An interesting topic...

Obviously I understand that this sport isn't Nascar and the reach of marketing $ has a ceiling. BUT, what brands do you think SHOULD be involved in some of the factory teams?? Some of these have come and gone, or tried and failed...

I've always thought Caterpiller and Bobcat would be cool sponsors of a team individually. After all, literally every machine is one of these or New Holland on the tracks...

What other companies do you think should be here if Money/marketing weren't the gateway?

While there are a lot of good ideas in here.. it’s mostly wishful thinking.

We can present insane numbers, proven case studies with bananas ROI, have super popular athletes with a rabidly loyal fan base.

If the CEO, CMO or brand director does not personally enjoy motorsports - it just isn’t going to happen. It’s an enthusiast sport, and even with hard data someone at any given company must be an enthusiast.

How many motocross fans are executive level officers at companies with marketing budget? Few. Of them, how many take their dollar to Nascar? Most. It leaves us with crumbs.

I've always thought a Home Depot KTM team would work nicely.  Colors are already there, and they can rotate various tool, appliance, etc mfgs through the system.

2010-Honda-CRF250RALLSTATE Med resI Found a few of them. I've had drives fail and  was not supposed to share any of these images with anybody back then.I might have the rigs and Team shirts that were done for some of the brands who showed more interest  and some of the other bikes on a DVD or CD someplace. I think its been long enough now, and as far as I know the team has not been racing for a while now.  I also did a Busch Light, iPhone,iPod, 5 Gum, Dunkin Donuts, and probable others. The Team owner was a good marketing guy with some big dreams. He ended up inventing an organic mosquito spray and was focused on that last I saw.  When I made these , I used the company websites and advertising   to put together a mock up that went along with their current  advertising look. Mixed in with some of the designs the team had run on the bikes.  2010-Honda-CRF250Rmarine tan32010-Honda-CRF250Rmarine tanlowres2010-Honda-CRF250RmarinepsdCike Honda redNapster copysunoco kx 250 copyNokia kx 450 copy 2

Nice looking mock-ups but here’s the problem:

I’m looking on my phone and unless I stop and zoom in I can’t read the logo/brand on half of those.  And even if I can, when the rider is on the bike a large chunk of the shroud is covered anyway.

At TV viewing distances it’s impossible.

I think the answer is to cycle the size of the stickers from week to week or for 2 or three races at a time.

So, WD-40 is prominent for 3 weeks, while sponsor B is normal sized, then reverse it. Everyone gets better exposure.

Then part of each deal is to also promote sponsors on social media.  It should be part of the contract.

Logo placement on the bikes ,gear and helmets  and sizing were part of the contract with that team.    They were going for all or nothing at one point.  They wanted 1 big outside industry sponsor so they could just buy whatever products they needed to put on the bike and not bleed the industry dry.  They had  the sample mock up I made ( that was brand specific on a bike, team shirt and Hauler that would sometimes be 100% that brand , or sometimes include other brands that had committed for to the team ), along with a diagram with blocks in different sizes and colors showing where and how big a logo would be for X amount.  At that time it was logo placement on the bikes, Hauler and team clothing .

I like the idea of rotating logo placement and size to get noticed. People get used to seeing a logo in a certain spot and almost stop seeing it.  There are a lot of companies that are very stuck on where they want their logos. And there are teams already doing the logo rotation's. I can not remember if they were from the same season or not, but the Twisted Tea team has run a Twisted Tea themed helmet, WD 40 themed helmet and then a more co branded helmet.  I'm sure there have been studies done that have data showing how much more effective it may be to do that. That team I did the renders for had a lot of data even back then, now there is so much more available that is even more accurate.

For us our sponsorship season for excepting race resumes the next year is 3 months from after Lorettas to Halloween. I started paid advertising about sending resumes right before the end of Lorettas. Want to guess how many I have received? 1

Hate to say this but how many sponsors have been brought in by teams or riders then plucked away by Feld or MXSports?

May I ask what exactly your sponsorship program actually consists of? And what you expect from your sponsored riders?

Im a TREK fanboy- all my bicycles are TREK, and now when Im going grocery shopping, I feel like I want to shop at Lidl rather than elsewhere. Simply to show appreciation. However I dont know how my message would get to the top brass that im doing it because they're sponsoring my favourite cycle team?!

Good question!

What are we looking for in resumes requesting our 2024 sponsorship?

#1 understand that sponsored riders are representatives of our product and brand name in their local area.

We want to see riders with some race results. Local racing is fine but the Bigger the races the better our sponsorship offer will be. You get back what you supply to us in your race resume.

Here are some of my pet peeves

In your Race Resume ….. Include your basic contact information. Name, Address, Phone number, Email ….. it is shocking how many resumes that I receive and have to chase after them just to get this basic information! The more I have to chase the less you get.

If your request for sponsorship is just an email with ……. Hi I am Bob, I ride a dirt bike and I want free shit. You wont get shit.

What do we expect for sponsorship? This is straight for our sponsorship contract……

In regards to the return on a tiny logo that no one notices, most of it comes from the right to associate with sponsored athlete/team with the sponsor's own marketing strategy. Being able to throw up together an ad or post with Rider X holding a trophy over his head with your own creative messaging thrown in is quite valuable.

Question for everyone reacting to this topic:

Do you think there is ROI to be achieved by sponsoring in MX?

As in i have this product or service and if i sponsor (with free products and/or $) some teams and riders in AMA or GP's i believe this will lead to more sales that cover the costs of sponsorship and more?

I don't know how they would measure the ROI unless there is some kind of discount code or something.  I will say that I ONLY buy Method wheels since they sponsor riders in MX/SX.  I try to be very brand loyal to companies that sponsor MX/SX.

I think McDonald's should sponsor some teams. Seems like there's usually a lot of fatties at any given supercross race

Whatever poor team gets the new sponsor - it will just be stolen by Feld 2 years later
