It's such a KTM ripoff, I bet the bore and stroke are within 10% of the KTM's. That's all the proof I need.

I apologize in advance I haven't been keeping up much lately. After reading the Triumph thread my understanding is.....

Triumph has made the commitment to invest millions of dollas into bring a new bike into the sport that we all love

The frame looks like a Yamaha

The engine looks like a KTM

No one likes the way they are releasing it

Their marketing sucks

The bike is just a copy

Since when did the Vital community turn into a bunch of whiney little B****es?

Every brand is within 10% on bore and stroke!

KTM (81x48.5) and Yamaha (77x53.6) are the furthest apart with everyone else falling between their numbers.

This is fucking great, thank you! Confirmation that people who don’t have a clue what they’re talking about just like to moan for the sake of it. That’s all the proof I need.

You haven't seen the Stark Varg thread, have you? Makes this one look like positive reinforcement.

Triumph obviously has the know how to make an engine from scratch, at least a street bike engine. Something to keep in mind is with street bikes the engine life cycle is much longer closer to 5-10 years before an engine is completely redesigned and even then its usually slightly altered and then may be used in a new "budget" model for a few more years.

Triumph did exactly this with their new Trident. Took the 675cc triple that had been in their sportbike for 15 years. New cylinder, crank and cams etc. and the threw that motor that the R&D had been paid for 10 years ago into a new model and are able to sell it for $8,500 and its an awesome bike. So they are used to R&D cost being spread over 10+ years maybe a 3-4 year engine life cycle with a shit load of R&D cost atleast on the first generation was a hard pill to swallow.

Everyone wants some state of the art engine from scratch but also want the bike to be $10,000 and reliable and easy to get parts for but also have more horsepower than anything existing.

Do they? Triumph hasn’t built a racing engine in years. Don’t get me wrong, they surely know how to built a fast engine, but they have no experience design a state of the art, lightweight, downdraft, finger follower, high rpm, single cylinder engine. Their Moto2 engine is fast, but a pretty conventional street bike engine with a slipper clutch and an advanced engine management system. So maybe lots of people (including myself) had too high expectations.

Well they have done all of that especially with their speed triple motor that revised a couple years ago. This is not really unique to Triumph, most street bike engines are very advanced and have been for quite some time.

The new 1200 triple motor is all of what you mentioned, along with a bunch of other street engines from many manufactures.

Finger follower engine, 12,000 rpm redline, and high performance street bikes have been downdraft engines since when they were still carb fueled 20 years ago. Keep in mind this is all being done with 3 times the amount of cylinders and these engines in non racing consumer hands are expected to last 30k+ miles. so I don't think the lack of engineering is what drove them to use the KTM design, I think its more of a cost/time/consumer reputation thing.

I dont want to sound like I work for Triumph but I think there is a big disconnect from the dirt guys to the street guys and they dont realize how advanced streetbikes have been for 20 years.

Cool stuff! I mean it’s not a pure racing engine, but it’s nicely done.

However, that raises the question: why didn’t they do the development for the mx engine themselves?

Sorry, not sorry. This whole bike reeks of being a cover band. Letdown City. I guess once the whole bike is revealed, then possibly it'll be a mild curiosity since it says Triumph and comes in a different colour. Biggest blue balls ever.

It shows that you don’t have a clue if you think that such differences in bore and stroke don’t make much of a difference.

The Kawi and Sizuki engines in the picture originate from the time when they joined to design their first 250fs in the 2010s. Suzuki kept that design, while Kawi developed it much further and the engines they have now are quite different.

You’re wrong on this.

if anything, Kawasaki kept that design whilst Suzuki did their own thing.

I had a Pro-Cirvuit head on an 06 KXF, it didn’t fit the 07 RMZ.
whikst it continued to fit the KXF up until 2010 when they went EFI.

2006 was a new design for Kawasaki, for Suzuki it was a carry over of the 2004-2005 engine

Nope.
the 06 KXF & RMZ had the same motors.
the KXF went to an Aluminium frame that year though.

then in 07, Suzuki went Aluminium frsme and changed the engine. Whilst kawasaki continued on with the same engine.

Kawasaki made quite a few changes to the 06 motor. It was not the same as the Suzuki.

From arguing about an unreleased bike to now arguing about almost 20 year old engine designs. Never change vital, never change.

Kawasaki chassis. Suzuki engine. You can tell just by looking at them. Compare them to other models of the era.

They updated some internal parts for the 06 bike, but it was still the same basic design.

Had one the seized the intake cam at 5 hours.

You could swap engine and exhaust between the aluminum and steel frame bikes.

Same basis design.

I think we're agreeing here??? I'm not real sure what else to say. Kawi took the 05 motor and made some changes. Suzuki did not make any changes to the 05 motor.

Agreed!  In the 70's, my brother had a Hodaka.  I believe it was a 100 or 125.  It ran fine. When we tore it down, we discovered that it was running a Suzuki piston.

I'd put Triumph in a different situation in terms of just spitting out spec.

Might have missed it.. but how do they plan on racing this bike in sx this year? Thought they had to sell 500 units for it to be homologated ?
