Only $10 for all 2026 SX, MX, and SMX series.
I think you’re talking about the CMC Golden State Nationals back in the day. 👍
Lets see, Hunter won both the SX and MX champion ship, yet Deegan is the best rider, due to a 3 round series? Thats a very "unqiue" perspective.......
Are you F`ng kidding me, Kid? thats the wrong finger for Phil!

The best thing? We lost a National and we have 3 more races at the end of an already long meat grinder of a season. Let's see how many guys step up for the MXdN from here out after having all these extra races. It's great because of the money for these guys no doubt. I saw Marchbanks got $120K. Good for him! These guys aren't Terminators though. They can't just race indefinitely and not wear down
Do I think the SMX champ makes you the best rider all year round? No. But I can't help but compare it to what they're going for, more of a football/superbowl vibe. Can a team have an average season, squeak into the playoffs, and rise to the occasion when it matters most after an average season even if a team that won every single regular season game flubbed it last second?
Of course nobody sees it that way right now, but with time it'll carry more and more weight if it sticks.
There are two premier championships in the USA. SX and MX. Factories pay their riders huge bonuses for race wins and for the Championship in these two series.
The SMX thing is a little cherry on top at the end of the outdoor season for us race fans and it is a opportunity for riders to make some good money.
We saw big checks paid out, a big ass trophy and a blue #1 plate given to each class winner but it remains a stand alone playoff Championship and takes nothing away from the SX and MX champions.
NBC signed a 5 yr deal to put up the cash for the SMX playoffs. Be happy folks...be happy. I consider this a positive for all fans and riders.
Hey, we even got Prado eye-balling the US again.
Until the points from SX and MX account for points in the SMX, or the SMX becomes more than (3) races. It won’t carry more weight. Just like someone said earlier, it’s just a 3 race dash for cash series.
Yeah let’s not get too excited. Deegan podiumed 3/10 SX races with no wins; 9/22 moto podiums in MX with 1 overall; and his SMX moto scores were 1-5-3-3-5-2 with 1/3 overalls.
If anything his biggest feature this year was his consistency.
You could say the same about any sport with a playoff series.
Jett is crowned 450 Supercross/Motocross Playoff Champion without ever racing a 450SX.
Roczen was almost crowned Supercross/Motocross Playoff Champion having only raced 1 450 Motocross Race.
If you can become Champion by only racing one side of a "combined championship", its a bogus title. It will never be the premier title until you're required to race both series instead of just playing with points. Monster Cup V2.0
I believe there is a rule where if you win either an SX or an MX race, you still get into SMX regardless if you don’t compete in one of the series’. Maybe they should change it so you have to race at least one race in both series in their perspective class to qualify.
This is pretty much where I’m coming from.
SMX seems more about the money then it is about crowning a champion, and I think thats OK, both sx and mx crown a season champion. A big money race at the end of the season also means the riders will push harder for it, and thats a good way to grow the sport.
I am a little surprised that they waited until Friday to release the SX and MX schedules, they could have really pushed ticket sales all through out the SMX playoffs, its a missed opportunity in my opinion.
It would be cool if they could run the SMX after the GP's and invite the top 5 of both 250 & 450 from Europe. However, that would mess up MXDN.
When everyone makes fun of World Supercross for having a 2 or 3 round series..... "How can it be a real championship when it's only two/three rounds bla bla bla" but oh wait Stupidmotocross is a three round series............
When I saw Deegan and Lawrence getting very emotional about their wins in SMX I couldn't help but think of the people trash-talking this championship. It apparently means something to those guys. Together with the shitting on Triumph I have reached the conclusion that a lot of moto fans hate anything that is new.
SMX gave us more racing, some very good racing and it was exciting watching riders compete for a million bucks. It looked like a good crowd for LA Coliseum (for this day and age). What's not to like?
Pit Row
I think the lesson learned here is that for our sport to really seem legit the purses need to grow exponentially and the whole system/format needs a reboot. I've been into MX since the mid seventies and I am every bit as nostalgic as any moto fan in existence but it is time for some change imho.
Imagine designing a format/series with big big bucks in the purses that makes most of the MXGP guys want to race here. We all get massively worked up over MXON for our own selfish reasons but in reality it has become an expensive pain in the ass for the most part with the only reward for the riders commitment being the trophy and prestige. All the money seems to go into the pocket of the promoter. Hell, how about they revolutionize that race by actually putting up some serious dough.
To anyone griping about Jett being the SMX champion without racing SX I have to ask, who won the most point-paying 450 races this year?
Your point is well taken and the way to address it is to set a minimum of times you must race each discipline otherwise you don't get in. Another thing I think they should do is guarantee a spot in the playoff if you win an overall and make the minimum number of races whatever that number should be. There are a ton of ways they can revolutionize things going forward now that this first step of getting the whole sport under basically one umbrella has taken place!
I was excited for the prospect of 3 more races. Then Charlotte came and I thought that track was a joke and didn't lead to much passing. Then came Chicago, I thought, yes more outdorsy should be great racing. And it ends up being a track that was fast without a lot of passing. So I thought great LA back to where it began, and..... it turns out not a lot of passing not much to separate the field and to dependent on the start. Congratulations to Jett and Hayden, but something needs to change. And no I don't have the answers. At the end of the day I got to watch 3 more races, so that's good. And for the love of God get rid of Will, she babbles none stop and adds nothing but run on sentences.
WSX....how can it be a true world championship when it has only one world class rider....I don't give a shit what they call it SMX exceeded all expectations with great tracks that kept the teams and riders guessing on setup gave us great close racing and paid riders what they promised....and yet there are some that are hung up on a name...go figure...
It was fun to watch. And if they make it harder to get into (points wise), it may make more riders race both series. Or at least race more outdoors to get enough points. Not sure how long the money will be there but hope this continues.
It gives us more racing, and some very entertaining racing too! I enjoyed the shit out of it. But it's a three event format with the scoring differences to provide just that... great racing and entertainment. Not the best athlete over the series. The double and triple points negate from that aspect of it...
If Jordan Smith had won, would be we be calling him the best overall 250 rider 2023? Same for Kenny, who didn't race most of the outdoors? Huge Kenny fan, and was cheering for him. But tough to call him the best overall rider in 2023 if he had won. I am sure the best overall rider will win it some years, others not.
Hunter beat Deegan twice, in Championships this year and Deegan is the best overall? .Also a Deegan fan... but tough to call him the best in 2023.
I enjoyed it and hope we have the same format and series next year.... it provides great racing and entertainment value.
I have an idea. Let's cut out 6 Supercross rounds so that SX and MX are equal, and then run 9 SMX rounds. The total number of races would be the same, and they could still do the double/triple points thing at the end of the season. However, there would be enough opportunity to call the "Grand" title a true, full championship.
So by that logic Jett wouldn’t qualify for 250’s either. It would effectively stop riders who want to switch classes during the year.
So they just doubled the payout for the elite plus bumped up the lower level riders significantly. Seems like this is great for the sport, no? Seems to me a series with the best payout would be the best series long term. Not trying to argue really, just saying I really like what this has turned into and love that lower level riders were getting significantly better money.
Anything that pays the tenth thru twentieth place riders decent money is OK in my book !
