Why don’t the OEM’s bring back 250 2T?

Why don’t the bike manufacturers bring back 250 two strokes? I heard something about all of the tooling being lost in a natural disaster? Any truth to that?

They would really only need to tool up the engines and electronics. They could just slap it in their 250F chassis and tweak the shim stacks and spring rates.

It doesn’t appear Yamaha or KTM is having trouble selling their 250 two strokes.

And I’m not even talking about for pro racing, I mean just for fun. I would LOVE a modern CR250.

I bet Suzuki would sell more RM250’s than RMZ450’s and RMZ250’s combined

They don't bring em back because they're making more money off 4-strokes in every way.

Damn shame.   Thank goodness for Yamaha.

I bought a new Sea Doo Switch "pontoon" and the thing has more stickers on it about Emissions than it does about performance.

You know... cause the climate and shit.

Honda will release a new CR, but you'll need to wait until 2028/29...

I remember sitting on a new 05 cr250 at a dealer. It felt like custom works bike. Upgrade the brakes , a tiny bit of porting & it will handle any 24. Surrat proved a standard bore cr250 can out run a highly modified 300.  I don’t hv much time but I,ve been watching 250 pro am races. A 250 2-st can race the 250 class. I didn’t know that. Some 2-st Ktm riders r anililating  the 4-st,s.

because not enough people buy the brands that sell them now, for the ones that dont to feel like they need to market share,

It's kind of like asking why they wouldn't bring back their 450 bikes from 20 years ago. They already have something that is much faster, much easier to ride, and they can sell them for more money.

Rather see every manufacturer making a 350

Because it takes too much skill to race and go fast on 2strokes.

Support the brands that make them.

Kawi, Honda and Suzuki are the only three brands right now that don't make a 250 two stroke. Yamaha, KTM, Husky, GasGas, & Beta all make one.

You have any facts to back that up? Keefer said Yamaha sells all their 2 strokes

Maybe because the 125 class is the most popular.  The Millville Viking clash  gets 34, doublin Gap in Pa. Has a 4k 125 purse for the sept 8-10 pro am.  Muddy creek 30k purse 2-st is pretty much 250,s tho.  I heard Matty B say there’s a lot of big money races in the fall.  He’s an animal at muddy creek. Anyone know how to find the big races ?

they don't bring them back because every potential 2 stroke sale takes away from a potential 4 stroke sale.

Nope. Let's keep the romanticism alive for a 15 year old plus bike built  by a brand that hates 2 strokes. Lots of 250 2 strokes out there, sometimes people have to look past the tip of their nose. But yeah, 2 stroke superiority piqued in 2007 with Honda. People that run crap like that are fans, but don't support 2 strokes since it is NLA bikes. Flame away.

Bingo.   Honda, doesnt care. Not sure why people think they do by keeping old cr 2 strokes instead of supporting brands that sell them.

No but I know it’s true from Dealers they sell way more 250 4t , Australia used to publish their results but have not done in a few years. Every brand sold more 4 strokes mx bikes than 2t

Yamaha may sell every yz250 they make , but they make way more four strokes

Honda is a 100% 4 stroke brand, if you guys didn't know.   Even their smallest Brush Cutters (garden Equipment) is now 4 stroke.  Forget them making 2 stroke anything.   Kawasaki's focus is clearly not in dirt, accounting for less than 1% of brand sales.  Support the brands that make 2 strokes, there's loads of options, Don't forget TM, and also Fantic for the Europeans!  If you buy, you support the continuation of these bikes, till the dictator governments stop us.

Repeating what others have already said but, stop being so brand loyal. Support the OEMs that still build them. You love Honda and bleed red? So what? They will never build the bike you are waiting for.

It has nothing to do with brand loyalty. Honda 2-st r built for reliability & the only make to think about rider economics everything is where it should be. I hated the 02 when it came out. Until 125 jr club members dad told me he rides Every day but mon. With very little maintenance. What did pros say 1 Honda for 4 rm,s.  Blue collar folks don’t hv 7-8k laying around to buy 1 of the 3 Ktm,s.  I,m still in Ny. Can’t get lded. A few months ago ovr 100k welders & machinist lost there jobs. And there’s not that many people in up state Ny.  Honda had higher performance engines & better suspension but the parts didn’t pass there endurance testing. Mid 90,s 250,s had a linkage that soaked everything up amazing great. But it left tire marks on the fender, so it was not used. A member on here has a crazy amount of hrs like 800 on his 07 cr125. I,m telling ya there built like no other.
