Listen and understand. MX Sports might send out the checks but the tracks put up the purse money and that is on top of the fee they have to pay to MX Sports just to have the race. Plus the tracks own cost to do the race from equipment to porta potties to staff and other rentals for the race.
My opinion is cut back on repeater and girders at jumps except the finish. This year was turned upside down so things were different.
My own personal opinion is the show is the riders so cut entry fees.
TV on 1 week delay for local television so more people attended an event.
Lower ticket prices to make it more attractive for people to attend.
Open pits so riders can enjoy it like they are a part of the show(this means more security).
One thing I have always asked why is a track paying an outside party to hold an event when these tracks hold large events all year long and they manage it fine. Track gets increased profit and riders get increased purse.
Remember these are my opinions only and not that of anyone else. I am not speaking for anyone else.

I didn't get that he was saying "none", I got that he was saying cut back.

I personally prefer the cleaner look that the mx GPS have with strategically placed banners instead of solid repeaters all the way around the track, often on both sides.

Driving a couple thousand stakes, stapling repeater, and trimming stakes and the cost of fabricating, transporting and erecting those structures is probably substantial.

Go to any big weekend money race happening on the regional scene. You’ll find that the top guys there could top 30-20 a Moto in MX (SX is a different story), but choose not to even attempt it.

There are plenty of people who stay local/regional and haul ass making more money than they could traveling the nationals.

The riders chasing them are chasing their dream, which is awesome, but for everyone of those there are 5 just as fast riders who have bills to pay, no family help, etc and they are out there racing and claiming the low hanging fruit which often times pays much better than driving to a National.

I said it before, if you are employed by a team then you are paid to ride. Purse money should only go to non employed riders.

I've heard there's an annual rights fee of $100,000 that the national tracks have to pay as well as a small fraction of online ticket sales. This doesn't include all fees associated with the event promotion, advertising and marketing, facility prep, facility maintenance, security, sanitation, EMS, course flaggers, course watering staff, any other necessary staff, all tax, license, permits and other fees associated with the event, track prep, labor, materials, safety barriers, equipment, insurances, and probably a host of other fees. Can't imagine it's worth the time and money investment when you're pretty much left with the prestige of being a national track.

I've never seen the books of a track but I can't imagine they net much all said and done. There's got to be a better way so the financial responsibility is shared between the promoter and the track. If MX Sports doesn't have the money, they need to negotiate better deals with advertisers/tv networks. There's enough money that flows because of the existence of this sport and only a few are grabbing it. NBC (comcast) is probably the biggest taker of the $$$. $60 per online series subscription. Do the math Whistling not a penny goes to the riders/teams/tracks.

I think you are confusing us nationals and mxgp.

The Gp tracks are the ones paying absurd up front money. That is how they end up in Qatar and Indonesia.

You also don't realize that the nationals pay to be on tv and recoup some of that money selling ads. The coverage is basically an infomercial.

Moto is a niche sport, and there is not nearly the money flying around as some of you think.

Unless all the stars align perfectly some of the promoters are lucky to make money.

Thread starts out with something about the purse not changing for soooo many years....
Someone posted otherwise.
Then the usual “where does all the money go?!” & “They’re not doing it right!” & “There’s 40 guys getting MILLIONS OF DOLLARS; so, they don’t need the purse money!” & “The Promoters are THIEVES!” & “The Tracks have too many banners” & “the tracks are too groomed” &...well...

When will the racing start again?! Houston can’t happen soon enough.

How many NBC Sports Gold subscriptions do you think there are for a single series knowing there are fans all across the world?

I'm not being condescending here just want to have a conversation about this. I've had conversations with industry folk that I trust their experiences and I want to hear other opinions/experiences.

You don’t make make money racing outdoors if you aren’t on a factory team pretty much.
I have privateer friends that lineup for a few rounds, some scored points and some almost and it’s not worth it if you’re going to make money... lol
Supercross Prize money is a bit better but not crazy.
My friend was making every main in 250 SX East for his rookie year and he still had to pay for his boots.

