life. Our schools are a real mess, and even when you walk on the streets in the usa you can immediately notice how filthy it is compared to europe. Truth be told america has a lot of soul searching to do and the disappointment at mxon is just ripple effects of a sad and decayed culture
