Statement Regarding Rumors and Current Condition of 2023 World Supercross Series

To all those bemoaning the loss of income for the riders.... it was never there.... it was never real..... this was always going to be the outcome and they got duped. How many times are people going to fall for this in this sport? Would love to know how much money has actually made its way into Kenny's bank account. You think it's more or less than he would have made consistently being on the podium this summer?

This seems awfully similar to the demise of the WSX series that was attempted in the early 90's. Does anyone remember that, or am I imagining it? 

Man the success rate for Supercross outside of the US series, Paris, Geneva and Australia is near zero.  Even Summercross and the McGrath Invitational were a bust.  It's kind of amazing to be honest given the popularity of the US series. 

I admire their effort (except for Vancouver; after being there with RC and Reed in '05 with about 3,500 other people that was just a dumb round to plan).

Did WSX release anything else about the series? Alot of hype for the start of SMX right now, not much for second round of WSX.

Due to budgetary cutbacks, the program has changed.

Is it the former third, the former fourth, the former fifth or the former sixth? 

The only thing that was clear to me in that video was if ML ever needed to lose a few lbs real quick, he just needs to shave his arms. 

Are you talking about the JAM sports and FIM SX stuff?  That was different, in a way since it and the AMA series ended up merging and that was why the US supercross series had the FIM involved and a separate world championship with the canadian rounds for a while .   I doubt they would end up merging again.  I can not remember exactly why they merged the 2 back then, maybe it was a money thing like  WSX.  I was hoping that WSX would keep growing and it sounded like  great concept. Hopefully they can figure it out.  It helped make the US series payouts better and the SMX races  are an interesting addition that may have never happened.   

This situation (for some of the racers) reminds me of the guy who tells his boss to F-off because he thinks he’s won the lottery, only to find out it was last week’s ticket and have to go back to work…

Has SX Global shared their "significant news soon regarding the 2023 racing schedule" yet?

No, and the Canadian round is likely cancelled. 

Our series was supposed to have a race on the same day, and it's no longer listed on the schedule.

WSX should really consider changing their model so they schedule their races totally in the US off season

You would think with the next round being four weeks from tomorrow they would need to figure something out soon right?

Yup… literally everyone could see this. If they had their races at a time when nobody else was racing then they’re going to get everybody watching because it’s the only racing on. Trying to compete when 2 other series are racing at the same time makes no sense, if somebody tried to watch the entire ama races, mxgp, and then wsx it would take the entire weekend to watch, so ppl had to choose and they’re going to choose the one they already watch. 
 

On top of that when they had the off season rounds tons of top guys showed up.  You need big names to get ppl interested. Racing in the off season solves the 2 biggest problems, not competing against other races, and having top talent racing. If these races were the end of October to the end of December you’d have no other racing to watch but this, and it would have the big name guys so everybody would watch. 

You say literally everyone but when I mentioned this last year when the series schedule was announced, I was BASHED. Someone even said something of the line of “ I can tell your from USA and Not wanting a competing series”. I said I’d love a series in the off-season but was also bashed for that and told it could work. Some of those same people(not implying you) are saying how they knew the series would fail. 

FIM/WSX FAILING BUSINESS MODEL (former racer perspective)

-Split from AMA/Feld Entertainment

-Create a directly competing supercross series to rival the AMA Supercross series out of spite

-Call it the sole "World Supercross” championship because FIM says they are the only ones who can self-proclaim “World” status on championships

-Make a schedule that directly competes against the timelines of YOUR OWN MXGP Championship, AND the AMA Motocross Championship

-Hype the venues before you even have funding or infrastructure to run the events

-Claim highest purse payout in SX History, without having any top riders lined up for the series

-Make a Pilot Series of 5 Rounds to get the hype started for the next year’s official series

-Pay 2 top riders $250K each per race they attend

-Cancel rounds 3-5, after the first round is held, due to no funds, low attendance/viewings, and investors backing out

-Crown a “wOrLd cHaMpIoN” after only 2 races

-Paid out $750K for 2 top riders over 2 rounds:

                            -Roczen attended 2 rounds costing FIM/WSX $500k

                            -Tomac only attended the first round costing FIM/WSX $250K

-Claim it will be better in 2023

-Announce the series will be 6 rounds starting in July 2023

-Use the same business plan you used for the failed Pilot Series in ‘22

-Hype up the defending “wOrLd cHaMpIoN” will attend the series

-Cancel Round 2 before Round 1 even starts

-Run Round 1 with less fan attendance, less views, less top riders, and much less hype for the series than expected

-Put schedule on hold for further evaluation, but with the intent to still run races on existing dates

-Claim you’ve found more funding to hold races

-Hold a press release to tell fans they’ve had to cancel some rounds and replace them with different venues, but we won’t say what those are just yet

-Be very vague in the Press Release about what is actually happening

If WSX does go under do you think SMX continues to have the elevated rider pay? SMX would have no competition for the riders to races their series. I know SMX says this massive bump in rider payouts were in their plans all along but really?

And that's assuming they don't also watch F1, MotoGP, NASCAR, IndyCar, LeMans, etc.  As much as I enjoy it when I watch, I don't even have time for MXGP often enough to justify the subscription. 

Singapore is 4 weeks away ?  Have they booked the teams booked airfares for this round ?