I’m sorry your friend had to buy a pair of boots. Must have been traumatic. As a mechanic I only use tools I got for free to do my job also. Matter of principle.

The best part was "only the top 10 make money" Grinning

There's 20-24 riders in the 450 class on paying rides...we could potentially have a full gate of Facotry and Factory Supported riders.

Let's see...250s...

Red Bull KTM 1-2
TLD GasGas 1-2
HRC Honda 2
RStar Husky 3
PC Kawi 4
JGR 1
Star Yam 396
ML Honda 2
PH Honda 2

That's over 400 sponsored riders! Woohoo

Yes, I'm a smart ass.

I said “good” money! That’s why I said you need to be on a factory team to make good money outdoors, as those guys don’t count on the purse money to live. Early on the season when all factory guys are healthy for sure the top20 is full of factory/factory supported guys. But that change quickly as the season goes on, especially on the 450 class.
I don’t think Coty Schock (or other good privateers) made “good” money this year racing outdoors even though he made the top10 at the last round. I’m sure he is fortunate to be riding in the conditions that he is now as it’s an upgrade to him compared to his previous years as a full privateer.

I have a few Privateer friends that races SX/MX but the one that made almost every main in his rookie season is Curren Thurman. Super nice, polite and really want to progress. He doesn’t know many people in the industry as it was his first year doing SX so he had to talk to people to introduce himself to hopefully get more support in the future.
Fortunately he has Abby at AllSouth that helps him.

It's 2023 now. Those last bunch get any increase? 220 per moto is nothing in CA but gas, food, no real living. Prob pro motorcycling trying to recoup money lost from Covid. True privateers like Davis in avatar back in mid '90s end of '90s could keep going think 200 was total for 40th separated by 10 bucks increase per better placing, gas $1.50 at most, cheap eats at good places, Motel 6 like 30 or 40 bucks, etc.. The Nat'l off weekends where real money use to be made like Frozen Ocean SX/MX, Jolly Rogers NH, Wardy's track Illinois, etc.. Full gates with good Nat'l number riders. Those still even exist? No chance for true privateers especially from CA to chase a dream and stay above water. SX drive all night for CMC GSS or GFI Winter race for contingency that barely or don't exist at all now. I don't know who's local Pro, just Nat'l like Max, Mosiman's, Schwartz n Stilez in Bakersfield. NorCal thrived when BobbyM, Shultz, Magoo, etc; full gates all day long. Sport's changed to compounds and Baker's Factory with families that can afford what I bought in Bailey tapes, Jeff Spencer n Ake Jonsson books.. Just wondered about purses today n any money races on off weekends still? Peace.

Still hangin in there 32 seasons, a few less A class riders now but purse is still guaranteed and we have some good racing every other Sat night.  A bunch of Fair Races here in IL all summer long where many good riders can make a few bucks in the middle of the week.  Hell my kid has been doing that a bit last few years.

Be interesting to see how this new extra races will be received by the racers.  Spectators love the extra stuff.

Purse Per Moto:

So factory riders like Jett  who already are likely millionaires are taking purse money, when it could be better spent supporting privateers ?

I think you are confusing us nationals and mxgp.

The Gp tracks are the ones paying absurd up front money. That is how they end up in Qatar and Indonesia.

You also don't realize that the nationals pay to be on tv and recoup some of that money selling ads. The coverage is basically an infomercial.

Moto is a niche sport, and there is not nearly the money flying around as some of you think.

Unless all the stars align perfectly some of the promoters are lucky to make money.

I would be pretty certain the Coombs family does OK with what they make off the nationals.

I would be pretty certain the AMA gets a part of the nationals too. Thank God for them representing us, keeping tracks and trails open as our advocates, right?

AMA Pro Nationals are pretty much 100% payback for riders.
