Does anyone know if it is okay to do your 25mins @ 60hp, then pull off the track and plug the now flat battery into your charger straight away ?
Or would it be necessary to let the battery cool down first ?
I take it you don't own RC cars do you? You MUST let them cool down before you just try to charge a battery right away.
Thanks
No, I don't own RC cars.
So , not only is there a recharge time of 1-2 hours, you must add some cool down time for the battery as well ?
So, unless you buy a spare battery, you would be looking at 3 + hours between rides or races
I also seem to remember an 80hp option with these bikes, I wonder how much ride time that gives, if you only get 25 mins @ 60hp ?
The Moto verte test seems to be at 60hp, I wonder why stark didn't bring at least one 80hp bike
Here I’ll fix the problems.
Make a separate class for eMX.
Set the duration based on battery size or something similar and go have fun within those limits.
I mean it’s no different than changing the gas tank size.
And all the other can keep riding their gas bikes and have nothing to worry or complain about. 🤔🙃

I don't see anyone worrying or complaining
Just people commenting the pros & cons on an interesting subject.
Pointing out awkward facts isn't - worrying & complaining
Let them race in an open class against 450f's, if they finish they finish.
Interesting...

Bizzaro world? Watch closely at the track how many laps most guys are doing. It looks to me that half of the guys can’t do more than 4 laps at speed… they could buy an eMX with half the battery size of the Varg and wouldn’t have a problem.
Yes, but 1% of riders are national level pros, who can go flat out for 35 minutes!
I WANT THE FASTEST BIKE INNNNNTHEWORLLDDDDD!!!!!
As mentioned earlier, they did, and everyone but Arnaud Tonus found it to be too powerful and "almost unrideable".
I don't see "moto verte" like a hightly biased media. In their MX shootout (250 & 450) every year the first place could easily change. For example contrary to US, Italian or German bike magazine they placed this past 2 years Honda and husky at first place in the 250 category, and they do ranking for "pure performance bike" and "leasure rider". i Think they humbly try to guide you to shoose the best bike for you and not selling you a KTM or a Yamaha for example...
At this time i don't have any bike (shoulder issue), but for my future week end warrior riding style (hope so) , i can afford a bike with such a low autonomy. go to a track 3 hours of travel in total, i stay part of the day at the place and will do multiple 15" ride. I don't know for you but here in spain (and france) i don't see any mean to plug a charger at the track, and for sure will not bring a generator.
Which is good because ALL of their test riders had overheating problems as the day wore on, with the bikes going into security mode after only 3/4 laps...
"I mean it’s no different than changing the gas tank size. "
Can't remember spending 7000$ at IMS.
I freeride 90% of the time, tracks the other 10%. I wonder how long the battery would last in freeriding/jumping in the hills compared to a gas bike?
I do know that If you are telling me I have to turn down the power for it to last a single moto, I wouldn’t buy it. I’m not interested in making my life more difficult with all the little intricacies of this bike.
BTW, just as a reminder, that's what Stark's website says: "The 6.5kWh of the Stark VARG allows you to ride for up to 6 hours of easy trail riding or complete a full MXGP heat."
Don't know about the 6 hours of easy trail riding, let's say I have my doubts, but after that test, it seems clear there's no way to do a full MXGP moto (or heat, whatever that is).
Size of gas tank determines how long they can race correct?
So you get the analogy.
20min motos for eMX to start.
As battery tech keeps getting better then update race duration.
Who would be against a new class of MX and new class of MX bikes as options?
Don’t be a fool to think ePower isnt going to keep getting better.
Starks V1 will keep getting better with a V2 and so on.
Oh, I didn’t say moto verte is biased or anything! This is one of the oldest and most trustworthy magazines in Europe. I believe what they write about the Varg.
