Ironman Track Underrated

Am I the only one who thinks Ironman is top 3 for outdoor tracks? I wish they could find a way to make it a more prevalent race because it is too good to be lost when titles are basically decided. Obviously schedule changed this year etc. just hoping in the future it can find a new time slot.

I was trying to explain this to my chick earlier. It is so underrated in that aspect. The dirt looks the best out of the series IMO and all the jumps look so damn fun. That track makes me excited to go riding tomorrow just looking at it.

It's a great track  . Love to see a MXdN there but at the same time I wouldn't want them to risk losing  their ass dealing with luongo

I went in 2020. Awesome track!

Besides the great track layout/conditions, the facility itself seems awesome. Paved pit areas ftw!

I might be in the minority but I thought the best layout of the track was 2015-2016. The new one is pretty cool but that one was more interesting IMO

Great elevation changes and dirt.  They need to put some sections back in to increase the lap times back to the 2:30 range.
I know it was shortened for TV but running into lappers 10 minutes into a moto sucks.

When it doesn't rain it's one of the best tracks on the series for sure. Always seems to produce good racing.

Riden this track a few times and its one of my favorites. However, after a big rain it has some of the gnarliest, deepest ruts I have ever seen!

It does look like a track that would be fun to ride for the average Joe, but man that jump over they do just before going under the covered bridge, freaks me out every lap.
No mere mortal does that without seeing God.

My personal opinion for top five track rankings, US only.

1. Red Bud

2. Spring Creek

3. Thunder Valley

4. Budds Creek

5. Glen Helen (yeah I know I know, I’m still salty it’s not there)

Ironman definitely could be 6.

I think the reason it's "underrated" is because of the in-person spectator aspect isn't tyhat great. This track (if it isn't a mudder) always produces great racing. James was onto something when he mentioned how wide every section of the track is. Absolutely one of the best tracks on our circuit.

I mentioned in the race thread that this track keeps moving up my list of favorites. Every section looks awesome. That back straight is wild. Honestly I’m probably putting it number 2 behind Millville.

Awesome track but 1:46 is a bit short of a lap time.

It's a fantastic track, but yes, it was even better back then. Losing 30+ seconds of track is a shame, but no different from red bud back in 08' when we went for the first time. There was a lot more track (2:30 ish lap times or thereabouts) and it just felt massive and a true test. But times change and the TV situation obviously is the culprit  even though the true fan in me says F that and deal with it to have an incredible world class track. Maybe cut out some of the worthless pre gate drop segments no one cares about and gain back the extra two minutes it takes after the 30 min mark. Still, Ironman is awesome and should host an mxdn someday.

I've been fortunate to have attended all the venues including Glen Helen and agree that Iron Man is one of the best.

Great layout with awesome jumps and elevation changes complimented with good dirt. There is plenty of shade for the spectators and easy viewing of most of the circuit wherever you choose to sit.

The pits are effing awesome and I know that all the mechanics and crews love it.

Crawfordsville and the Montgomery County is absolutely stunning.

The only good thing about Glen Helen is the track itself. I dont care much for the rest.

As a non-american, Ironman is a clear no1 for me.

I like the layout, the trees around the track and the dirt looks awsome.

I think that red bud get a lot of hype for free in US just for the 4th july thing.

but as someone else said, ironman makes me want to go riding.

I was going to post this. WHY did they get rid of the massive uphill triple? They used to jump up on top of the hill, turn right and jump back down, then turn around and triple back up the hill. Now when they jump down the hill they just hit a few turns on flat ground before linking back up with the track as it was. I still love the track and its one of my favorites, but the giant hill is the coolest obstacle there. Idk why they got rid of the best jump on the track.

Heres a video shot right next to the old triple of the Jeffrey Herlings race for anyone who forgot what the track used to look like.

As another non-American and never having been there, for what it’s worth I agree on Redbud being overrated. I much prefer the look of Millville. Ironman running a close second for me.
