My position all along has been that the teams money issues have been an excuse and if the AMA and fans raised enough money to cover the expenses you still wouldn't see Kawi and would only see Star depending on Bobby's mood at the time...to keep this from happening in the future the AMA has to do the following:

They have to set a deadline no later than the end of SX for teams to commit to sending at least one rider from their team

They need to create a way to raise money (more than just a golf tournament) to offset the costs to the teams...FFS if Pulp can raise $140k for a privateer challenge through a bike raffle we can certainly raise enough to off-set the costs for MXDN

I hate to say but replace RD with a manager that is not connected to any team or any current team manager or any team ambassadors.....Jeremy Albrecht fits this bill perfectly.

I’ve been to the US many times.  I don’t hate Americans (or anyone else).

What I don’t have time for is attitudes like “we can’t go unless we’re going to win”, “if I go I need a full entourage of support with me”, “it needs to be worth my while financially”, “I couldn’t possibly compete on anything less than a full factory bike”.

It shows a complete lack of humility and total disrespect for other riders.

Last I saw there are over 130 riders entered which means over 40 countries.  The vast majority of those, while they may call themselves professional, won’t make enough money to support themselves as racers.  They will have begged, borrowed and used whatever means necessary to get to France and organise a bike to race.  Meanwhile the wealthiest and best supported racers in the world are making excuses why they can’t go.

Now it’s certainly every individual’s right to make their own choices.  However sometimes decisions have consequences and in this case the outrage is well justified against those who are claiming it’s too hard for the above reasons.

There are legitimate reasons like personal circumstances, contractual issues etc.  I get those.

But man, someone like Chase Sexton, just to pick a random example, would build his esteem no end in my eyes (and I suspect many others) if he said “screw it, if I can’t get full factory support just pick me anyway.  I’ll organise some suspension and a bike and I’ll meet you at Ernee”.

Well said; it's interesting that some of most patriotic Americans are those that have immigrated here.  Seems like this attitude of entitlement has been seeping into our popular culture, and with it a complete disregard for how blessed and fortunate people are with the opportunities given.  A little humility and willingness to put in effort for something bigger than the individual would be a nice change.

That said, I still don't understand or endorse the hate for riders or teams (that is reserved for Guiseppe Luongo and his band of crooks).

As a future employer they can certainly let their wishes known, can't they?

I think that would be great to be funded by the people.  But what is the true cost.

I am no expert but Travel for three riders and teams, bikes, tools, lodging, getting the rigs there (assuming they would borrow from MXGP teams) but pay for gas and drivers, meals/snacks/beverages, and other costs I am sure I am missing I think it is north of $700K and most likely more.  We would need more than just us fans to chip in some cash.  But - could put a company in a great position to be seen.

And is there any money from the AMA?

I am a huge RD fan, but i really like your idea of Jeremy Albrecht and think he would be great.

I think that $700k is extremely high and everything could easily be done for $200k. they have to decide who is essential to the teams and who is not and pay for only those people. Like I said the key is to know what teams will allow their riders to go way before the end of August...just think of the time and effort that could have been saved by Mike Pelletier and team if they knew that Star wasn't going to let their riders go by the end of May....Why Team USA is on their heels reacting just before the MXDN instead of looking forward and being proactive. Hopefully they will learn from this moving forward.

Unbelievable... big dollar contracts, endless podcasts and loud mouth youtube channels. First over hyping the USA AMA Mickey Mouse series and now duck away when it's about the world wide pride. Come on you soft boiled eggs and I might cheer you on. Respect to Zach Osborne for the effort.

Seems very odd now, almost unbelievable, that for years- the riders were announced and bikes displayed, in July, at Red Bud. Heads should roll, this is absolute lunacy that it’s mid-September and we don’t have our shit together.  I’m like all flabbergasted whatever, what a shit-show. RV, RJ, RC, Sir Jonny O, Mr. Bailey and Mr. Ferry are likely furious. And disappointed. As are we. EFBCA031-3B62-404D-A69E-04255C5F945E

I'm probably naif, but I don't understand the need to test for weeks at super pro level.

When you have all the best tech and the best mechanics at your disposal, you should be able to nail the bike in a few days on it.

If not, it means you will never and you are just building excuses.

So, jump on your fresh new bike, use the settings your team already know very well and race the MXdN!

Along those lines.... what are those riders doing when they're testing and trying to find the setup....? Riding! Yeah they're not going full moto at 100%, but they also aren't out there going at 20% and rolling jumps. What kind of setup would that find you? People talk about testing like it's this big mystery and it's just riding for the riders. I'd take chase sexton 90% comfortable and setup over nearly everyone.

All attending countries need to contribute to a purse and pay for team riders expenses at the very least.

The simple fact that isn't standard is embarrassing for an international proposed competition event.

This is pocket change.

Again, if you want an event that brings the best to compete you better put out some money for them to show in todays world.

Putting your flag in the ground doesn’t really mean much anymore when the best are watching from home.

Note: Notice where I’m saying the flaw is. 🙃

A small fraction of the SMX payouts would suffice to send a three rider team.  If it really does cost $50k each or thereabouts, $150K is only 3% of $5m payout purse.

I agree there is so many things that can be done and we need to stop treating the MXDN as an afterthought.

Where do you propose that tiny MX nations get money toward a purse from?

There’s some truly asinine ideas being thrown around.  So the riders from the wealthiest countries should demand appearance money?  I’d tell them to pound sand.

I agree with most everyone here, this is so stupid. If it really is about the money, there are so many ways to make this work. A collection cup at each round of SX and MX would more than cover it. Work with the beer vendors at the nationals and see if they would kick in $0.10 per beer. Shit, for that matter, get a group of volunteers to collect all the fuckin beer cans at the nationals. Between Red Bud and Washougal, we could probably get the whole budget paid for. This is a stupid problem, so I guess we have to fix it with stupid solutions.

If only $1.00 of every SX/MX ticket sold was earmarked for MXdN team funding...I'm pretty sure we could eliminate cost as a factor.

While money is presumably part of their calculation, the main reason is they want to prove themselves the best in the world by competing in the premier supercross and motocross series. MXGP is premier also but if you race that you can't race supercross.

If we did that for 1 season, it would probably cover the MXDN budget for 5 years.

31 races per year, figure a conservative avg of 20k spectators per event, that's $620k

Take a dollar out of this fee.  (No idea why it's upsidedown or how to fix it).IMG 20230913 164929 004

There’s some truly asinine ideas being thrown around.  So the riders from the wealthiest countries should demand appearance money?  I’d tell them to pound sand.

Uh, yeah. A team that gets there on 70k contributing to a team that needs 700k to get there? Highly laughable.

If only $1.00 of every SX/MX ticket sold was earmarked for MXdN team funding...I'm pretty sure we could eliminate cost as a factor.

31 races per year, figure a conservative avg of 20k spectators per event, that's $620k

Well...from what I'm reading here...our boys like to roll large so $750k might be enough...per year.

It doesn't sound like that much if you say it real fast.Woohoo