I do see problems at the track at first too, with no possibility to plug in or with the running of generators all the time. However I think this will change quickly. Track owners will upgrade their infrastructure and charge an additional fee for charging up your bike. They could even just have a big diesel generator. Charging a fleet of eMX bikes with it needs less fuel and make less noise in the pits than burning the fuel in bikes or small generators.
The big facilities in northern Italy, where I travel to in winter to ride, could probably provide plug-in points immediately.
Pit Row
Tracks can just run 100’s of extension cords through the pits!!!
I would wait for comment from someone who actually owns a bike vs someone who clearly has no clue what they're talking about yet feels the need to spew garbage consistently. Not only is the cell type completely different from a regular RC car, but we're talking about completely different layouts, capacities, and cooling systems.
When I rode it I did not have to let the battery cool down after a 20+ minute moto before plugging it in. I would imagine that the charger is likely intelligent enough feed the battery at an appropriate rate given its current temperature, but it remains to be seen if this is actually a realistic problem for the average rider. Based on my experience, it isn't.
How often are you realistically doing 30+ minute motos, and do you really think you're going to use all 60+hp? When I rode it setting the power to around 55 was plenty for me, that was easily comparable to a 450 and anything more than that just made the bike harder to ride and would tire me out quickly.
Eternal question: what is an "average rider" anyway?
That's not really true..with high quality lipo's high amp discharging with an icharger and discharge bank and then charging immediately right after to lower the IR of the battery is pretty common in 1/10 scale racing. Not the best thing for battery longevity but it's doable..
Well I'd like to claim I'm right. But I'm sure I'm not 100% correct. Since the new EV car batteries can just plug in without a cooldown period and supercharge back to 100% in 15 mins. I still think that's terrible on the battery and shortens the life dramatically. But I'm not a complete Expert on EV systems. I know enough, working at a car dealership, where I see way too many cars getting batteries swapped out for new ones. I like to research things if I don't know. But on the safe side I'd say let it cool down for at least 30 mins with a fan on it before charging it again. Discharging a battery is the biggest stress it goes through. If you try to charge it right after a big discharge, that's very bad as well and usually leads to the biggest battery failures or swelling of the cells. After enough times, the battery is junk and prone to be a fire hazard or explode.
Yes. You can do it, but its not safe and not good for battery life at all.
Yes it is a possibility....but apart for the noise of the bike itself does it make sense to charge an ebike with diesel generator ?
Yeah, why not? I want to ride the superior machine and that’s the one I have to charge. Doesn’t matter where the energy comes from.
I don’t know why everybody is bringing up environmental concerns with dirt biking. The most fuel is used to get to the track and back home. The few liters or kWh the bikes uses doesn’t really matter.
If you look from an environmental standpoint: It’s still more efficient to run a good diesel generator and charge an eMX than running an ICE bike. You could only improve the environmental footprint by charging it from green electricity.
Doesn't seem like they're moving dates back anymore. They've just started missing the dates instead.
Are they?
Again its also depending on your skill level and probably the terrain outside temps as well. If You run through a FULL tank in a 30 minute moto than You can go off the 25 minute runtime as a guide. But if You are an average rider, not running in deep soils. ( I am speculating that a deeper soil may impact runtime , so that may not be correct. I have not seen anything on Vargs in deep soils yet) You can likely expect much more time out of a charge. It might take and hour to charge from dead to full with the correct generator or outlet. 2 hours on the high side . But If You are NOT using a full charge every time You do not need to charge back to 100%. I think it was said that getting it to 80% is fast and that last 20% can be the part that makes it take a long time. Charging it 1 time from dead to 100% is considered a full charge cycle. And charging it from 0% to 25, or from 75% to 100 would only be 1/4 of a charge cycle and not impact the number of times you can recharge.
Average MX racing at the local levels around New England ,doing one class. You would have plenty of runtime and time to recharge if You are an average B rider or slower, or Vet rider. If You are a top level A rider or Pro , You might want to stick with a gas bike for hard motos. I'm glad that more info is coming out about these as more people get them and ride in different conditions.
